Glassbreakers: Champions of Moss News

Glassbreakers - Development Blog #4

[p]Snuggle up, Squad! It's your friendly neighborhood community manager, Kristen! Today, I am excited to reveal the second previously unrevealed Champion coming to Glassbreakers: Djain, the Gambler! To get to know our beloved Gambler better, I spoke with our talented writer, Shauna, and our design director, Chris Bourassa, to get a sense of who Djain is, their motivations, and what they bring to Glassbreakers.
[/p]
The Diary of Djain
[p]A smirk curls on Djain's lips as they slowly roll a set of dice between each finger. "You're in too deep," Djain says, "but I can make you an offer you simply can't refuse."[/p][p]Meet Djain: an immortal, silver-tongued devil who loves games of chance and Faustian bargains. You've never met them before. Not in Moss or any bedtime story you were told. Perhaps you heard of them in whispers—half-forgotten tales of a trickster who showed up when things have gone awry... or very, very interesting.[/p][p][/p][p]Djain is a Starthing, a mysterious, fairy-like being dwelling on the edge of myth and legend. If you played either Moss games, you may recall Aderyn, who gave players their first glimpse at Starthings. While Aderyn was bound by a curse and caught in a rather unique position, Djain feels little empathy or interest in the concerns of mere mortals. For Djain, the rules of life and death do not apply. After all, a mortal's lifespan is but a blink for Djain.[/p][p][/p]
The Devil You Don't Know
[p]When we set out to build the roster for Glassbreakers, we knew we wanted a wide spectrum of personalities, from the purest of hearts to the villainous. Djain is the villain you love to hate, or hate to love.[/p][p]Djain stands out narratively because they operate from a different frame of reference than any other Champions. While mortals are concerned about winning, losing, or surviving another day, Djain doesn't have the same existential weight that the awareness of mortality brings.[/p][p]Djain may also (👀) have some history with other Champions. Without spoiling too much, there are a few rare VO lines between Djain and Brel, hinting at a murky, complicated history. In a way, it feels as if Djain has always been behind the scenes, playing games and pulling at threads, and only now is stepping out from the shadows.[/p][p]We look forward to you finding the other narrative Easter-eggs sprinkled throughout. Let's just say... some games are never finished.[/p][p][/p]
The Making of a Trickster
[p]From the beginning, we wanted Djain to feel different. After all, they are a slick, silver-tongued immortal who uses their charm and the irresistible urge to gamble with chance to toy with their target. While we were casting Djain, we provided the voice actors with a cheat sheet—a mix of references that spoke to their chaotic, theatrical energy. Some of our favorites included The Devil from The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, the Grinch, Gambit from X-Men, and Two-Face from the DC Batman universe.[/p][p][/p][p]Through these reference points, we landed on who Djain is today: a devilish Starthing who can flip from silky to sinister in a heartbeat.[/p][p][/p]
Djain's Addiction
[p]While most Champions operate with careful planning, Djain leans into their lucky side. They are the master of their universe, creating and solving their problems exactly when and how they need it. A ranged Champion with plenty of utility, Djain is excellent at everything you could need. When luck is on Djain's side—when the stars truly align—the momentum of the fight shifts and suddenly, they're ahead of the game. And when it's not? Well, that's when a true gambler shows how good they really are.[/p][p]Djain isn't for everyone, but their unpredictability makes them interesting to play if you thrive in that environment. If you're a player who prefers control, predictability, and an airtight strategy, Djain might test your patience. However, if you thrive in chaos, love thinking on your feet, and prefer high-risk/high-reward moments, Djain may be perfect for you.[/p][p]Each of Djain's three outcomes are powerful in the right hands, and mastering them means not just hoping for the best, but knowing exactly what to do when things are not going your way. The best Djain players are those who can turn uncertainty into pressure.[/p][p]Now it's your turn. Will you draw a card? Or do you prefer to roll the dice? Either way... give the devil their due when they make you question all the rules.[/p][p][/p]
Looking Forward
[p]We can't wait to see what clutch plays you have up your sleeve with Djain on the field. There's nothing better than experiencing that rush when Lady Luck is on your side, and Djain enables you to have those moments. When the gamble pays off and you rapidly close out a game or flip a team fight? That's the best feeling there is.[/p][p][/p][p]May the Glass break your way.[/p][p]

Glassbreakers - Development Blog #3

[p]Happy Friday, Breakers! We’re excited to give you a peek at another new feature coming to Glassbreakers: Champion Mastery.[/p][p]—[/p][p]When we launched the Glassbreakers Open Beta in 2023, it was an exciting first step—an opportunity to share our vision, gather feedback, and explore how players engaged with the game. Since taking the game offline, we’ve used what we learned to reshape the experience in meaningful ways.[/p][p]One of the most significant changes we announced was that Glassbreakers is no longer a free-to-play game. And that shift has opened up new design possibilities that weren’t feasible during the beta phase.[/p][p][/p]
Unlocking Champions at Your Own Pace
[p]In Development Blog #1, we touched on why we moved away from F2P. One of the most significant benefits of this shift is the ability to create more rewarding progression systems. Removing the need to gate content behind microtransactions or steep grinds to keep players returning day after day allowed us to introduce a more thoughtfully designed Champion Mastery system that ensures players can unlock all Champions over time through regular play.[/p][p]This new system strikes a balance between providing a clear path to earning every Champion, while still offering stretch goals and rewards such as Legendary skins, banners, and dyes, to keep things interesting Olong term.[/p][p]Oh hey, here's an example of one of the rewards you can get for Sahima!
[/p]
Rewarding Play
[p]At its core, the Champion Mastery system rewards your experience with each Champion every time you play a match. These points come from time spent in the game, but you’ll also earn bonuses for accomplishing in-game features. Every performance fuels your progress through the system.
By progressing through the system, you’ll unlock the next Champion in the lineup, as well as personalization perks like dyes and skins that allow you to personalize your team.[/p]
Accessing Your Rewards
[p]Every time you earn a reward, you can interact with that Champion’s mastery track by selecting them in the Customization menu. There, you’ll see everything you’ve unlocked and a preview of what’s to come![/p][p]You’ll also be able to try on your new cosmetics right then and there. No digging through menus or guessing what something looks like. Just unlock, equip, and jump back into a match with a whole new vibe.[/p][p][/p]
Putting Fun First
[p]Unlocking Champions is one of the most exciting milestones for any player in any game, so we knew we wanted that experience in Glassbreakers to be rewarding and straightforward. Adding a new Champion to your lineup should feel like a big moment, not an endless climb. This is why Champions are one of the earliest unlocks in the Mastery track—if you’re not vibing with a Champion, you won’t need to spend a lot of time playing them to get to the next one.[/p][p]Our goal is to make play feel meaningful and progression fair and engaging, not a job that burns you out before you get there. By keeping the Champions front-loaded in the Mastery tracks, progression keeps moving to ensure your time is well spent. Do you want to focus on mastering only a handful of Champions and unlocking all their cosmetics? Go for it! Prefer to bounce between teams and grow your lineup quickly? That works too. It’s all about making tangible progress.[/p][p][/p][p]—[/p][p][/p][p]With this approach, we’re ensuring that every session in Glassbreakers brings you closer to something you care about, whether that’s a new Champion in your roster or a fresh way to express yourself. [/p][p]As always, we are grateful for your passion and excitement for Glassbreakers. So make sure to let us know what you’re most excited about, tell a friend, and stay tuned for our next developer blog next week![/p][p][/p][p]May the Glass break your way![/p][p]

Glassbreakers - Development Blog #2

[p]Hello, my name is Chris, the Design Director for Glassbreakers, and I’m thrilled to reveal the first unannounced hero coming to the game—Sahima![/p][p][/p]
Who is Sahima?
[p]For players of Moss: Book II, Sahima needs no introduction. A nomadic lone wolf who has walked a solitary path for many years, Sahima has a troubled history with the Readers. But when the call came, she couldn’t turn away. A skilled and disciplined fighter, Sahima uses her chakram to strike down foes from a distance, ensuring that no enemy is safe from her reach.[/p][p][/p]
From Moss: Book II to Glassbreakers
[p]When players first encountered Sahima in Moss: Book II, she brought a unique ranged experience to the game, switching up how players thought about combat encounters. Her chakram, capable of bouncing off multiple enemies at once, made it incredibly satisfying to take down multiple foes in one fluid motion. Her fighting style already being defined made the transition from Moss: Book II to Glassbreakers seamless.[/p][p]In Glassbreakers, Sahima’s chakram-based basic attack gives her the ability to hit multiple Champions at once, forcing your opponent to consider their team’s positioning. The charged up chakram ricochets between enemies, punishing pairs of isolated Champions to devastating effect.[/p][p][/p]
Playing With Sahima
[p]Sahima is a high-risk, high-reward hero who thrives with aggressive play where her bouncing chakram can maximize damage. She’s a damage dealer who really shines when the fight is the most intense. She excels at ambushing a pair of Champions, turning a 2v1 into a decisive victory. But she’s fragile—if caught alone, she won’t last long. Protecting and setting her up for success is critical to get the most out of her kit. She’s the perfect pick if you are the type of player that wants to apply relentless pressure to your opponent.[/p][p]If you’re facing Sahima on the battlefield, the name of the game is positioning. Forcing her into situations where she is unable to take advantage of her chakram’s bounces dramatically reduces her damage output. Worse, a carefully maneuvered stun can quickly remove her from the fight. [/p][p]Whether you love fast, aggressive gameplay or tactical positioning, Sahima is the perfect addition to your team composition, and she brings new depth to every fight.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]As always, let us know what you think! We love hearing your feedback and analysis “crunch” of how each hero will fit into your chosen team comp, so sound off in the Polyarc Discord. We can't wait to see what you have to say![/p][p][/p][p]Join the Discord

Glassbreakers - Development Blog #1

[p]Snuggle up, Squad, and welcome to the first Steam Glassbreakers developer blog of 2025! We know that you have been waiting for an update from us, and we are excited to finally share more with you. So grab your beverage of choice and settle in, because today marks the beginning of fresh details about Glassbreakers.[/p][p][/p][p]We know what you’re thinking: “Where have you been? We’ve been waiting for an update on Glassbreakers since Open Beta.”[/p][p][/p][p]As many of you know, Polyarc is a small and growing, but independent studio of around 40 people. Over the last year, we’ve been busy. For instance, in late 2024, we delivered a Quest 3S and 3 update for Moss fans, bringing the visuals in line with other platforms, adding a combat skip feature to address player feedback and appeal to more cozy gamers in VR, and fixing a few small bugs. But behind the scenes, we never stopped working on Glassbreakers.[/p][p][/p][p]At the end of the Open Beta period in January 2024, we had amassed quite a bit of feedback from players and partners about what you’d like to see when Glassbreakers made its eventual return. Two things became clear:[/p]
 • [p]As a small studio, free-to-play was difficult to sustain. If you’ve played a F2P title, you know that they survive off of constant content drops, such as cosmetics and new heroes. For a small team working on multiple projects, this can be a challenge, and we didn’t want a bad experience for our players. Which leads us to…,[/p]
 • [p]We recognized that many players are feeling fatigued with the F2P model. Games can feel unfinished and endless battle pass grinds don’t always feel rewarding or interesting. More and more, we see players asking for games that have meaningful progression systems.[/p]
[p]With these two things in mind, we made the decision to take Glassbreakers offline so we could do the work necessary to make changes that we felt better aligned with our vision.[/p][p][/p][p]So with all of that said, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Glassbreakers, and we are thrilled to announce that we have begun sharing sneak-peeks and new information in the Polyarc Discord server. In fact, we are going live next Wednesday, June 25th, at 3PM Pacific, in the Polyarc Discord server to chat with Polyarc Creator LiveOpenMike about Glassbreakers development and answer your questions.[/p][p][/p][p]Convert to Your Local Time and Date Join the Discord Server[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As we embark on this part of the Glassbreakers journey together, we are grateful for your patience, passion, and dedication. Your comments, art, videos, and enthusiasm certainly has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. As always, we can’t wait to see what you think about what we’ve been working on through our Town Halls over the coming months, so make sure you head over to the Polyarc Discord so you don’t miss a single beat.[/p][p][/p][p]Join the Polyarc Discord[/p]
