Circuit Superstars Online Improvements Beta

Hello fellow racers!

Good news! Today, we will be opening a Public Beta branch for you to test the latest improvements to the online play of Circuit Superstars.

As you know, during Patch v.0.2.0, we addressed sync issues. Making "great" feeling netcode is an art. In our pursuit to remove sync issues we diverged the recipe too far from the "secret sauce" that made racing feel great before. This is the most important part of the game, the "core" feel. Making this feel right has been our top priority, and we are happy to invite you to test the new system during our public beta, which will run from today, Wednesday June 2nd to Sunday, June 6th. During this time, we hope that all of you who have been wanting to get back to the racetrack and race competitively will hop behind the wheel and let us know about your experience.

Given that we are testing these improvements, we will be holding off on our Patch v.0.3.0. Our plan is to include this latest update once it has been tested by you, the community.

What to expect:
 • Significantly smoother gameplay and driving feel.
 • Reduced experience of corrections when you have not collided with other players.
 • During collisions, you will experience short-term corrections as the server reconciles what happened, this is to be expected at this time, especially for when there is a group of players colliding at high speeds. (Clean driving = less corrections!)
How to participate:
 • Go to the Circuit Superstars title in your Steam Library
 • Right click and select Properties
 • Go to Betas
 • Select junebeta from the dropdown
TL;DR:
 • Public Beta with online gameplay improvements opens TODAY
 • Beta will be available from Wednesday June 2nd to Sunday, June 6th.
 • Things might be a bit quiet initially as people learn about the beta and sign up, in the meantime, you can use Discord to find lobbies to join!
 • Join the official Circuit Superstars Discord Server. to give feedback and coordinate to play with other players.

Excited to see you on the racetrack!
Thank you for reading. OFG Team

Weekly Update - May 27th 2021

Hello, fellow racers!

These updates make us feel like weeks fly by! It reminds us of our childhood and youth years, in which going to school was what happened while we waited to get back to the race track on the weekend. When we were competing in karting, our mom and dad would pick us up early on Friday, with the car and our little trailer all packed up with the karts, wheels and tools all ready to go. Setting up our pit would be almost a ritual of Friday night / Saturday morning, as well as walking along the track. All of these memories are what inspired us to create the weekly rotation of events, since that is the experience we are aiming to recreate.

So, where are you headed this weekend? Here are your options!
Weekly Rotation

Online Events
• Eurotrucks- Whistle Valley
 • GTs - Maple Ridge
 • Muscle Cars - Mini Tournament
Time Trials
• Super Trucks - Tilksport Rally Cross
 • Superlights - Sugar Hill
 • 60s GP- Magdalena short
Development Update
We are still in the process of improving the online gameplay feel after our last patch (v.0.2.0). We wanted to share a short reflection on where we are at.

The online aspects of our game are among the most difficult challenges of game development, more so for a fast and competitive game. We are very close to achieving something unbelievably ambitious, because we know it will be unbelievably fun and that's why we are making this game. At times, our efforts will not achieve what we intended, nothing good is ever easy. Failing is an invitation to learn, change direction, grow, it's not an end from which we need to backout of, its something we need to go through, avoiding it won't get us where we are going. We like this quote form Sarah Lewis: "failing is learning to stand where we would rather not and expand in ways we never knew we could.” We certainly learned a lot in the last update, and we will work hard to integrate what we learned so we don't repeat mistakes.

We don't take this community and your engagement for granted, we want to get to our dream version of this game as fast as we can, and the only thing we can reassure you of is that this means as much to us as it does to you. Hang on!
What we are working on Now:
• Online racing feel improvements.
 • Internal testing / iteration of new Single Player experience (previously Arcade).
 • Strong focus on console porting.
 • New tracks in development.
What we will be working on Next:
• UI iteration for Single Player experience screen.
 • Car tuning on new cars.
 • Control rebinding and controller assignment in settings (Dev on this was paused temporarily to focus on Online improvements).
Development Update
We wanted to thank everyone who has been playing and sharing their experiences through Early Access. This continues to be immensely helpful in enabling us to understand where the game is at and what we need to prioritize. Secondly, we wanted to acknowledge that, while update v.0.2.0 addressed the major sync issues that were being frequently experienced in online play, the update also has had an impact in the overall gameplay feel of the online experience.

The purpose of this update was to address sync issues, which we have done. Making "good" feeling netcode is an art. In our pursuit to remove sync issues we may have diverged the recipe too far from the "secret sauce" that made racing feel great before. This is the most important part of the game, the "core" feel. We'll be working hard to make this feel right again!
What we are working on Now:
• Online racing feel improvements.
 • Key game art.
 • Strong focus on console porting.
 • New tracks in development.
What we will be working on Next:
• Car tuning on new cars.
 • Internal testing of new Single Player experience (previously Arcade).
 • Control rebinding and controller assignment in settings (Dev on this was paused temporarily to focus on Online improvements).
 • Localisation pass (thank you for your reports!)

Early Access Patch v.0.2.0

There are special kinds of bonds, friendships, that are born through the love of racing. Whether it’s being rivals on the racetrack, or friends hanging out in the paddock, or cousins regularly getting together on a Saturday night for a Gene Rally tournament, or Circuit Superstars fans on Discord helping each other out. These bonds and the experiences that arise from them are what we set out to achieve when we started making Circuit Superstars. This is a goal that we will continue to move towards, and today’s patch marks a big milestone on that goal. So, call your friends, teammates and your rivals: Circuit Superstars is getting social!

For this second patch to our Early Access, we put a strong focus on improving the online racing experience, from improvements to synchronisation, to addressing Time Trial exploits, to adding ways for you to group up with your friends to play or join other members of the community and make new racing friends. We are very excited to put this update forward. Read on for details about what you can expect!

Online
Friend Lobbies
Since before we shipped Circuit Superstars, we knew this would be a much requested feature. As a small team, it has been an ongoing challenge to balance our priorities, and online group lobbies was not a small challenge to tackle. But we heard your requests, and we are so happy to bring you this update! We can’t wait to hear what you think, and more importantly, we can’t wait to see you with your friends on the racetrack!
Details:
• You are now able to group up with friends to matchmake together by creating or joining a lobby.
 • Groups enter the matchmaking queue as a unit, matching against other groups or solo players that are also queuing.
 • This feature works with the existing public online events, and is not yet a functionality for private lobbies.
Online Synchronization Improvements
We made several improvements to the general experience of playing online, some of which include (but are not limited to):
 • More reliable synchronization across all players, this means that players should not encounter races in which their cars or the cars of others don’t get synchronized.
 • Players should no longer experience other cars not moving.
 • Much better experience of racing in sub-optimal conditions (such as matching with players far from your region).
 • Less teleportation or gauges not responding.
Gameplay
Ghosts Design Revisions
We made improvements to implementing how ghosts are triggered based on proximity. This recent change makes them more reliable, and players can expect to trust the system a lot more.
Adjustments to existing penalties
Since we now have penalties for more than just corner-cutting, we made adjustments to the penalty notifications to be more descriptive about what caused the penalty.
Wall Riding Repercussions
Wall riding now can either cause damage or trigger a penalty, depending on whether damage is enabled. This change will help maintain sportsmanship in time trials, while also discouraging wall riding during races.
Adjusted track limit penalties
Based on community discoveries, we made adjustments to the tracks where corner cutting was possible.

Content
New track - Tilksport
A beach oasis surrounded by fresh-water lakes, our longest track yet, Tilksport is a fast and complex track full of challenges for racers to master.

With 3 different routes, racers will find in Tilksport opportunities to test their off-road and on-road skills with a variety of cars and competitions.
Other
• Several UI legend upgrades for readability.
 • Integrated automatic bug tracking functionality into the game to help us make your experience as flawless as possible
 • Integrated a fix for some occurrences of the “red exclamation mark” startup crash.

We can’t wait to see what you think of this update. Thank you to all the players that signed up to our 2 latest betas and provided feedback on their experience. We hope you know that not only we value your testing; we rely on it to make the improvements we have made.

We’re always looking over your requests and suggestions and use them to help inform our NOW & NEXT list. Tell us what you think of the update with everyone else in Discord Server ( Discord link here ) and in the Steam Forums.

Thank you for showing your love and support for Circuit Superstars!
