Why won't multiplayer be in Pathogesis: Overcome?

As promised, some info and answers to questions.
And the very first question is especially exciting and challenging from time to time since the announcement of the game:
- Will there be multiplayer or at least co-op?
- Will not. And I explain why. Read next.

Why won't multiplayer be in Pathogesis: Overcome?
Multiplayer and co-op is very cool and fun, but in the game Pathogenesis: Overcome it will not be in any form. Not at launch, not at release, not after release. For one simple reason - Multiplayer is not a feature or a mechanic, it's a separate genre. And we need to create a game from the very beginning, taking into account the characteristics of the genre. Balance, mechanics, systems, architecture - everything should be designed and created taking into account the fact that you will not be alone in the game world, but someone else at the same time.

Why can't we add it later?
Of course we can add it later, so that it is. But I think it's a bad idea. A crutch that will not bring joy to anyone, but will hang "yeap in general, it is here."

Why didn't you include multiplayer from the beginning?
Because this requires at least an appropriate specialist - an Multiplayer Engineer who knows how to use servers, clients, pings, synchronous and other online stuff. And I didn't have such a specialist, and still don't have one. And I won’t be able to take him to my team now, even if I know where such people are found. Budget does not allow yet. The specialist and online systems development need a lot of money.

So what? And when will that be?
I have a lot of ideas on co-op and multiplayer mechanics. As soon as there is an opportunity, we will immediately implement it. But in a different game. If the success of the first will allow.

Steam Early Access December 27, 2022

After thinking hard, I made a decision:
- December 27, 2022 Pathogenesis: Overcome in Early Access on Steam.

And the main question:
What will be the version of the game at the Start of Early Access. Read carefully!

A. We have completely redesigned all systems, made significant changes to the gameplay mechanics and added optimizations that we definitely need feedback from you.

B. (Don't panic!) There will be no story and quests at the start. And RPG with Survival. I'll explain why:
- I completely rewrote the plot, all the quests, the correlation of factions, the motives of the characters and significantly reworked the level design. So we need to carefully check and fix all the bugs. What we can't do before early access. As soon as we complete it, we will upload a big update. Survival and RPG systems is a global superstructure that affects all other systems, events and actions and will be added last.

C. So, what will be available at the start:
- Looting. I think this is clear at all.
- Exploring. Loot will not collect itself. And to add more freedom of exploring, we added parkour!
- Shooting. To fend off those who disturb you from exploring and looting calmly.
- AI. Individuals who are the cause of the disturbance. against which all shooting or running away will have to be applied.
- Other systems: inventory, weapon customization, interactive and more.

D. In short, at the start, the game will be kind of top down sandbox looter-shooter in open location.

Well, after the release, we will begin to collect feedback (which we expect from you) and add systems and content step by step according to the plan. I will post the roadmap in a conspicuous place.
Also, before Early Access, I will introduce all gameplay mechanics and features with regular posts.

Pre New Year Progress Report

I`ll highlight the main points:
- Completely redesigned camera controls. Now the classic behavior is combined with the dynamic one in order to use it conveniently according to the situation.
- The character's motion capabilities are totally expanded:
Instant Dodges if there is a sudden surprise? Easy!
Parkour system If you want to live, but there are no straight ways.
- Protagonist is a firearm enthusiast, but if you run out of ammo, this isn't a reason to give up and panic (well, maybe quite a bit). Stunning kick and trusty cold steel will help to get ammo and clear your way.
Next on the finalization plan are the firearms and covering mechanics. Which are also significantly redesigned. Stay tuned!
