JDM: Rise of the Scorpion Content Update

Ossu,

Over the past few weeks, we've been hard at work preparing the latest major update for the free prologue, JDM: Rise of the Scorpion. In this devlog, we’ll walk you through the new fixes, features, and some exciting upcoming news.

One of the key updates was transitioning JDM: Rise of the Scorpion to the JDM: Japanese Drift Master Steam page, where it will remain available as a free-to-play prologue-demo.
Now, let's dive into the details of the changes included in the latest update:

Additions:
• Online Leaderboards in Challenge Mode. Both the grip and drift challenges will have their own active Leaderboards. The players will see them after a finished race, or they can be accessed anytime from the Challenge Menu > Leaderboards. On the leaderboard tables, you will be able to check various stats for the score, including what car was used and what assists were turned on. It’s time to show who is the real king of Guntama streets!
  • Three new cars were added to the Challenge Mode. All of them have been mechanically and visually tuned for the occasion:
    - Mazda RX8,
    - Mazda MX-5 (NA),
    - Subaru BRZ II.
  • Added a new input preset for the Moza R5 Steering Wheel.
  • Added HGP Shifter and HBP Handbrake to supported devices.
Check out the teaser introducing new car models now available in Challenge Mode:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Fixes:
• Fixed issues that blocked input swapping between the devices. Now you can freely use any connected input interchangeably.
  • Fixed a critical issue where input would hard lock in the client after unplugging your steering wheel, completely locking you out of input control over the game. Unplugging a device will no longer be an issue, and the game will switch to another connected device on the first button press.
  • Fixed the issues when using the steering wheel to move around the in-game menus. D-Pad, as well as command confirmations, cancels, etc., should now work as expected. You can now use your steering wheel without the need to pick up a gamepad or keyboard.
  • Fixes to the driving gear physics and suspension for all cars in the Challenge mode.
  • Additional minor tweaks and fixes across the game.

Thank you for your support during the launch and updates of JDM: Rise of the Scorpion. We hope you've enjoyed your time exploring the streets of the world we're building. There's plenty of exciting news coming your way about the full version of JDM: Japanese Drift Master, so stay tuned!

Let's Summarize the Prologue!

Ossu,

We've made a small update to the JDM: Japanese Drift Master Steam page! The free-to-play prologue, JDM: Rise of the Scorpion, is now available in the demo section. This update provides a more unified experience, making it easier for you to access the game and any other JDM information directly from one place.

If you’ve missed the premiere of JDM: Rise of the Scorpion, below you will find a rundown of what to expect from our Prologue-Demo.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
MANGA AND STORY
This free-to-play prologue is a unique introduction to the narrative of JDM: Japanese Drift Master. Meet Hatori Hasashi, an exemplary student from a traditional Japanese family, now determined to make a name for himself on the racetrack. Follow his rise to become the feared ‘Scorpion’ as he faces off against a variety of tough rivals.

Immerse yourself in a racing game that emphasizes story-driven gameplay with a unique narrative style. Instead of traditional cutscenes, the story comes to life through manga pages, offering a fresh way to experience the narrative. Characters and places portrayed in JDM: Rise of the Scorpion will return in the full version of the game.
LICENSED CARS
Gradually upgrade Hatori’s car and make it as fast and fierce as a scorpion’s strike. Experiment with different modifications, then put its performance to the test by racing through tight city streets and winding mountain passes against other skilled drivers.

Additionally, you’ll have the chance to test drive different cars, accessible after visiting the dealership from the open world, such as licensed Nissan, Subaru, and Mazda models.
EVENTS + CHALLENGE MODE
In JDM: Rise of the Scorpion, you’ll take on a variety of story-driven events and quests designed to push your driving skills to the limit. Whether it’s drift races, grip challenges, or intense drift battles, you’ll face off against tough competitors and prove your skills on the road.

If you want to test different car models on closed tracks try out the newly added single-player Challenge Mode. Choose from stock vehicles or fine-tuned models for specific challenges. Whether you're chasing the best drift score or racing to be the fastest, this mode pushes your skills to the limit with Drift and Grip challenges. Face off against AI rivals, and continue refining your driving abilities.
LOCATIONS
The story of JDM: Rise of the Scorpion takes players to the fictional Japanese prefecture of Guntama - a place inspired and re-created from real-world locations. This area is filled with challenging roads, perfect for mastering your drifting techniques. Explore the scenic Tengai Forest and cruise through Kiko Town, where the heart of the story unfolds.

The dynamic weather system introduces an unpredictable element to the racing experience, and with the cycle of day and night, every ride becomes unique. Whether you're drifting under the cover of darkness with the glow of local shop lights or at sunrise, each moment presents a different challenge and adventure.
SUPPORT AND TIPS
We've put together a guide with solutions for the most common issues. Take a look to see if you can find a fix for the problem you're experiencing. If not, feel free to reach out to us via email at [email protected] or join our Discord server to report bugs and issues through the dedicated channels.
DRIVING ASSISTS:
Since the demo, we’ve expanded the amount of driving assist options available to you. Some of them are now disabled when launching the game for the first time, so we’ve put together some essential information on what they do and what we recommend. While certain parameters may seem complex, our goal is to help you fine-tune your experience to best suit your style.

  • ABS - Enhances braking and helps to maintain control during turns. Recommended to keep ‘ON’ for improved driving stability.
  • TCS - Prevents wheel skidding. Turn ‘OFF’ when drifting for better skid control.
  • ESP - Helps to prevent loss of vehicle control. Recommended ‘OFF’ unless you’re roaming the open world or in situations where you want the car to keep steady on the track at all costs.
  • Gearbox - Adjusts the gearbox control type. Modify according to your driving preference.
  • Gamepad & Keyboard assist - Limits the car’s front axle twisting, making it easier to control via gamepad and keyboard. Turn ‘ON’ for gamepads and keyboard, and ‘OFF’ when using a steering wheel.
CRASHES:
If you get an error on launch, in which OPENXR is mentioned, please do the following: remove the openxr_loader.dll file

You can find the file in the following folder: ProgramFiles(x86) > Steam > SteamApps > Common > JDMrots > Engine > Binaries > ThirdParty > OpenXR
PERFORMANCE ISSUES:
We're looking into performance issues some of you have been reporting; If you meet the game's requirements and experience low performance, please reach out to us at: [email protected]. In the email please provide more information on your hardware specs, information on your in-game graphical settings, and information if the issues persist at all times or are only present in certain situations or locations. Also, please include a dxdiag file.

How to obtain a dxdiag file:
  • Press the windows button on your keyboard
  • Type dxdiag and hit enter
  • Wait for the diagnostic tool to gather data and press save all information
  • Attach the created .txt file to the email

We need as much information as possible to understand where the issue is coming from and create a fix.
STUTTERING ISSUE:
We are aware of an issue where some AMD CPUs (most observed in the 5000 series) have a stuttering issue in JDM, which is caused by their PBO (Precision Boost Overdrive) function. If you use such a CPU, and you're experiencing frame stuttering/lag - turning that function off could help reduce or even get rid of the problem entirely.

If you're using AMD Adrenalin software you should turn off this function from automatically triggering, and additionally, you can also turn it off in BIOS:

To turn it off.
BIOS: Settings --> AMD OverClocking --> Precision Boost Overdrive

We’re actively working on a solution to this issue, but it may take more time to resolve it. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we sort it out.
STEERING WHEEL SETTINGS:
We added presets for various steering wheels including Fanatec V2, Logitech G29, Logitech G920, Thrustmaster T150, Thrustmaster T300, and Thrustmaster T500.

Go to Settings > Control > Steering wheel > Choose the preset.

If you have different gear at home do not fret - we have you covered. You can custom bind almost anything through our custom binding feature. We’ve prepared a short video tutorial on how to customize keybindings for your hardware. Please watch it if you’re having trouble setting up your steering wheel.
