Dev Diaries: Map Gen
Patch 0.14 in April
Hey, Interns, it's been a while! That's why we thought we'd chat a bit more about what's coming for the next patch (which will be available by the end of April), why we're tossing in those changes, and what's on the horizon after that. Today's focus: "Maps" and all things related. Let's dive in!
The World
Exploration is a key part of the game! Whether you're sprinting around just for giggles or dash between bases, it should be a blast, with activities along the way and fresh scenery around every bend. That's why in the upcoming patch, we're doubling down on all fronts, aiming to spice up the map with more variety and interactions!
Biomes
In the current patch (0.13), all three biomes have the same grass patterns and cliffs, making the map kinda blend together and doesn't really add anything fresh for exploration. So, in the upcoming patch (0.14), we're improving biomes by giving each of them its own unique style plus we are adding bunch of new models to keep things exciting and different!

New Lakes!

More cacti to really nail vibes of desert!

Get ready to stumble upon some new rocks and mountains, dive into pristine lakes, and find new shiny power crystals to build around!

We're also throwing in some new Tech that you can build only in specific biomes, that would result in intriguing decisions on where to expand your base!

These tweaks are coming with patch 0.14, promising a whole new vibe and gameplay experience in each biome. But we're not stopping there! We're committed to keep every spot in the game feeling distinct and captivating!
Map Events
As you run from one spot to another, you might stumble upon a flower to pluck, an Alty Morp to catch, or a rare resource to collect. But it still feels like there's not quite enough action during your exploration. That's why for patch 0.14, we're preparing a fresh mechanic — Map Events! Or Side Activities? Or Mini Games...

Map Events will pop up randomly while you're out exploring, throwing puzzles, resource-fetching, or platforming challenges your way! Once you've nailed the mini-game, you'll get sweet resources as a reward. This should entertain Interns on their long adventures between bases with some extra gameplay!
Behind the Scenes
Here's a little secret: the maps are actually hand-drawn and then pieced together to one big map. This lets us craft unique locations, lakes, cliffs, and puzzles, while also ensuring a fresh experience each time you play. We mix and rotate all of the parts to create something totally new and exciting for each playthrough!

We've got specific tools for Map Editing, and if anyone's keen on giving map-making a shot, just let us know! We can streamline the tools, package them up nicely, and add them into the game. You'll be able to create new maps for your friends or community to try out. Picture this: a map dotted with islands, or a sprawling stretch of land where you can only build in one direction... you know what? That's a pretty solid idea. We might just whip up a few for ourselves!
Coming Soon
We'll keep working on enhancing the map experience, and here are a few upcoming changes you can expect after patch 0.14:

Cliffs have always seemed a bit empty, so let's spruce them up with some decorations!

Or how about adding a new landmarks?

How about some fishing, waterfalls, customizable map sizes, or even some environmental puzzles to solve? The possibilities for the map improvements are endless, and we're totally open to your ideas too! Let us know what you'd like to see in Time to Morp!
See you in April
These aren't the only changes on the horizon for 0.14: we've got new Morp, new Resources, new Recipes, and so much more! Make sure to swing by when patch goes live and give us your feedback! We can't wait to see you in the game! That's all for now.
Morp like you mean it!
