Experimental Branch Dangerous Plants Update!

Hey Survivalists!

This patch follows the animal update, which added 2 feathery creatures and a furry one. Plus, an overhaul to the Labyrinths which you can find here: https://steamcommunity.com/games/897450/announcements/detail/2916606188822442689

As always leave your feedback in the comments below, it is hugely appreciated and has helped us shape up the game to be the best it can be! Plus, we'll be working off of this feedback and doing more testing to get these updates to the live version!
Dangerous Plants
The land begins to stir and a dormant threat is growing once again. A deadly species of carnivorous plant unique to the mysterious archipelago bears its teeth with subspecies emerging shaped by the harsh environments.

Entering the swamp is now even more dangerous! The poisonous subspecies infests the bogs. Don't get too close! It protects itself by spreading its deadly spores in the area around it.

The volcanic environment is a harsh and barren place, where only the hardiest of plants can survive. The volcanic subspecies emerges from the ashes, spitting flaming seeds at its prey.
Bug fixes and QOL changes
• Fixed an issue where biomes were not triggering their visual effects correctly. Hostile biomes will now feel less welcoming.
 • Added 3 new enemies in the form of hostile plants that will attack players and Orclings.
 • Removed unnecessary collision on bone piles.
 • Fixed an issue where wolves & birds looked like they weren't being hit.
 • Wolves & birds should now appear more frequently in the world.
 • All big cats will appear more frequently in the world.
 • Cat lairs are now very dangerous at night. Good luck!
 • Item rarities are now slightly clearer in the crafting tree.
 • It is now slightly harder to avoid the attacks of big cats.
 • Minor balancing tweaks to the stranger shop.
 • Spectres are now slightly easier to see at night.

That's it for this update, we hope you like these changes and look forward to hearing what you think about them! We'll be looking to move forward with more changes and the new content into a live patch as soon as we can so any feedback is hugely appreciated.

If you don't have access to the Experimental Branch yet for The Survivalists and would like to try upcoming changes to the game you can do some by following the information below...

Installing the Experimental Branch

Warning on save data

If you access the Experimental Branch you risk your save data. We highly recommend backing up your save data before accessing it. Your save data default should be here:

You can just copy this to another folder for safe keeping.

Your current save will be compatible with the new Experimental Branch but likely you will not be able to go back to default with that save. The Experimental Branch will be kept up to date, so you could in theory just play the new branch going forwards. Also you will only be able to play online with other experimental branch players as the default will be incompatible.

Steps to enable Experimental Branch

First right click the game in your Steam Library and select Properties.

Then select the ‘Betas’ tab.

From here select Experimental from the dropdown list.

Once you next try to open The Survivalists on Steam you should automatically download the experimental branch!

Vote For The Survivalists in The Steam Awards 2020!

Hey Survivalists!

It's already time for this years Steam Awards, happy winter season one and all!

We've been listening to the community and something universally loved has been our desert island sound track. We'd be super appreciative if you would support us by voting for the game in the Best Soundtrack category.

We've got lots more planned going into 2021 but also will have a content update out this year and can't wait for you all to dig in. You can already test some of the additions early in the experimental branch here.

Experimental Branch Update - Boar Rework and Rebalance and More!

Hey Survivalists!

Another patch to the experimental branch has just washed ashore!

Here's all of todays changes based on all of your amazing feedback!

Experimental Branch - Patch Notes 20/11/2020

Balancing and Quality of Life Changes

A change has been made to some default key bindings which may have an effect on the player's
custom keybings. We urge players to check their custom keybindings after updating.

Players can now also move to cancel crafting when using a Multi-tool. A long with last weeks bush collision removal, this is another largely requested anti-frustration feature a lot of the community has requested!

Boars Changes - We felt boars were a little too frustrating to fight against so we've tuned them in several areas:
 • Increased the delay between their attacks.
 • More warning is given for their pre-charge.
 • Slightly reduced their movement speed.
 • Damage radius and knockback decreased

Fixes

 • Fixed an issue with one of the Labyrinth rooms being broken.
 • Fixed an issue where the Quest privilege option was incorrectly labelled.
 • Fixed an issue with the Mysterious Stranger's store where players were unable to sell a stack of items.
 • Fixed various issues with the behaviour of Mysterious Chests in online sessions.
 • Fixed an issue where Torches and Braziers were no longer animating.
 • Fixed an issue where players were unable to rotate wooden chairs found in the wild.
 • Fixed an issue where wolves were not putting distance between themselves and the player after attacking.
 • Fixed an issue where the bloodmoon effect would appear a day before the world was replenished.

We hope you like these changes and look forward to hearing what you think about them!

Experimental Branch Animal Update!

Hey Survivalists!

We have an update that's just landed on the experimental branch, which is an a version of the game where you can try new changes early.
New Animals
This week we have three new animals!

The Wolves, Tank Bird and Flock Birds!

We hope you have fun find these creatures with new patterns, behaviors and attacks! Let us know what you think of these furry and feathered friends in the comments below.
Labyrinth Overhaul
We've updated the Labyrinths to better reflect their themes! The Cat Labyrinth has big cats inside, there's more bats in the Bat Labyrinth, boars in the Boar Labyrinth and extra spectres in the Ape Labyrinth!

We hope this will both make the Labyrinths thematically more interesting but also offering different new challenges to each. Please let us know your thoughts on the Labyrinths and if you feel this has improved them at all below!
Quality of Life Tweaks
• We've removed collisions from bushes to help with the common complaint that people felt they were constantly getting stuck in the environment.
 • We've also tweaked combat so that actions can be interrupted, you don't need to wait for the whole animation to play before dodge rolling for example.

That's it for this update, we hope you like these changes and look forward to hearing what you think about them! More animal themed updates will be coming soon...
