Decorations, Lighting, Paint and Tracks!

Hello everyone!

Last week has been busy revolving around new content. Marble World now has some more decorational items, a newly created animated paint for the tracks, some new awesome track pieces aswell and ontop of that the lighting has been improved for future support.

Let's take a look at some of this new content!
New Decorational Items
Last week some time was spend on finding and/or creating new decorations to place. In this case you can now freely place several types of rocks + some wooden decorational items like houses carved out of wood. With the limited time a week has I've decided not to go completely crazy into the decorational items as the other aspects of the game should be fleshed out more aswell. More to come soon! If you have cool ideas for wooden carved structures let me know in the comments.

P.s. the rocks are still missing a proper texture, which is to come soon aswell.
Paint and new Track Pieces
I wanted to venture out into the more "dynamic" visuals of the game. Up until now it felt abit static / stale with only the marbles moving around. So I decided to create a type of paint (similar to the normal "static" paint I've showcased some posts ago) that is animated. Inspired by Mario Kart's Rainbow Road you can now paint your tracks in a moving rainbow colored style! To complement the heavy colored paint I also added a dark/black paint, both to be seen in the image's / video below.

Next to that marble world now has more track types, there's a singular looping (for the tiny tracks where marbles can't surpass eachother) track and a wide version aswell. I've also created a quarterpipe (one going upwards and one going downwards) to have the ability to create ramps and half loops!

And there's more! I also added 2 new physics based wheels that react to marbles colliding with them!
Improved Lighting
I spend abit of time last week tinkering with the lighting to create a more dynamic setting. (And also support for the future lighting system) Tracks and objects now create a heavier shadow, enabling to create more darker places. And they are now more consistent in coloring aswell. Previously they became lighter of color when placed near lights, (such as the ceiling light) this doesn't happen anymore now.

In the future, you will be able to turn off the lights all together and just have your own placed lights and glow in the dark tracks / marbles be visible. This was the first step towards that. The changes are already visible in the pictures above.
Next week
There are some systems left to create, mainly one that keeps an eye on performance and reacts when things go wrong. That is planned for next week along with more content! As I type there's another animated material in the works which will be presented next week along with the rest of the new content!
Let me know in the comments if you have a cool idea for track pieces, decorations or ideas.

Sounds!

Hello everyone!

Since the last update last week alot of progress has been made in the audio department. No game is complete without it, and It's a powerful tool to immersive yourself into a game!

I took some more time for this feature as playing sounds also come with performance hits. (certainly when there's 5k marbles rolling around!) So the majority of the time since last post was basically split between recording the sounds (and optimizing those) and creating a system that wouldn't fry your PC just cause you wanted to play some sound effects.

Now Marble World has a system that checks which marble hitted which object or other marbles! And will generate a realistic collide sound as you would expect from it. By using a system like this I can play different sounds based on what kind of material the marble hitted, wood sounds different from plastic for example!

In that system I also look at how fast the marble went and how big the impact was. All of those factors determine together how loud it should be. The sounds are also positioned at the impact location, this means when wearing a headset you can hear the marbles around you bumping and bouncing away. Playing this using a surround set in your living room for example gives you a really nice immersive feeling of actually being between the tracks you made!

Check out the video below for a quick example! (Use a headset for the best experience)
Next week
Next week will be a good one, It's going to be purely content creation! More track types, more marble skins and more decoration items! On top of that I'll livestream some gameplay next week over at: https://www.twitch.tv/marbleworldgame come join in and lets create some cool tracks together!

UI Update & Early Access date reveal!

Hello everyone!

Late post for last week's update, It's been hectic getting the UI done in time but it's ready! Next to that alot of polishing took place aswell. Removing bugs & fixing performance issues regarding high volume of marbles, and it's all done and ready!

It took abit longer than expected, mostly because I still had to make some of the UI actually work and not be a placeholder and fix some UI related bugs. Next to that I'm not a UX designer, so I had to figure out a style that would fit in with the game and not actually be terrible. But I'm statisfied with the result!

Next to the UI update I also managed to fix some bugs (crashes & performance related ones) and these are solved aswell! That meant that yesterday was the mark where I could run Marble World without any showstoppers, crashes or marbles misbehaving in the land of physics whilst having 5000 of those rolling around at the same time!

So I decided on a release date! And I'm proud to say that Marble World will go into Early Access on May 7th! Can't wait to see what everyone is going to create!
You can see the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67b_L49mG_E

And here are some examples of the UI!
Note that all UI is still subject to change and might not be final.
Next week (this week!)
This week will be about sound! I'm going to see if i can recreate the statisfying AMSR like sound marbles produce when they are in large numbers, so fingers crossed!

Hope you all have a great week!

Marble Effects

Hello everyone!

Short write-up today! Last week the focus was on adding marble effect support. And now your able to customize your marble with an effect! Whether it's some kind of sparkles, trail or halo it's all going to be available!
Effects & Customization
As said before on the first post, a way to customize a marble is to just click on one. And now that same window that pops up will offer a variety of effects to choose from aswell! Personally I feel it adds so much life to the game. And it has been fun aswell creating some of the effects so far! What would you like to see as an effect? It can be some form of trail, halo, sparkles or anything you can imagine!

(You can find moving videos on the twitter!)
Next week
Next week will be about polishing in general, expect UI improvements and more showcasing of the new stuff on the main steam page!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Racing & Track Painting!

Hello everyone!

Last week work has been done on the racing aspect of the game. Marble World now supports new starter track types which lets you spawn in marbles with names + skins of choice! Next to that there's also support for track painting!
Racing
As said last week, one of the cornerstones of this game is the ability to run races. So I added a new type of track called a "starter" track. On selection this track opens a window where you can fine-tune your marbles' name, skin and soon also trails! The data is attached to that specific starter track, so you can have multiple starter tracks with their own settings if you want to easily have difference races. (Or even start from multiple positions! On the side of the track is a button to spawn in the marbles and one to start the race. (Buttons are work-in-progress and not visible on the screenshot)
Track Painting
One of the big features I personally looked forward to alot, the ability to paint tracks! Marble World now has a work-in-progress interface where you select a color and just paint whatever part of a track piece you want! Currently there's support for 9 colours, but more are to come! A picture of this is seen at the top of the page.
Next week
Next week I'll be diving into trails & particle effects. Trails for marbles and particle effects as decorational type. I felt that being able to paint your tracks already brought the game more to life, but effects will bring another big impact on that! Can't wait!

Hope you all have a great weekend!
