Making the post-apoc setting feel more alive

Greetings, associate!

Besides working on just game mechanics (as interesting as those might be), a part of our team is busy fleshing out Revival’s setting by the way of visual storytelling. The goal, as always, is to create an image of a future, where humanity has managed to survive and adapt to incredible, almost unbearable environmental changes, rise up against all odds (with your help, of course) and to create a new civilization.

An important step in the process of making the game’s setting more nuanced is gradually switching the models and icons you have seen in the demo with their finalized versions. As an example, you may compare the concepts of tribal settlements to the current (placeholder) model. We wanted each settlement to feel unique, yet suitable to the climate a tribe prefers living in. Another benefit of having more distinct visuals for tribes - you will now be able to tell which tribe you or your neighbours are interacting with at a quick glance.

Eventually, the concepts for tribal settlements and other yet-to-be-revealed buildings will be turned into 3D models. Right now, our 3D artists are focused on weapons and heavy equipment. Several new models have already been added to the game, as well as new visual effects for shots and explosions that help make the battles feel more lively.

In a few weeks, you will have a chance to check out these and other improvements to the game build. Stay tuned for future updates!

Machine vs Man: Meet the All-Mind

Greetings, associate!

In previous updates, we have gone over some of the mechanics of Revival: Recolonization and how the game is changing based on your feedback. What we haven't discussed in as much detail is the game’s premise. Today, we are going to talk about the creation of the All-Mind and the fall of humanity.

Thousands of years ago, humankind reached its technological zenith. Man was able to explore the galaxy and travel to new planets, terraforming them into habitable homes.

This new era of development marked the creation of an artificial intelligence called the All-Mind. Though its intelligence surpassed that of its architects, the international team of scientists working on the project pushed their new creation even further. By tethering together the lithospheric plates of many planets via portals, they created something that resembled the neural network of a human brain. As a result, a breakthrough was made - the All-Mind's intelligence and power grew to a point where it seemed almost supernatural.

The All-Mind looked down upon its creators and saw humanity as weak, feeble – it fancied itself as the next stage in human evolution. Without the slightest hesitation, the rogue A.I would destroy life on any given planet, guided by curiosity and inexplicable spite. The team of scientists responsible for the All-Mind project realized their mistake too late. A few of them tried to destroy the neural network by disconnecting the portals at the cost of their own lives.

This resulted in the All-Mind losing its sanity and launching a galaxy-wide cataclysm full of destruction and chaos. The incident severely altered the climates and orbits of various settled planets, forever changing them and plunging humanity into a new Dark Age.

Each of these planets still holds fragments of the All-Mind, disconnected from the neural network and hibernating for a thousand years. This is when you wake up from cryosleep - a member of the team of scientists that created the tyrannical A.I. It will be up to you to correct the mistakes of the past or to succumb to them and unleash the All-Mind’s madness yet again. The choice is yours and yours only.
