Thessaly Pherae

The civil war in Thessaly will only be decided by the blood of its people.
Tester’s tips
Pherae is definitely one of the more difficult factions.

The state is involved in a civil war with the Thessalian League which draws all of your resources away. This war gives you no rest until one or other of the factions is defeated. Pherae is also quite unpopular among the other Greek states so you had better watch your back!

I always try to make peace with as many factions as possible to eliminate the number of potential enemies. Offer them free gifts, agree to their proposals, you are in no position to make demands until you bring the situation in your own state under control.

It’s an adrenaline surge from the start.

Achaemenid Empire

The Persian Empire is wealthy and powerful but maintaining control over its key provinces is a task for a master strategist.
Tester’s tips
Achaemenid Empire has a unique position as the master in a confederation of several large provinces which offers interesting choices and challenges right from the start.

Managing such a large landlocked state is not easy and objectives can provide clues as to where to focus your attention, e.g. access to a port for trading. My initial approach is to produce enough food to ensure self-sufficiency, build economic improvements in cities to get more gold and link mines to the nearest city by road to improve production. Building roads between all of your assets is necessary to ensure that units can travel to any trouble spots quickly.

Diplomacy and bribery with your provinces may keep them in the confederation, but there is every chance they will want to go alone. If the confederation crumbles then it is up to you to defend your territory and to retake any renegade provinces.

One of the benefits of this state is that it often receives free subsidies and troops from the Eastern part of the Empire. The Eastern troops often have the self-sufficiency improvement. This makes them invaluable for independent operations across the whole land mass because they do not suffer from a lack of supply.

The Empire requires attention on many fronts and neglecting any one may ruin your plans. It is definitely an interesting and challenging setting.

DevUpdate - Multiplayer is up and running

Hi All,
we have great news!

This was an extremely busy month. Every working hour was dedicated to the implementation of multiplayer.
Hotseat
Our first priority was setting up hotseat especially for family gamers and friends. For those who like to join forces to fight against common enemies from the comfort of their sofa, hotseat games will be the perfect opportunity for leisure game evenings. You can enjoy the game on a large screen in your living room, making your way together through the lands of ancient Greece.

Hotseat is not tailored just for leisure players it can also accommodate competitive players. Those who want to play alongside friends but not necessarily "with" them. Turns are separated by a special screen so that players can change seats without revealing all their cards to other players.
Online multiplayer
Following the successful test runs of hotseat, we started working on an online multiplayer, primarily designed for friends in the virtual world. We introduced a time limit per turn to make sure that all players have equal time to plan their strategy and actions and to ensure a good pace.

What, you don't mind a slow pace? Well, it’s possible to turn off the time limit per turn and grant your opponents whatever time they need.
What to do when one of the players must leave the game? They can easily be replaced with another player or even an AI player.
What if someone new wants to join the game? This is possible too, Imperiums online multiplayer is a robust system that handles all these situations and more!
Playing by email
Next we created an asynchronous multiplayer, also known "Playing by email" (PBEM) for players in different time zones who prefer this option. It is possible to set a time limit per turn, swap players and use all of the other settings that online multiplayer offers in PBEM as well. This can all be done without any email registration or logging into an external system as is common in other games. It is possible to open a game for the public, just for your Steam friends or protected with a password.

But the best is saved for the end!

It is possible to play both online multiplayer and PBEM in combination with hotseat. That means, you can start a hotseat game with your friend on one screen at your home and invite other friends from across the world to join you to make the war for dominance even more interesting. Get ready... this ride will end with the morning light!
