Road to Release: News about Save Games and Betas

Hello Officers,

We’re getting closer and closer to leaving Early Access on November 10 and launching a new chapter for Police Simulator: Patrol Officers. Some of you have been with us since the very beginning and we can not state enough how incredibly thankful we are for your support – in the past, in the present, and for everything that is yet to come.

While this is all quite exciting, we are aware that we owe you answers to some of your questions. Today we want to focus on future save game behavior and the future of our open beta program.
Will my save game be erased?
Short answer: No!

Long answer: No, but we still recommend creating a completely new save game once we leave Early Access. Loading a save game that you have created during Early Access might cause unexpected behavior in the newer versions.

If you start a new journey instead of using an old save game, you will have the best experience when it comes to updated game balancing and a better learning curve while also avoiding any outdated balancing issues that might cause the game to misbehave.

However, if you wish, you can continue playing with your currently existing save game. We won’t take it away.
What will happen to the beta program?
As you know, right now, we are releasing every bigger update into open beta prior to its full release – and this has been very helpful during our time in Early Access.

However, once we leave Early Access, we sadly have to say goodbye to our beta program. This is due to a more complicated and sophisticated development approach going forward – but in return, we greatly increased our own internal resources in both the development and quality assurance part!

No worries, we will continue working alongside you to further improve and expand the game. Nothing has changed about that! We are grateful for all the feedback you provide and without everything you did, the game would not have been as successful as it is right now.
How will the release work?
Well, to be honest, it is more a formal act than an entire revolution. Once we leave Early Access on November 10, we will release the “Day One Patch” with version number 7.2.0 – and it will contain much-requested improvements like being able to turn off incoming callouts, arrest transport picking up more people and using your patrol car as a road blocker. Of course, the update will also contain a huge amount of fixes for both bugs and crashes. Quite a nice care package!

In addition, we will carry out a price increase when we leave Early Access. The game will then cost 29.99 Euro / 24.99 GBP / 29.99 USD on PC. This seems obvious, but just to make it clear: If you have bought the game already, you will of course keep it. The new price is only relevant to players who decide to buy the game after November 10.

Everyone who bought the game during Early Access will also receive a free DLC containing a fourth patrol car, the Urban Terrain Vehicle. You can find more details about it here. The DLC will become purchasable to anyone who buys the game after Early Access.

And with all that… the shiny blue Early Access badge will vanish from our store page. We’re a grown-up video game then. But as with all of us, we will continue to grow and expand – and we can’t wait to do that alongside all of you.

Thank you so much and stay safe and healthy,

Your Police Simulator Team
What's inside today's episode?
Today is all about this year's gamescom in Cologne, Germany! 🎮
We're showing off our awesome booth design, talk about our media appointments and tell you a little bit more about the impressions from the players.

The entire PS:PO booth was themed like an actual precinct from the game, with a briefing room, flags and so much more. 👀

Players got to try out the console version on PS5 for the very first time, which you, by the way, can pre-order now.

We also talked to Laura and had her answer a few questions. She told us a bit more about Donny the donut, our beloved mascot! 🍩

Enjoy today's episode and get ready to get back on the road!

Now available: Update 7.1.0
Fellow officers,
We've fixed bugs! We've improved driving! We've added new QOL features! We've improved performance! Oh, and more! Why am I shouting!

Welcome to Update 7.1.0, now available to all players of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers!
Introducing: Update 7.1.0
After a few weeks of beta testing, we've polished the latest update and are now happy to share the latest version with you. Today's update 7.1.0 is everything that was included in the beta update 7.0.0... and more!

Let's dive right into everything that is inside! 👏
Car control improvements!
We are very much aware that driving a patrol car has not been the most pleasant experience in the past. It felt like you're trying to dance on ice. That's why we're tackling this very issue and issue a bunch of improvements to make it a lot more enjoyable.

We've rebalanced all patrol cars to make their controls more natural so please give us your feedback on that. In addition, we've added new settings related to vehicle steering sensitivity and controller dead zone adjustments. Last but not least: You can now switch seats from inside the car!
Manage the accidents you caused
Some of you are truly ruthless! Causing accidents left and right, bringing other NPCs in difficult situations, making them lose everything they own... but hey, it can be fun as well at times.

Now, you can manage these very accidents! Document the accident, talk to the NPC, and ensure everyone gets all the information necessary.

Side note: The speed limit of the street will now be displayed on the screen! Not just good for your own driving behavior but also for radar gun usage...
A little bit of balancing
If I say the following three things, will you finally be happy?!

Accidents will now happen less.
You will get fewer NPCs asking for directions.
Crimes are now happening farther away so that wallet thefts and so on won't happen right in front of your eyes.

Yes. Admit it. This feels good.
Performance Improvements
We've optimized the game in several areas to further improve performance by reducing memory usage, deleting unused assets and adjusting the number of parked NPVs (which, as a side effect, should bring other improvements with it).
Hungarian Language
This is only possible thanks to John Bart who spent his last few months working on the mod, translating the ENTIRE game to Hungarian. We can not even slightly imagine how much work that must have been so please thank him for his tremendous effort!

If you want to switch to Hungarian, you only have to head over to the Steam Workshop and subscribe to the mod! We'll make sure, together with him, that this localization option will get updated over time as well!

Thank you John Bart for all your efforts, it has been awesome working alongside you
What our next steps look like
This update has probably been the very last one before we leave Early Access on November 10th. However, we are already working on the next one which will have the version number 7.2.0 and release on that exact date - becoming our day-one-patch, so to say.

With the next update, we'll once again focus on the three pillars which already shaped today's update: Bug fixes, QOL features, and performance improvements.

Just to give you an outlook on what will await you on November 10th:

 • You will get an option to become unavailable to the dispatchers.
 • You can use your patrol car as a road blocker.
 • Arrest transport can now pick up more people.

Update 7.0.0 is coming on September 20 – Open Beta starts now!
Fellow officers,
gamescom is over and it has been a blast! Seeing so many of you come to our booth, try out the game and give us feedback... that was awesome. However, we haven't stopped working at all and especially not on the next update.

Welcome to Update 7.0.0 - now available in Open Beta before the full update launches on September 20th!
Introducing: Update 7.0.0
You might be wondering: Hey, why are they not naming it? Where's the fancy picture showing off the new features? Why is this blog post looking different than the others?

Well, it's actually quite simple. On our road to leaving Early Access, we want to polish the game further, focus on fixing bugs, and bring you a bunch of necessary quality-of-life improvements. Why add new features for the sake of new features when you should rather improve what has been there before?

That's why Update 7.0.0 is just... 7.0.0. It's a very simple naming but also an effective one.
Car control improvements!
We know, we know: The current way of controlling your patrol car is not really optimal at all.

Document the accident, talk to the NPC, ensure everyone gets all the information necessary.

Crimes are now happening more far away so that wallet thefts and so on won't happen right in front of your eyes.

... I'm happy now. It feels good.

Thank you John Bart for all your efforts, it has been awesome working alongside you
How do I enter the Open Beta?
We've made the process as easy as possible to include you, the community, early on during the development of the game. To join the Open Beta, you only need to perform the following steps:

 1. Right-click on Police Simulator: Patrol Officers in your Steam library.
 2. Select 'Properties' in the menu.
 3. Select 'Betas' in the sidebar on the left.
 4. Select 'Beta' in the drop-down menu and confirm your decision to switch to that branch.
 5. An update should now start - you are now officially part of the Open Beta!

To switch back to your stable save game, just repeat these steps again - but instead of selecting 'Beta', you just select 'None'. Easy.

Everyone can test the beta extensively and provide feedback on its features, balancing, and bugs. Feel free to send us your impressions on Discord, in the Steam Beta forums and on our Socials.
Save game to unlock everything in the beta
By visiting this link, you can download a save game for use on the beta branch (and only on the beta branch!). This save game will unlock all features immediately. You also need to know that you must copy the save game into the following folder:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Boston\Saved\SaveGames
You can find the folder more easily by typing %localappdata% into the Windows search.

Since the save is named Career_0beta.sav, you have to delete any other save game which might also be called Career_0beta.sav. We recommend doing a backup of the old save game as well should you want to keep it for the future.

Of course, this is completely optional and intended to help those who want to see everything unlocked in the beta from the very start. The old method of unlocking stuff does still work.

We're leaving Early Access on November 10th - and here's all you need to know!
Fellow officers,
yes, it's happening – as announced last time, after more than a year, we're actually leaving Early Access. What a ride it has been... Just take a look at all the updates we've released thus far! Without your feedback and incredible engagement, we would never have been able to follow our vision of creating the best possible Police Simulator out there.

I'd go as far as saying: You made it all possible.

In the latest blog post, we only mentioned that we *are* leaving Early Access. Well, now we have a date for you as well: November 10th, 2022.

(Some of you spotted the leaks in the last few weeks, but psht, that never happened, all fake of course.)
I missed it, why are you leaving Early Access?
We mentioned it in the initial announcement but no worries, I think it's important to get into detail:

We've been developing the game for some time now with frequent updates that have brought both content we planned and features the community wanted into the game. And there has been a lot. We are now at a development stage, where we are feeling confident to give players a well-rounded full gameplay experience not only on PC but (yes, on November 10th as well!) also on consoles. Just to clarify: Despite that, we are very much aware of lots of quirks we still need to tackle.
What comes after Early Access?
You probably have some questions regarding a revised roadmap and similar things. Unfortunately, we won't be able to give you an update at this very moment as we're still working on the details and everything is just not... ready. However, some of the stuff you have wished for is still definitely coming! This includes *banger features* like:
 • A brand-new powerful vehicle: The Urban Terrain Vehicle which will be FREE to all players joining us in Early Access! From release the additional patrol vehicle will be available as DLC at a price of 2.99 Euro/2.49 GBP/2.99 USD. It's a thank you gift
 • An additional alternative to stop fleeing suspects: By aiming or using a stun gun or by aiming the police gun, fleeing suspects can be made to stop. With one of the free updates, stopping by physical force will also be possible.
 • Hand out multiple tickets: When Brighton residents commit offenses, virtual enforcement officers can ask them to pay a fine or warn them. A free update will bring the possibility to charge all amounts cumulatively into the game.
 • Even more co-op fun: When patrol officers go on patrol together in co-op mode, the communication between them must work perfectly. A free update will implement helpful command shortcuts into the game with which they can communicate even better and in a more targeted manner. Only through perfect teamwork will they be able to keep law and order in Brighton.
Psht... this is what your new car looks like...👀
What else is there to say?
So, so, so, so, so much. But it's hard to put it all into words.

We'll be at gamescom starting... tomorrow! And stay there for the rest of the week. We can't wait to see you, for the very first time, in person. Come to booth B-040 in Hall 7 and say hi, we're there for a chat!

No worries, we plan to host a digital AMA as well. More details soon.

Yours dearly,
The entire Police Simulator Team
