DASH: Danger Action Speed Heroes News

A DASHINGLY ACTION-PACKED LAUNCH! Get DASH on the store TODAY!!

Hey how is everyone?! :D

I'm Jakob aka Baby Duka and together with my mini team we launched our baby DASH: Danger Action Speed Heroes on Steam and Discord Store yesterday June 6! The game has received good praise (Most Anticipated game of 2018 on the IndieDB) and people are loving our new approach to the sports-platformer and maker genre. Speedrunners and creative gamers read on.

Check out a wild mashup of awesome streamers here ► https://youtu.be/KaZK4QdHL6c

I initially started working on the demo back late 2017 when I was living in Copenhagen and just wanted to make a game that I could test laying in my couch :D And now it has come all the way to the top of the Steam's Action, Indie, Linux and Early Access pages (top 6) and it is currently the only game on the Discord store of its kind: a competitive and creative 2D platformer with dope music!! WOW! July 2018 I teamed up with Phil and Concerned to make sure we had enough capacity to power up the community and game! It's been almost one year of intense community building, indie marketing and game developing. Three different offices, two broken controllers and a lot of new players!!!

Build 2002 patch 5

Fixes and Implementations:

  • Now displaying some info during load screen and pause menu to inform (new) players of features which may be further away in the experience, yet are interesting to put in mind
  • Pause menu’s title and level description now has a background to make the header more visible/entact.
  • Max Leap’s sprite wasn’t showing as a tile in the Alien theme during editor. Now he’s back and beautiful
  • The editor now remembers which tile you are using/building with as you enter and exit preview mode. You no longer have to shift through the tiles to get back to the one you were using as you pressed the preview button.
  • The Best Rated filter is now improved and 100% correct. Before this build this playlist was showing some not always well rated levels

Baby Duka is moving office next week to the countryside, out in open, where the flowers grow and the bees live! This means we will be off the map during next week only to return to the final prepping of the EARLY ACCESS LAUNCH!!!

Release plan:
Though things may change we are aiming to launch on Steam and Discord on Windows and Linux early June 2019! Which means we're not long from the big bang  :dashlogo: :duffiejump: :raiderjump: This week we did not finish the Discord integration, but due to the high priority it is we will finish up after moving office.

New patch to build 2002: New fixes and final implementations

Build 2002
Release candidate 04
May 10th 2019

Early Access Beta branch

Fixes:
  • Stopped goal tile from deleting the tile beneath it when deleting the goal tile
  • Prevented game from crashing when beating record in while making a level
  • Max Leap has a longer fire dash. His long ramp up time made his fire dash almost unfairly short
  • Explosions’ smoke particles caused the game to drop frames. Now fixed by dividing the max number of particles with the number of explosions

    var debrisCnt = round(irandom_range(6,maxDebris)/explosioncount);

  • World Record ghost (WR ghost) now set to ON by default

Implementations:

  • Players’ clocks are now placed in the top with a slight transparency to try and see if it solves the issue with the clocks blocking the player’s view
  • Larger collision masks when head-jumping, meaning it’s harder to die now. Making it less tedious to try and bounce on enemies
  • Preventing player from pressing R as the end level sequence is on to prevent double restart response
  • Game now pauses if gamepad is accidently disconnected
  • Steam achievements! We have put down 13 basic challenges to get started on the achievement system (later the achievement system will be implemented in-game so that it is not depending on Steam)
  • DASH World (formerly known as http://dashworld.babyduka.com) is now called https://dashworld.online . Make sure to update it if you have it bookmarked in your browser

Patch to 2002: Fixing errors and implementing Heroes' wait animations

Hello all DASHers!

The latest build has received a lot of good feedback and there are only a short list of bugs which should be fixed in this patch.

  • Fixed crash when new player has 0 diamonds or records
  • Fixed crash in Hero Menu (bad typing)
  • Implemented all Heroes' "wait" animations in the Heroes menu.

I hope this patch works otherwise drop by the Discord and let us know! ► Discord invite

Final Update to Test Branch Before Early Access Launch Q2 2019!

Welcome to update 2002! The final one where we are testing pre-Early Access build in the community. This article summarizes the updates and reveals new implementations and fixes. Get ready for some DASHing!

Fixes and implementations:

  • Worldwide leaderboards: See the Top 5 World Record holders and Top 5 creators, as well as your own position in the list

  • Default playlists in Custom filter in Play Menu: Beginner Levels and Example List. To help new players learn about playlists and DASH World
  • Updated Heroes menu: Amount of diamonds collected and WRs displayed relative to Hero

  • Default motion is now Sprint instead of Walk, meaning the two mechanics have been swapped. You are now always running and when you hold Ctrl/Z/R1/RB you Walk. Walk can be used to sneak past sleeping enemies (only Sploders for now). Later a crumbling tile will be implemented where it will crumble faster if you are sprinting, so you will have to walk carefully over it otherwise you will fall through.
  • Explanation in Play menu over level slots
  • Difficulty added to level slot in Play menu (ex.: [Easy] or [Extreme])
  • New particles: I took the time to get rid of all non-low-res particles so that all dust clouds, farts, fire and smoke clouds are spawned with a handmade sprite to fit the overall theme. It’s amazing how a detail like this (which is so important) really ties everything together even more.
  • Rich Presence: Make sure to add DASH to your games library in your Discord user settings! DASH now has Rich presence meaning that it will show Playing DASH: Danger Action Speed Heroes under your logo when you play the game

  • New ghost/WR ghost polish: the ghosts are now more transparent as the player is closer and becomes up to 90% transparent as it gets further away from player. It finally feels good and not as if the ghost is in the way.
  • Set directions of tiles: you are now able to adjust the starting direction of Slappers, Spitters, Slapbats (up and down too) and moving platforms.

  • Polished player scoreboard design in Main menu: redesigned to indicate the data more clearly
  • All in all we have done a lot to meet the feedback from build 2001, where players did not understand the diamond display. Several design features are implemented to help the understanding of the record system
  • Confetti when celebrating level uploaded or new world record!

  • Rating displayed in pause menu, so there is even more info on what you are playing
  • New design with more graphics to support the power of the Play menu.
  • Help in Editor: while working on a level, new players can easily learn the names of all individual tiles. A small text overlay appears at the bottom of the screen now.

This build (2002) is the final release before the official Early Access release. We will patch this build but there will be no more features implemented until we are live with all the new players and streamers Q2 2019 (announcement coming soon).

Things which will be finished and put in patch next week:

  • Short intro sequence
  • Handling offline player
  • Last animation touches
  • New tile set

We know that there are plenty of stuff which we would have loved to have in the build BUT remember: Early Access is all about implementing stuff on the go. Just like we have been doing since August 2018 :) But now the very basic game box is solid and polished. Because we have been playing, testing, implementing and updating for so many months we really feel that everything is set and ready to roll. Of course we have the nasty back-of-the-drawer note with bugs that are rare but mean. These we will make sure are on the spot as we go live.

We will be announcing the official release date (dadadadaaaa…) very soon

And one more thing: LOOK AT ALL THESE EPIC LEVELS LISTED!!!

Much respect and appreciation to the community of DASHers! We're almost there!
