No Rest for the Wicked’s PC performance suggests the wicked might be better off waiting

Lured like an unsatisfied sailor by the siren song of alleged performance woes, I’ve been giving No Rest for the Wicked a cursory benchmarkin’, and yes! The isometric ARPG does suffer from all the early access wonkiness you’ve likely heard about already today.

No Rest For The Wicked devs working on fixes for performance issues and progression loss bugs

No Rest For The Wicked, the top-down soulslike that released yesterday in Steam early access, is already seeing its fair share of performance and QOL issues, including instability, lack of keybinding options, and players losing their progress. In response, developer Moon Studios have put out a blog saying that, yes, they’re aware of the problems and, yes, they’re actively looking to address the most common hiccups.

No Rest for the Wicked has players divided, as it launches to Mixed Steam reviews and plenty of complaints

The launch of No Rest for the Wicked hasn’t gone as smoothly as many had hoped. While there were no server issues to contend with, or severe optimisation and game stability problems, the reception has so far been mixed.

The problems mainly revolve around the state of the Steam Early Access build, but once you get past that, so many of Moon Studios’ design decisions have left players surprised and often annoyed.

Thank You, Known Issues, and Solutions

Our heartfelt thanks to the huge number of you who have already joined us on the Early Access journey. As a real passion project for us all here at Moon that we’ve dreaming about for years, it’s truly humbling to see so many of you playing and loving No Rest for the Wicked! If you are enjoying your time with Wicked please do give us a review, it really does help us out and make a big difference.

That said, this is Early Access, so there is plenty you will see improve as we continuously look to optimize and improve the game with your feedback. Below is a list of issues which we are aware of and are already working on but if you come across anything else please use the links below to provide feedback or bug reporting:
Known Issues We're Looking Into:
• Performance: We are constantly reviewing and optimizing performance and will continue to do so. If you are having performance issues also try reducing your resolution scale or rendering resolution. We’re aiming to get some immediate GPU settings in the next patch, but knowing what hardware specs you have would help us narrow everything down so please share in the forum feedback link above!
    • You may encounter hitches as you load into new areas.
    • You can set Quality Presets as well as other options in the SETTINGS menu to help improve frame rate.
    • Installing No Rest for the Wicked on an SSD is highly recommended.
  • Key Rebinding: There are currently no in-game rebindable controls.
  • Aspect Ratios: Below are the currently supported aspect ratios. We will be improving and adding aspect ratios support over time!
    • 16:9
    • 16:10
    • 21:9
    • 64:27
    • 43:18
    • 12:5
  • Localization: Language support will be on-going through Early Access.
    • You may encounter untranslated text. If you do please help us hunt those down and report them!
  • Faders: There may be times that the environment will not fade away properly. These will be reviewed and fixed.
  • Controls: Current UI will only display Xbox buttons for controller bindings. Keyboard and mouse will show correct bindings.
Known Issues with Solutions:
• Collision: There may be instances where you can get stuck or fall through the world. If you end up stuck, exit to the main menu, go to your realm in the realms menu and use the CONTINUE FROM LAST WHISPER option to spawn back at the last whisper you activated.
  • Backups: If you lose progression for any reason, exit to the main menu, go to your realm in the realms menu and use BACKUPS to go back to an earlier save in your realm.
  • Controller Support: If you encounter issues with your controller not working in-game, check if Steam Input is Enabled in Steam.
    • Playstation controllers are known to only work with Steam Input Enabled.
Thank you and keep sharing your feedback!
