Lore: The Void Order & Nyx’arh Assassins

“When one thinks of the Oblivion, hordes of Voidlings and other unnatural creatures come to mind. Dear child, the only thing that is certain in that ratchet place is the law of the strongest. You can see it in their actions, you can feel it in your bones. But not everyone in Oblivion agrees that their way of life is how it should be…”

For the Oblivion, there is only one way of advancing in this world - through evolution. However, when it comes to the ways to achieve that, not everyone is on the same page. Most of the Oblivion creatures will, while feeding, absorb the essence of their prey, and with it, their genes and their knowledge. After all, that is how it’s been done since the beginning. But there are some that believe the only real way to advance is through mastering their skills. For them, that is the profound way, not by stealing knowledge from others.
The Void Order is one such group. Its members have dedicated their lives to the honing of the assassination arts. Most creatures, even those in Oblivion, are not aware of their existence. And neither will their targets be until it’s too late.

Nyx’arh Assassins are the elite assassins of the Void Order. To become one, one must dedicate their life to the perfecting of the craft, but no matter how proficient they are, until they earn the honour of severing the connection to the hive mind, they will not be bestowed the entrance. Hazzerin is the commander of this elite order and gets his orders directly from the Overminds. After all, their sole mission is to eliminate the threats to the Overminds. At least, that is what the Overminds think… Hazzerin established a secret order within the Nyx’arh, hidden from the Overminds' gaze. Their mission is to launch an attack against the Overminds and end their rule over Oblivion. But Hazzerin is cunning. He will not start the coup until the time is right…

“The tyrants will oftentimes meet their end by the hand of those they firmly hold in their grip. But then again, usually, such risings are drowned in blood, even when their intention may be right… Who knows what the future holds for the Oblivion…”

Card Art Showcase: Netherspitter

Dear Denizens of Issilith!

Oblivion creatures come in many shapes and sizes, and some of them even have unique abilities thanks to their evolving properties. The same thing applies to the Voidlings.

While mentioning of Voidlings usually evokes a picture in one’s mind of the overwhelming hordes of little, purple creatures swarming and flying around, there are those among them who are more evolved and bring more to the table than just sheer numbers. One such creature is Netherspitter. These hound-like beasts are highly-evolved Voidlings. Their stomach began to excrete a nether-like substance allowing them to digest almost anything. With time, they’ve learned to use this as a weapon in combat. Their spit can destroy armour and weaken living beings, helping their less evolved kin to devour the pray more easily.

Netherspitter is an Oblivion 2-cost unit. Its stats are set at 1/2, and when you put it on the board, you’ll be able to target a local enemy unit and put a vulnerability counter on it. Every time that unit is dealt combat damage, it will lose the amount of health equal to the number of vulnerability counters it has. In the case of the Lesser Voidlings, that will help you take a unit down in half the time it would usually take.

Card Art Showcase: Tikiri Trapmaker

Dear Denizens of Issilith!

New Year will bring some changes to our posting schedule as well. Starting next week, you can expect our Friday posts and game-related updates on Mondays. The main reason we decided on the switch is so we can address any potential problems and pesky bugs that may occur after the game updates as soon as possible.
That being said, let us learn a little bit more about those sneaky Tikiri that dwell in the Cursed Woods and wreak havoc among their unsuspecting victims.

Usually secretive, this smallish race of rat-like beings has made their home in the thickest forest and vegetation on Solgard, where they can easily hide if needed. Stealth is the name of the game for the Tikiri, and as they can’t really take anyone in hand-to-hand combat, their usual solution is a “one shot - one kill” plan. Just don’t think that if you’re not in the Cursed Woods you’ll be safe from these sneaky creatures. Some of them offer their services as mercenaries. Their way of life has turned them into experts in infiltration and they’ve devised many dirty tricks to help them neutralize their targets. Because of their skillset, they are usually held in high regard by their clientele.
If you ever wish to use their services, don’t make the mistake of underestimating them. While they don’t necessarily seem intelligent, they are fierce negotiators. And even though they have no allegiance to anyone, most of them will honour their deals, at least if they don’t feel like they can swindle you and get away with it. Let’s be real, you can’t really be sneaky if you’re not smart.

Tikiri Trapmaker is one of the low-cost units in PHAGEBORN that is always nice to have in the deck. This 2-cost Vestige unit has its stats set at 1/2, and every time your opponent plays a unit locally, Tikiri Trapmaker will deal 1 damage to it. A great unit to have on the board in the early stages of the game when every point of damage made to your enemy’s units can turn the tides in your favour. If left unchecked, Trapmaker can bring a lot of value to the player that has it on the board.

What is your favourite low-cost unit? Feel free to comment below or join our Discord channel (Discord) and share your preferences with us!

Card Art Showcase: Academy Walker

Dear Denizens of Issilith!

Everyone always talks about how the Drakkorith nation is mighty, how their warriors are hardy, and their strategic thinking has no equal. But that doesn’t mean they don’t excel in some other areas as well. One of the best examples of what the Drakkorith can achieve with their expertise combined is the Academy Walker.

On the very border of the Drakkorith territory, near the mountainous region of Solgard lies Zargonia, home of the Harkon academy. This place is known as the alma mater of some of the best Drakkorith architects and engineers, so it really doesn't come as a surprise that their academies are no less impressive. Branches of the prestigious Harkon academy are mounted on the backs of massive teradons, creatures Drakkorith biologists created through breeding ostodons with other animals in their attempt to bring back the long-gone dragons.
The question that arises is what is more worth the awe? Their success in breeding these large animals? Their engineering feat of mounting such grand structures on the creature’s back? Or their ability to keep the imposing beasts calm, even while they are on the front lines?

Academy Walker is a Drakkorith unit that costs 7 essence. With its stats set at 4/8, this creature doesn’t have too much problem with standing on its own four feet. But what comes as a little extra benefit for the player is the effect Academy Walker has. Every time it is damaged, it will spawn an Auric Cadet in a random zone. After all, they are here to protect. Depending on your playstyle, a card that may synergize well with the Academy Walker is the ability card Order: Shield up!. While it won’t be able to attack, it will still do retaliation damage, and the extra health and armour gained will give the Academy Walker more sustain, making it a real nuisance for your opponent to clear.

What is your favourite card to combine with the Academy Walker? Feel free to comment below or join our Discord channel (Discord) and share your favourite synergies with us!
