Dev Log
DSS was originally planned as a hobby project, but after over a year of unemployment, I decided to go professional and give it a shot on the market.
I've been reading up on game marketing and have spent a significant part of development making the game more appealing — improving the HUD and allowing city defenses to be built freely, anywhere on the map.
That said, I know I'm working in the "ugly but deep" category of games, so most of the marketing will focus on the demo (coming next month).

Other new features include:
 • Three times more resources, buildings, and soldier types
 • Skills and a technology tree
 • A new villain introduces horde waves
 • Tactical controls during battle
 • (Maybe multiplayer)

Dev blog - new UI
Development
Whenever I ask playtesters about the game, they only talk about the menu. I want to focus on the gameplay, but have finally given in to the pressure.

I have also been working on more options for those who like city building.
Update cancelled
I have cancelled the April update (which contained three times as many resources). The menus got way too bloated and complex. This is also the reason I started a full rework of the UI. The next update is planned for September. I know the updates are too infrequent, but paying playtesters before each release is a cost I need to keep down. Join the beta if you want to try the latest stuff.
Music crash failure
I made a big mess-up: I updated the game engine (monogame) and there was a new DLL file, for playing music, that I missed adding to the Steam installation. I heard nothing for a few weeks, but one day I suddenly got a flood of crash reports. Steam had featured DSS in the RTS festival, and that was weird because I clicked "NO" to participate. Thousands of new players downloaded the game, and it crashed instantly for all of them!

- This was my first blog, let me know if I should do more.

Ogg music stream crash fix

I have updated the game with a workaround. The music crash is muted and will instead keep playing without music
I still don't know why it crashes, it only happens to some users, and it seems to depend on the windows .net framework.

Small engine update

 • Updated to .net8
 • Added steam stats to collect user data

New Year Patch + XP Update Dev Log
Update change log
• Fixed city selection during building
 • Easy mode starts with extra money
 • Displays missing resources in cities
Dev log
Been working on a huge content update that will triple the amount of resources, buildings, and soldier types. It all centers around experience and upgrades. My goal is to reward specializing your cities into a medieval industry; which hopefully should make city management much more interesting.
