6/29/23 - Chaos Chain Update 1.12.0

Chaos Chain

Salutations, dwellers...

Here is the next update for the game. Check out the change log below!

*Please note that these changes are not in any particular order.*
BETA Update 1.12.0 Change Log:
Bug Fixes:
 • FIXED some contextual action formatting inconsistencies
 • FIXED a major price calculation issue which could result in all item prices having a very high sell price and very low buy price (Forgot a decimal XD - Whoops!)

Changes & Additions:
 • Added 5 new Scavver faction troop lists for random encounters
 • Updated random encounter (Combat) lists
 • Updated some interior areas
 • Updated the world map image with some new locations that are coming in the future (Yeah, I know, I still have a lot of areas to make - Even thinking about it makes me tired)
 • Price adjustments based on reputation now come at a "reputation_absolute_value
 • 0.05
 • item_price / 100" rate (High reps were very easily gained through various means and this in turn caused you to be able to buy items for significantly low prices and sell for extraordinarily high prices - breaking the balance of the economy system)
 • Added a small amount of room for the mouse to be able to travel past the edge of the screen but still appear on screen so that cursor based scrolling in vertical menus still worked (The previous patch had a fix for the mouse pointer disappearing off screen towards the edges but it disabled mouse scrolling in the vertical menus)
 • Increased mouse hover sound volume slightly when moving the mouse over menu options
 • Added some new tileset graphics to be used in the near future
 • Revive skills/abilities can now be used ANYTIME and not just in combat (These were not intended to be combat-only)
 • Redistributed some boss stats so that they aren't so overpowered in certain stats (Looking at you, Roid)
 • Daytime (Sunrise through sunset) color saturation increased slightly to make it more visually obvious that it's daytime and not just constant night
 • Added a preventative measure to ensure the user of an attack skill must be alive for the duration of the skill for it to continuously be used (Example: autofire but the user dies mid-way through due to a counter attack)
 • Getting fame for giving Connors scrap will now require 10 scrap per fame point instead of 5 (It was too easy to just buy scrap and then give it to him for fame - a player confirmed this earlier today)
 • Some other various minor tweaks and changes

Please let me know of any bugs or issues you may encounter so I can fix them. This update will be available shortly.

That's all for now, enjoy!

6/25/23 - Chaos Chain Update 1.11.0

Chaos Chain

Salutations, dwellers...

More changes based on community feedback. :-)

*Please note that these changes are not in any particular order.*
BETA Update 1.11.0 Change Log:
Bug Fixes:
 • Fixed the mouse cursor being able to go slightly off screen to the right and bottom (It still acts a bit wonky when fullscreened but it won't get visually lost in nothingness anymore)

Changes & Additions:
 • Based on player request, I've added a pile of memory chips to the player apartment area (It has 15 total, you can choose to take 5, 10, or 15 of them - As you take them by 5's, the pile will visually get smaller and smaller, but should greatly help with people who were still not fond of the save system despite my recent work to make it more casual - This in total will give you 15 additional free saves which can be used anywhere and anytime)
 • Deja Vu world modifier now autosaves each new game day instead of giving a free memory chip
 • Improved contrast filter on the UI window
 • Made the scroll arrows in menus have green instead of pink filling and made them high contrast
 • Improved the sharpness of the mouse cursor, made it high contrast, and replaced the pink with green
 • Improved the X-coordinate detection of the mouse location significantly for better handling in selection windows (It was pretty far off)
 • Improved the Y-coordinate detection of the mouse location slightly for better handling in selection windows (Only was slightly off)
 • Added a low volume sound effect with slightly higher pitch than the default for when you use the mouse to change the currently selected option in a selection window
 • Stashes are now marked with green mouse label text
 • Slightly brightened the default mouse label text color (Gold/Yellow)
 • Some other minor tweaks and changes

Please let me know of any bugs or issues you may encounter so I can fix them. This update will be available shortly.

6/24/23 - Chaos Chain Update 1.10.0

Chaos Chain

Salutations, dwellers...

Hey everyone!

I put together this update over the course of the week based on some community feedback. I'm still working on other stuff for the next major update, but this stuff here in the change log should be all set for everyone to enjoy.

(New higher contrast UI - Ignore the version number in the image, that was just for my development build)

*Please note that these changes are not in any particular order.*
BETA Update 1.10.0 Change Log:
Bug Fixes:
 • Fixed a few typos

Changes & Additions:
 • Added some new Steam Achievements
 • The first time you enter a new district/zone and the intro text for the location is displayed, the game will autosave immediately after
 • Added a free memory chip to The Eclipse: Basement area
 • After talking to Tara in the main storyline, you will get access to a useable couch which will allow you to rest and save just like a bed whenever you want
 • All enemy drones now have a 5% chance to drop memory chips
 • Increased chance of ambush event happening slightly when moving between districts on foot
 • Added "Deja Vu" world modifier (Gain a free memory chip automatically each new game day)
 • You can now only rest a maximum of 3 times each game day (This has been added to first avoid exploiting the new Deja Vu modifier, but also to prevent exploiting the gambling system by repeatedly just resting and then going and racking up a ton of Cred)
 • Added a special new random travel event for metro and foot travel between districts based on community feedback (Memory chip seller)
 • Added another special new random travel event for metro and foot travel between districts based on community feedback (Memory Chip Finders Keepers)
 • Fast traveling will now turn ON the main HUD overlay regardless of the setting in the menu so that you can see your most important stats (Health, Mettle, Cred, etc) during random events (To make more informed choices during those events)
 • Added a check to the beginning of the random travel events roller which will prevent the same exact event from happening twice in a row
 • Added Scavenger Backpack (+90 Inv Size, -9 Initiative, 135 cost)
 • Added some new randomized dialogue lines for generic NPCs
 • Updated some item descriptions to be more explained for what they do
 • Added some new dialogue with plot related characters
 • Improved the contrast colors of the ui
 • Added a very faint edge glow effect to the ui where the appearance shifts from the border to the "screen"
 • Updated some main plot related dialogues
 • Updated some shop listings
 • Added some new icon art
 • Various other minor tweaks and changes

Please let me know of any bugs or issues you may encounter so I can fix them. This update will be available shortly.

A gentle reminder: if you're enjoying the game so far or have critiques you'd like to share, please consider leaving a review for me. 6/18/23 - Chaos Chain Dev Blog

Chaos Chain

Hey guys!

So, now that the newest major update is stable with all the hotfixes that I've released and the bug reports have stopped coming in, starting tomorrow - Monday the 19th of June, 2023 - I'll be starting work on the next major update. It's probably going to take some time, but like the previous major update, it'll likely be gigantic again. I have a lot of planned content additions, so it'll be worth the wait!

This week, I do have some other business to attend to, however, so it'll probably be slow progress at least for this week. I have family going out of town and I'm taking care of their affairs in the meantime for them. Due to this, I may not have a ton of time to be on the forums and/or the Discord channel, but I'll still try to answer questions and help anyone who needs help as I am able to.

My main plans for the next update are to finally continue on and finish a good portion of the main story, working on more world building such as expanding the amount of content available in the Industrial Zone, adding more side quests, increasing the amount of different travel events to make them more varied/unique/diverse, and just focusing pretty much all around on adding more gameplay content. I don't just want to fill the game with a bunch of lame and simple stuff, so it might take a bit, but it'll be worthwhile content and not just a ton of random filler content.

If I have the time, energy, and creative inspiration, I will hopefully also begin work on the next district. I don't know which one I'll focus on next, but I would love to add another one sooner than later so that there's more room for content and entire new areas to explore. I had originally planned on working on The Warrens district awhile back and wanted to have it done by now, but a lot of my development priorities shifted based on community request and what I felt was important at the time. Still, I'll get to it all eventually.

Anyways, that's all I've got for now.

Thanks for reading!
