Season 18 reaLEASED! FREE! (May 22, 2025)

Season 18 has RELEASED!

Just 2 weeks after Season 17 comes (spoiler) ... Season 18! 41 of the best episodes ever produced by hands. While things are definitely more challenging, the Unstuck Guarantee means you will overcome. The final episode includes some Bruce Springsteen lyrics, so you know it's going down.

The Season 18 trailer is solid gold. Be warned AI was the Elton John to my better-than-Taupin lyrics.

OMG OMG OMG
Legendary game developer and llama aficionado Jeff Minter unexpectedly played Endlight! For those not in-the-know: Jeff created games I played in 1983 on my C64 (Hover Bovver, Attack of the Mutant Camels, Matrix), honed Tempest to perfection, blew out eyeballs (long before Endlight) with Space Giraffe and Polybius, and in 2025 updated "I, Robot" for Atari. Many have described Endlight as Minter-esque, a high compliment indeed.

Jeff posted the following:

"Did you like Space Giraffe?
Then you probably ought to get this.
Play with a mouse.
Turn the chaos up to max.

The problem?
There's nothing left to live for.

50% Off + Major Updates + Season 17 (free)! Holey Moley!

Endlight is 50% off. Truly that's all you need to know but if not... after 78 years we've finally released SEASON 17 (free)! 41 new mind blowing levels, and 5 new snags: Cloudbursts, Portals, Popcorn, Sponges, and Growths. What's a snag? Even I don't know.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
We've ALSO improved EVERYTHING

  • Early, simpler levels are 40% faster.
Turns out the less chaotic early levels lacked the feeling of speed. A speed payers need. The speed increase did not make the levels harder. How is that possible? Because we manually adjusted those 250 early, simpler levels to make them easier - an arduous process that aged me greatly. Bonus: Some levels are now 5 times faster and impossible!

  • Invincibility no longer chaotic.
Players asked for the invincibility effects to be toned down and... they were so right! Being able to see where you're going while invincible is amazing, and we regret the initial "more chaos!" design decision. Tragically, this change made all the levels much easier. Manually adjusting ALL 600+ levels to make them harder (including the 250 I just made easier) nearly killed me.

  • The Greatest Moment
When player has no shields, and is shrinking away to nothing - if they get a hoop on the brink of death - it gives them FULL SHIELDS. Switching from near death to all powerful, suddenly turning the tables on all who doubted you, is the greatest moment in videogame history. Fight me.

  • Player state much clearer
Ship can be invincible (one hoop), double invincible (two hoops in a row), and shrinking to nothing (no hoops). With all the chaos, it was hard to see which state the ship was in. Now it's very clear - especially important when dealing with fire. You don't know what fire is? I envy you.

  • No Bullshit Deaths
On some levels, it was occasionally impossible to see the deadly, huge "background" cubes. Players would collide with them (instant death) and wonder what happened. Fixed! On those levels, when players collide with the huge cubes, they simply disappear. All the feeling, none of the bullshit. Even knowing this, I still dodge those huge cubes.

  • Snappier
Episodes start and restart much faster with less choppiness. We also tweaked vertex counts and draw distance on many episodes to ensure better performance with little visual loss. Plus many tiny performance improvements across the board.

  • Episode Improvements
Given all the changes, I was forced to QA all 600+ episodes once again. I removed anything that newly irritated me, made episodes more visually distinct, and added improvements that 2025 Jim had learned. Luckily most players have only completed Season 1!

  • Infected Hoops Onslaught
Infected hoops now appear in massive waves. It's very dangerous and very thrilling. You don't know what infected hoops are? I envy you.

  • Catching the Endlight
When you're outside, catching the Endlight instantly completes the episode even if you have no hoops. We added new and overlapping visual effects, and reduced collider size to ensure this was earned and not accidental. Catching the Endlight is truly the second greatest moment in videogame history. Fight me.

  • Season 17 Motivation
Season 17, 18, 19 and 20 are absolutely brilliant - but you can't start with them. You need the 16 Seasons of prep. We've added a ton of motivational messages to keep you going. We want everyone to reach Season 17 (and thanks to the Unstuck Guarantee, everyone will).

  • Miscellaneous
Right To Replay 2025 is now perfectly balanced - half the players will complete it this year! Achievements screen looks much better. More text, funnier text! Seasons 18, 19 and 20 (the final season) are ALREADY included in this update - so there will be no delays in releasing them. Endlight itself has a much improved pulsing effect - especially outside. The worst story in videogame history has been completed, finish Season 20 to read the entire thing - it's a work of art.

  • Bug Fixes
You never noticed the bugs we fixed, so who cares!

50% OFF during Swale, PC Magazine shoutout, Season 17 coming

Greetings lovers of quality entertainment, and lovers in general. Endlight is 50% off during Swale aka. Steam Winter Sale. Truly I am a word genius. Feel free to use Swale in Scrabble - I will back you up.

We are actively working on Season 17 and expect it to release in a few weeks. It's already the best Endlight season ever made, but we're making it even better. You haven't played Endlight until you've played Season 17. Meaning no-one has played Endlight yet. So what did people buy? I don't know.

And don't worry, we will be releasing Seasons 18, 19 and 20 in the next few months. Holy heck do you get a lot of bang for your buck. Thank gawd you can't replay levels.

2 weeks ago PC Magazine wrote this amazing followup. The article is titled "We have more levels than players" which was true at that time. The article generated so much attention I'm happy to report that we now have a player for every level! Full details soon, but thanks again to Andy Chalk and PC Gamer for championing indie games in these trying times.

Did you take the once-a-year one-day-only one-chance-only "Right To Replay" challenge held December 9, 2024? I hope so because it was awesome! I actually beat the challenge and won the coupon. Here is my video proof:

'We have more levels than players': This indie dev's game was a complete flop, but he's powering through with his plan to release 20 seasons of new content anyway

I was initially attracted to Endlight, a weird indie game about getting hoops, by its intense, almost overwhelming trailer, but what hooked me were the less obvious but very clever bits lying beneath its sensory onslaught: Levels are punctuated by odd, sometimes very funny chunks of text that made me feel as though developer Jim McGinley was watching and talking in the background as I played. I also loved the game's central conceit: Every level can only be completed once. After it's done, it's gone forever...
