Version 2.5 Now Available: Lost in the Swirling Haze

A few Invaders have found treasures on the Island, and they are determined to bring home their loot for riches and glory. However, as they make their way to the shore, they become Lost in the Swirling Haze, never to be seen again… The sixth phase of Jagged Earth content is now available with a new Spirit and Scenario.



Shroud of Silent Mist: A Spirit of dissolution and the cold silence of death, creeping quietly down from the hills and across the open waters. Its trail is adorned with dew-covered leaves and the bones of small animals. Some legends say it came from the final breath of a Dahan Spirit-speaker who spoke too freely of secrets entrusted to him…

Despicable Theft: Small groups of Invaders have been searching the island, and a few have found wonders. If they make it home, their people will stop at nothing to seek out more such fantastic treasures. Even those without wonders have tales and trophies that may bolster the Invaders’ resolve to stay.

[h2]Multiplayer Plumbing Improvements[/h2]
We have been working to improve the multiplayer workings of the game to eliminate synchronization issues. Spirit Island has many complex rule interactions, and allowing players to do things simultaneously yet still remain in sync with each other is a challenging and ever-evolving task!

To support this we have updated the networking libraries and reworked the Full Sync feature to be more reliable. Ideally you would never need to use Full Sync, but if you run into a problem, we want to make sure your game can continue.

Remember, if you run into a problem in a multiplayer game, please report it in-game using the Help & Feedback button at the time it occurs (and before trying Undo or Full Sync). It also helps a lot if everyone in the game sends a report, so we can see the situation from all angles. That gives us the best chance to solve the problem sooner!

We are planning to add support for saving multiplayer games to continue later, but that feature is not yet available. Stay tuned!

[h2]Other improvements and bug fixes[/h2]
  • Informational messages are now shown in the game log so you can review them at your leisure.
  • The text of Elemental Invocation is updated to read that land corners are "at an intersection of 3+ lands/Oceans, or of 2+ lands/Oceans and the board edge." This means that in new games from now on, there are no longer land corners on solitary lands at the intersection of 2+ board sides.
  • Sacred Sites Under Threat now highlights lands with Sacred Sites and Invaders, and indicates how many lands have them and how much Energy you would need to spend to damage them all.
  • If Explosive Eruption has a damage boost (e.g. from Flame's Fury), the boost can now apply in any land where the Power is dealing damage.
  • Infestation of Venomous Spiders now deals damage properly in lands joined together by Weave Together the Fabric of Place.
  • Elemental Boon now lets you decide what elements it has when discarded as a randomizer for some Events.
  • Fixed an issue where the game could get stuck using Firestorm against Russia 2+ if you push an Explorer to another of your lands where you can deal damage.
  • Volcano Looming High's special rule range increase now properly combines with Exaltation of Molten Stone.
  • Fixed an issue with Carapaced Land's range increase interacting incorrectly with Volcano Looming High's special rule range increase.
  • Fixed an issue where cards could disappear from view in Time Passes when choosing them for Gift of Constancy.
  • Fixed an issue where if a Russian Explorer was Drowned by a Power and pushed into the Ocean via A Sense for Impending Disaster, escaping drowning using A Sense for Impending Disaster again did not generate Fear.
  • Gift of Twinned Days now works properly with Powers that play additional Power Cards.
  • When Devouring Teeth uses Call to Bloodshed to gather Dahan in Dahan Insurrection, additional damage will no longer be incorrectly dealt in other lands.
  • Never Heard From Again no longer causes a multiplayer desync against Russia 5+.
  • Fixed Carapaced Land not allowing you to target the proper lands in some situations.
  • Fixed Pyroclastic Bombardment interacting incorrectly with Badlands in some situations.
  • Undoing after gaining two Power Cards with Exaltation of Tangled Growth no longer causes you to lose the second Power Card.
  • Blight on France's Slow-Healing Ecosystem now returns to the Blight Card for the next game in Second Wave.
  • Fixed an issue where repeating Forsake Society to Chase After Dreams could cause the game to get stuck in multiplayer.
  • Trees Radiate Celestial Brilliance now deals enough damage with its threshold when used with Unlock the Gates of Deepest Power.

What's New in Version 2.4.3

This update has a few improvements and bug fixes, including:
  • Tutorial popups are now shown in the game log so you can review them while going through the tutorial.
  • The Card Library now has progress indicators for achievements related to winning with Spirits, defeating Adversaries, and triumphing in Scenarios.
  • Sharp Fangs Behind the Leaves and Thunderspeaker no longer cause multiplayer desyncs when their Presence moves with Beasts/Dahan.
  • Fire and Flood will no longer cause a multiplayer desync when it is used with both elemental thresholds.
  • Fixed an issue where the game gets stuck when placing a Flame Marker in Rituals of Destroying Flame.
  • With the Promising Farmlands event, you can no longer avoid adding a Town by choosing a land with Wilds first.
  • Carapaced Land now works properly with Shadows of the Dahan.

What's New in Version 2.4.2

This update has several improvements and bug fixes, including:
  • You can now check exactly what Element Markers are affecting a land in Elemental Invocation by using Spirit Foresight.
  • If you reach more than one threshold of an innate power, and one of them has an Energy cost, you can now choose to not pay the Energy cost without having to manually disable the threshold.
  • Fixed the behavior of disabling elemental thresholds with Powered by the Furnace of the Earth.
  • The game no longer gets stuck when using Explosive Eruption in a land under the effect of Weave Together the Fabric of Place.
  • Fixed an issue where Explosive Eruption causes a Blight card with an immediate effect to flip, and using undo during the Blight card resolution may incorrectly destroy Presence again.
  • Entwined Power now interacts correctly with Volcanic Peaks Tower Over the Landscape.
  • Fixed an issue with Volcano Looming High's Peaks Tower Over the Landscape incorrectly interacting with other range increase effects, enabling powers to be used where they should not be able to be used.
  • When Memory Fades to Dust destroys Volcano Looming High's Presence, the special rule now properly triggers.
  • Fixed an issue with Explosive Eruption not interacting correctly with Isolate and Russia 2+.
  • Fixed exploit where undoing Gain Energy Growth options after placing an Element in Elemental Invocation could result in keeping the element without having paid for it.
  • Fixed a visual glitch affecting the text legibility in multiplayer chat.
  • Utter a Curse of Dread and Bone no longer causes the game to get out of sync in multiplayer.
  • Fixed Lure of the Deep Wilderness's gain Element growth option causing a desync in multiplayer.
  • Call to Guard no longer causes a multiplayer desync when used by Eyes Watch From the Trees.
  • Second Wave no longer gets stuck in multiplayer when setting up the next game.
  • Dissolution Threatens no longer makes unused Fast Powers become Slow on the same turn it comes into effect.
  • Fixed Dream of the Untouched Land not allowing you to skip a board for Habsburg's Escalation effect.
  • Untended Land Crumbles will no longer allow a Spirit to pay 1 or 2 Energy instead of 3.
  • Fixed an issue in which the Russia 2 effect could interfere with Badlands increasing damage when Dahan are moved in Dahan Insurrection.
  • Flame's Fury now interacts properly with Violent Windstorms in all situations.
  • Prey on the Unwary now adds Beasts when Many Mind Move As One's sacred site is chosen to not be treated as Beasts in a land with no other beasts.
  • Defending for the exact amount of base Invader Damage in a land with Badlands will no longer incorrectly result in Damage being dealt to the Dahan.
  • Storm-Swath now gains extra damage from Badlands correctly.


[h2]Mac Hotfix (Build 469)[/h2]
This fixes a problem on certain macOS systems where the game would not start up properly.

What's New in Version 2.4.1

This update has a few improvements and bug fixes, including:
  • Spirit Foresight now shows what Elements are affecting each land in Elemental Invocation.
  • The tutorial no longer gets stuck in the Spirit Phase.
  • The game no longer gets stuck against Brandenburg-Prussia 2+ when Command Beasts is revealed.
  • Powered by the Furnace of the Earth level 2 now properly appears on screen for use once you gain enough Energy to use it.
  • Pyroclastic Bombardment now allows you to assign extra Badlands damage to Explorers.
  • When dealing damage to Dahan with a Power, the Choose For Me button now destroys as few Dahan as possible.
  • Call to Trade does now works properly with Isolate - letting you decide whether or not to Gather a Town.
  • Fixed a problem where the game could get stuck when rejoining a multiplayer game after a crash.

Version 2.4 Now Available: Explosive Eruption

The deeper Spirits of vulcanism are too powerful and slow, too removed to respond to the Invaders − but not so this one. An Explosive Eruption splits the sky and the island is empowered by wellsprings of elemental essence. The fifth phase of Jagged Earth content is now available with a new Spirit and Scenario.



Volcano Looming High: A Spirit of fire and earth stretching upwards to the sky, casting a long and dangerous shadow across the land. It doesn’t dislike humans per se, but neither does it have much use for them, so the Dahan tend to keep away from it as much as possible. However, they sometimes end up dealing with its temper whether they want to or not…

Elemental Invocation: The Spirits can call forth wellsprings of essence to empower small areas of the island, strengthening and aligning nature with a particular element. This is fortunate, for the Invaders are encroaching more strongly than before.

[h2]Discord Game Invites[/h2]
When you're playing the game and Discord is open, it will show details about your game in progress. You can invite people to your multiplayer game using the "+" button in Discord, or right click on a friend to ask to join their game. You can find players on our official Handelabra Discord Server! [h2]Steam Game Recording[/h2]
The Steam Game Recording feature is available in the beta version of the Steam Client. Record your gameplay automatically in the background, view replays, and share clips. Spirit Island generates event markers as relevant game events happen.



Plus, this update includes many other improvements and bug fixes, including:
  • The game no longer gets out of sync in multiplayer when Many Minds Move As One is deciding if Sacred Sites count as Beasts in some situations.
  • The game no longer gets stuck in multiplayer against Russia 5+ when Lure of the Deep Wilderness generates enough Fear to reveal the unused Stage II Invader Card.
  • It is no longer possible to assign Damage to an Invader that was previously saved from being Destroyed earlier in the same action.
  • The game no longer gets stuck resolving Tall Tales of Savagery while Pour Time Sideways is in effect.
  • Scorch with Waves of Heat now properly performs its last threshold properly (1 Damage to each Invader) when used during the Rouse the Spirits event.
  • Search for New Lands now works properly with Pour Time Sideways.
  • Fixed an issue in which Command Beasts could be used repeatedly after each Fast Power is used.
  • Fixed Demoralized defending in the Ocean when the Ocean is not in play.
  • Fixed Nerves Fray allowing you to add Strife to a land that only matches the Ravage card because of Russia 3+.
  • Presence replaced from Gift of Untamed Wilds is now counted as Destroyed Presence.
  • Dahan Enheartened now properly allows you to gather Dahan into an Isolated land by default.
  • Destroying a Town in an Isolated land with Predatory Nightmares now lets you choose whether or not to push the Town based on what lands you mark as adjacent.
  • Fixed an issue with Sky Stretches To Shore affecting the reach of Favors Call Due improperly.
  • Call to Guard no longer incorrectly damages Dahan when they are moved along with Invaders.
  • Fixed an issue that stopped Serpent Slumbering Beneath The Island from choosing a second growth option in specific circumstances.
  • Stone's Unyielding Defiance no longer gets stuck only able to reposition Presence during growth in certain situations.
  • In Dahan Insurrection, if there are no Dahan on the Island, the game no longer gets stuck indicating a Sacrifice Victory but not ending.
  • Undoing Unrelenting Growth with threshold can no longer cause duplicate addition of Presence and Wilds and Blight removal.
  • When Resourceful Populace is in effect, the order of Ravages is no longer chosen automatically.
  • When Carapaced Land is repeated, the range increase for targeting a land with Beasts now works properly.
  • Fixed an issue where Confounding Mists did not allow you to push Towns added by Sweden 5.
  • River Surges In Sunlight's Presence in the Ocean now displays as a Sacred Site during power phases.
