Update v0.434 - 11 New Quirks and Small Fixes

There are 11 new quirks that are randomly distributed to gladiators:
  1. Heavy Drinker
  2. Fitness Addict
  3. Fast Wits
  4. Slow Wits
  5. Restless Curse
  6. Restless Gift
  7. Energy Channeler
  8. Chicken
  9. Young Vampire
  10. Old Vampire
  11. Frenzied


[h3]Fixes:[/h3]
  • Gladiators can't have two same quirks at the same time.
  • Empty item slots in battle scene were missing sprite. Now fixed.











Update v0.429 - Quirks affecting gladiator cost, new quirks art, and bug fixes

-Quirk placeholder icons are replaced with final icons.


Gladiator cost is no longer randomized. Now it depends on two factors:
  • How many arenas have you have beaten. If you are at arena 1 and there is level 3 gladiator, it will be very expensive because average enemy gladiator is level 1 at this point. But once you reach arena where gladiator level 3 is average enemy gladiator, then new level 3 gladiators in shop will be less expensive.
  • Positive or Negative Quirks multiply or divide the price. For example gladiator with negative quirk Heavy Smoker will cost 30% less, while gladiator with positive quirk Last Stand will be 20% more expensive.

    Before this we had a huge problem where you'd start the game and if most of the quirks in gladiator shop are negative the game would just be too hard to play. While now, if most quirks are negative those gladiators are also less expensive. So you might be able to buy higher level gladiator or make it up with buying some items for remaining gold.


For faster browsing thought shop and enemy lists, quirks are now visible on roll over pop-up together with items.


And several minor bug fixes.

V 0.427 - Quality of Life, Polishing and Bug Fixing

- Now you can roll over unit during battle preparation and see a pop up with items. Before this, you could see this pop up only while rolling over icon. Now that we have consumable items, this is very useful to quickly check what units have free slots.


- Ability pop up in Unit Info Panel now show name of ability together with cooldown percentage.
- In buff roll over panel, duration stat is added (for buffs that have duration like Knockdown or Freeze)
- Added Surrender button while battle is in progress.
- Ability description was not showing duration stat correctly for some abilities like Frost Bolt. Now it’s accurate and it’s also dynamic stat so it can increase or decrease with certain stat (like Strength in this example).


-Most Quirk icons are updated, but there are still some that are missing.


- Surrender button is added on left button part of the screen. It's a current solution for those impossible situations where units get stuck chasing each other. But we're considering some additional solutions for the problem as well.
-Many of you have been complaining about Priestess being too powerful with her short cooldowns and that it was an easy way to beat the game. So Priestess cooldowns for Heal and Shield abilities are doubled (starting values are increased to 8 second, from previous 4 seconds). But the amount of health of heal and shield are 40% higher in order to still keep her useful.
-Quirk descriptions are additionally polished to fit some rules like: Only conditional text is underlined. As well as some color adjustments for stats.


-Gladiators AI targeting tweak - Gladiators used to take into calculation level of other gladiators and prioritise higher levels (amongst dozen other things) but it caused situations where for example Archer will target a knight level 2 instead of archer that is level 1 only because the knight is higher level. We tested it out and now she prioritizes smarter. We hope it will make gladiators a bit more predictable. But if this causes other unpredictable behaviours that we didn’t notice in our testing please let us know.


[h2]Bugs Fixed:[/h2]
- Clicking on other gladiators through unit info panel disabled.
- Rock Imp's Throw Rock ability localization text fixed.
- Unlock slots for items in hostile units fixed.
- Lonely particle effect above the temple arena removed.
- Bridge arena environment animations inside black screen removed.
- If you zoom in after Victory Animation pops up the screen would sometime disappear. Now fixed.
- Real-time abilities popUp used to stay on screen when you click on a gladiator. Now fixed.
- Localization problem for buffs and debuffs gained from gladiators in a battle like priest's shield, invigorator's buff, hunter's trap, berserker's kick, cryomancer's frost bolt is now fixed.
-There is special kind of buffs that take over control of the gladiator (Knockdown, terror...). Those were not being shown in buff (quirks) list. Now they are.
- All projectiles now disappear as soon as the battle ends. We had problems with hunters trap staying after the battle.

Quirks, Consumable Items, Real Time Ability Stats And More In Update 0.425

Quirks

Gladiators can now have a few random quirks assigned to them. Positive, negative or dependent on situation.
Thing to keep in mind about quirks is that art is still under development. So right now we have random sketches that don’t even match what quirks are (since they are barely visible as sketches). But soon we’ll replace them with actual icons that are on their way.

We currently have 16 quirks and more are on their way.

Consumable Items

Consumable items are consumed after the battle is finished. They are much cheaper and more frequent then ordinary items. Goal of this feature is to give more options for preparation before the battle starts.


Real Time Ability Stats

Now by clicking or rolling over gladiator we’ll be able to see what ability gladiator is using, what ability is on cooldown, and if some ability is lacking stamina to be used.

Also by opening gladiator panel we can see their stats in real time.

This was important because Quirks are now changing stats and affecting gladiators in crucial ways.


Other

-Gladiators in shop that are much higher level than predicted for that stage of your progress are way more expensive. Before, it was very easy to win the first arena by buying level 3 gladiators while enemy teams expect you to have level 1 gladiators. Now if you want to buy a really strong gladiator it will cost much more.
On the other hand, game is a bit easier because there are now affordable consumable items that you can use to your advantage.
-We risen number of item slots from 4 to 6.
-They do not unlock automatically anymore. Now they cost a small amount of gold.



What is Next?

-First we want to polish up the current quirk system (make them unlock with new arenas, balance positive and negative ones so there is not much unfair situations)
-Add new quirks.
-In shop we want to make gladiators price depend on quality of quirks and add discounts feature.
-Show quirks on unit roll over.
-Show gladiators target on unit roll over.
-Item rarity feature (Each item will have 4 different rarity versions, making it stronger or weaker version of itself)
-Fix few known and probably more unknown bugs.
-Polish and balance game some more.

Updates will be more frequent in next several weeks. But after all that is done we are moving towards next big update that will include:
-Real time passing
-New gladiator stats like Morale, Fame and Monthly Wages.
-Guild with fixed building locations, options to train gladiators to learn new abilities, resurrect them, heal injuries, regain morale, and more.
-Quests and Events that will occur between championships which will be available every 15 days.

Real Time Info For Abilities and Stats In Battle, Consumable Items (Only Info)

Game is broken apart because of the new updates so we can not update beta on steam right away. Although we are planing to do so by end of the month. But here are the current updates to keep you guys in loop:

-Gladiators now have 6 inventory slots instead of 4.
-After every 5 levels, slots do not unlock automatically but you need to purchase them (For a pretty small cost. Mostly to add feeling of satisfaction while unlocking them)
-Now we have consumable items as well. They can be placed in any empty slot. And after the battle is over, the consumable item will disappear (it will be consumed during the battle).

- Damage and Stamina combat text problem with moving camera is solved.

[h2]Real Time Info [/h2]

-Gladiator stats are now shown in real time during battle. For example if health is lost and you click on unit it will show 150/200 health. Same for other stats like 120/100 Strength after the gladiator gained +20 Strength buff.
-When you hover gladiators, their abilities will now show cooldowns or be greyed out if there is not enough stamina. If you open Unit Info Panel and roll over ability it will tell you exact information why ability is unavailable.
-When you roll over gladiators you will see their ability cooldowns, as well as the abilities that are currently used.
-There is a checkmark that activates all the gladiator ability info pop ups at all times.

Quirks (buffs and debuffs) are next on the list. So it was important to implement this feature first, in order to see the buffs and debuffs in the game as well once they are finished.
