The Chichimec

Today we’ll show you this WIP of a study of the Chichimec facial paint.
The Chichimec were a group of nomadic and semi-nomadic people that inhabited the territory known as Gran Chichimeca.
These feared Mesoamerican people were known for the human and animal sacrifices that they practiced, as well as for their skill and fierceness in war.
They dressed with little clothing and body paint, and their warriors went to battle with face paintings (usually in white colors) to intimidate their enemies.

DanyanCat as María de Estrada

Dear Mictlan community, we’re pleased to present you the WIP of DanyanCat as María de Estrada, Spanish conquistador and member of Hernán Cortés’ expedition.

Shortly after being castaway in Cuba, she stayed in Mesoamerica looking for her husband, who was a member of Hernán Cortés’ hosts. De Estrada stood out as one of the few women that took an active role in the conquest.
Chroniclers described her as a brave and courageous woman, a fighter, skilled in using the sword, the roundel and spear, both on foot and horseback.

María de Estrada will be one of the historical characters that you will find in Mictlan: An Ancient Mythical Tale.

Temple of Xochipilli

Hi, Mictlantecs!

Today we want to show you the #WIP of the reconstruction of the Temple of Xochipilli.
Its design is based on a real structure found at the Templo Mayor in Mexico's City; the only part that was created by our artists is the oratory on top of the structure.

This place was dedicated to the god Xochipilli, which means “Prince of Flowers” or “Flowery Noble”. He was the god of flowers, love, games, beauty and pleasure.

Have you checked our previous post about this god? You can see our design and learn more about this important figure.

His temple was used for celebrations in which the people of Tenochtitlan would bring lots of edible offerings, while Tenochtitlan’s neighbors would instead bring prisoners to be sacrificed as tributes.

Mym Alkapone: WIP

From the amazing world of streaming, and appearing before the Mictlan family, our dear Mym Alkapone, sporting on this #WIP a glorious outfit of Mexica emperor.

It is a pleasure and an honor for us to count on the support of a genius in the gaming world. Jorge Levya, pride of Tabasco, shares on this project his passion for video games, representing an important and respected figure in Mexica culture: a great Tlatoani.

There is no doubt that in Mexico there is great potential: the streamers, content creators, production team and players are the strength of this empire.

Just a catch up

At Mictlan, every day we challenge ourselves as we try to improve our work pipeline.

When we started the project, our knowledge was very basic, but little by little we have improved the way we work as a team. Mictlan is our first video game, most of our team does not have professional industry experience, making our efforts even more difficult.
But the need to improve and learn our way of working has helped us to grow a lot, experimenting over and over again until we find favorable results. On one hand, this process delays our project, but on the other hand, ensures that we have the exact results that we are aiming for.
We might be a small studio, but we have big aspirations!
The response of our community, your comments, your constructive feedback has also helped us a lot to improve our way of working and give ourselves new perspectives. We want to thank you for being here from the very beginning, for all the good vibes and constant support you've been providing us.
