Fixing the Floor

Hey Warlocks!

We're back with another fix. This time we're addressing a recently reported issue where players would occasionally fall through the world and plummet into an endless abyss. This should no longer be the case.

Until next time!

60 000 reasons why

Hey Warlocks,

Today, at 09:41 AM CET, Project Warlock Daily Deal sales crossed the threshhold of 60 000 units towards the final hours of the two weeks' sale event. One that launched simultaneously with Doom: The Dark Ages launch on Steam. And it smashed the concurrent players count in the game's history reaching 396 people playing simultaneously. And it launched a barrage of reviews with some honey sweet praise, as well as some tar flavoured critique. Well, a game's never done it seems.

At least not Project Warlock that is.

To exceed expectations in a game's seventh year is one thing.

But to exceed them by a margin as wide as the gaping hole in a monkey demon after taking a triple-shot blunderbuss to the chest?

Another thing entirely.

But with a lot of power, comes a lot of responsibility. Such as responsibility to continue fixing some of the issues you brought to our attention in Project Warlock. The responsibility to take the story of Project Warlock: Lost Chapters in exciting new direction, with fresh weapons, enemies, locales and exciting additions to the original Project Warlock template. And the responsibility to make sure that today's Project Warlock II leaving Early Access, with a hefty 50% discount to boot (and an extra 10% off if you own Project Warlock in a bundle) - and if you have Project Warlock is as good a game as we possible can make it.

So to reinforce the message. Thank you to everyone who played, plays or will play Project Warlock of past, present and future. We'll try to make sure each is a game that despite differences in setting, verticality or number of Warlocks available to play will promises an exciting, colourful and pixel bloody fun. And one that you will get to enjoy.

THANK YOU!

1.1.0.20 Hotfix

Hey Warlocks!

Following yesterday's update, we've identified and fixed an issue where player movement became inverted, causing players to move in the opposite direction of their input.

This should no longer be the case, and movement should now respond correctly to your controls at all times.

Enjoy, and see you in the next one!

Achievement, final boss and elevator fixes + other stuff too

Hey Warlocks,

Following up on last week's announcement, we're ready to roll out the newest update for Project Warlock! This update addresses some of the issues highlighted by the community, introduces gameplay improvements, and should allow you to enjoy the remaining week of Project Warlock's Best Deal Ever at 90% knowing that you can't fall through the elevator shaft anymore! Also - do share your feedback regarding the new Weapon Wheel - we're keen to know what you think.

Without further ado, here are the patch notes:

Unity Engine Upgrade
  • Updated the Unity Engine version from 5.6 to 2018.1.9f2
This change improves overall performance and was essential to fix elevator physics and player interaction issues
Gameplay Improvements
  • Added Weapon Wheel as an alternate weapon of weapon switching for both the mouse + keyboard and controller setups
  • Mouse Scroll Weapon Switching polished and improved
Resolved a bug that caused skipped selections due to inconsistent input logic

Achievements
  • Changed the way "Evil Nightmare" achievement is obtainable - From now on the "Evil Nightmare" achievement is rewarded for Single Life Mode as it always should have been. Also, achievement descriptions have been updated to properly fit the difficulty modes.

After the reworked difficulty modes update, these achievements were granted for completing each mode:
  • Casual - Piece of Cake
  • Standard - Come Get Some
  • Hard - Bring it on!
  • Hardcore - No achievement
  • Single Life Mode - No achievement

We're changing things up to better reflect the current state of the game and difficulty modes, and bringing the achievements in line with how they were intended to be obtainable. After this patch, the achievments will be granted as follows:
  • Casual - Double-edged Sword...
  • Standard - Piece of Cake
  • Hard - Come Get Some
  • Hardcore - Bring it on!
  • Single Life Mode - Evil Nightmare

Due to the nature of this change, the achievements cannot be automatically granted retroactively. However, we have successfully tested a solution that allows us to indirectly grant the Evil Nightmare achievement to players who didn't receive it after their victorious playthrough.

If you beat Project Warlock on the Single Life Mode before this update and did not receive the Evil Nightmare achievement, you can send a request with attached save file to [email protected] to have it added to your account. The save file is located in this directory:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Buckshot Software\Project Warlock\Steam\STEAMID
We will be able to alter the save file in a way that you will be granted the Evil Nightmare achievement after launching the game. Please note that this solution is for players who completed the ultimate Project Warlock challenge but were not awarded the achievement due to technical issues.

Final Boss Balance Adjustments
  • Adjusted boss fight phases for better pacing and balance:
    • Phase 1: Maintains a solid amount of HP
    • Phase 2: Slightly lowered the HP pool due to phase-ending animation
    • Phase 3: Slightly reduced HP
    • Phase 4: Retains high amount of HP
    • Phase 5: Lowered HP for a smoother "final blow" phase
  • Added more ammo, health, and mana pickups throughout the level
Elevators
  • Elevator system has been fully recoded for better performance and stability
  • Fixed occasional issue of falling through the map
  • Solved jittering when going up the elevators
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where dynamite would travel unpredictably when strafing around
  • Fixed Sonic Rocket Launcher projectile rendering issues
  • Fixed the elevator staggering and making sure you cannot falll through

Thanks again for all the feedback, bug reports, and support. Based on your feedback we've identified some more areas to improve on - and will continue doing so. And for now:

Jump back in, enjoy the changes, and don’t miss the limited-time 90% discount!

Warlock Projects

This year will mark Project Warlock's seventh birthday meaning it can now write, do simple chores and can legally get to play Minecraft, Rayman Legends and Sackboy: The Big Adventure, but sadly not Stardew Valley, Hogwarts Legacy and Stray. Not to mention, Project Warlock cannot in good conscience be allowed to play Wolfenstein 3D (PEGI 12), Hexen (PEGI 12) and let's not even start on the 1993 Doom (17+). Guess those three will have to wait.

We're still due for a proper nostalgia trip further down the line, as December launch anniversary comes closer, but for now - a couple of important updates.
1. Project Warlock: 90% Off Biggest Discount Yet + Upcoming Patch Info
Most of these are either being implemented, furiously playtested or in the process of finalising the change, but you can expect a patch soon, and one that will touch upon the below outlined issues.

And this is coming hot on the trail of Project Warlock's biggest discount yet - you will be able to grab Project Warlock with a staggering 90% discount starting today and running for the next two weeks, This is to commemorate the launch of a new incarnate of the game that started it all - Doom: Dark Ages. Anyway - here's the list of issues that the patch will address.
2. Project Warlock II - Leaving Early Access May 28th
After a long and tumultous development that went places we never intended it to go, Project Warlock II is leaving Early Access in two weeks - that's May 28th. So if you were withholding on playing the game while it was being constructed midflight you might want to stretch those arms, crack fingers and dust off that mousepad as this is when the game officially drops. We plan to keep expanding the game and deliver some more or less surprising features after the launch.
3. Project Warlock: Lost Chapters Development Update
We've been keeping that one close to the chest, as Project Warlock II went on to occupy roughly 25 hours per day in the last few months, but we're now ready to show some of the designs you can expect to take your blunderbuss, anchor launcher and parrot to. Wait. Pa... What?

The game is in active development, with extra team members working on the art and level design making sure Lost Chapters strikes back in the heart of the nostalgia that the original Warlock did. We're planning to have the game out sooner rather than later, but more on that in the coming months. Stay tuned and in the meantime - wishlist and follow Project Warlock: Lost Chapters here.
