9/5/25 - Chaos Chain Update 1.81.0

Chaos Chain

Attention, freelancers!

Here is the next update for the game. It's got a few different things included, so be sure to check out the full change log below!

Mainly, I was working on finishing the main layout of the new city area.
(Work in progress Central Canal Crossing 1)

(Work in progress Central Canal Crossing 2)

(Work in progress Central Canal Crossing 3)

*Please note that these changes are not in any particular order.*
BETA Update 1.81.0 Change Log:
Bug Fixes:
 • FIXED typo in the achievement "Piker Cemetery" (It had an A instead of an E at the end and caused it not to unlock - it was spelled wrong in the achievement but correctly in the game itself)
 • FIXED a couple of lingering tileset pathing issues
 • FIXED there being an invisible wall in the middle of the Industrial Zone (Was a leftover test event from last patch)

Changes & Additions:
 • Added a Steam achievement for visiting Central Canal Crossing (Like with the other areas)
 • Added extra effects to Central Canal Crossing
 • Added area intro to Central Canal Crossing
 • Added protesters and riot police to Central Canal Crossing
 • Added some NPC blocks to Central Canal Crossing to prevent them from blocking the player
 • Finished the lower side main layout of Central Canal Crossing (Just need to finish the upper area on the other side of the bridge - there's nothing to do here yet, but you can see it as it's being made if you want to check it out)
 • Added 3 new riot police sprites (Armed - 1 female, 2 male)
 • Added poker chip misc item (Just for added flavor - I like having a lot of misc items because it makes the world feel more occupied in my opinion and can lead to interesting situations)
 • Updated random enemy loot drop lists
 • Updated several shop lists
 • Updated random container drop lists
 • Made some of the old wooden fence entities look a bit more worn (Some of the planks are chipped, some are slightly shorter than others, etc - they aren't meant to look even remotely perfect like they were)
 • Added some new after combat phrases for the party
 • Added several new barks for both police and protesters at the protest locations
 • Various other minor tweaks and adjustments

Please let me know of any bugs or issues you may encounter so I can fix them. This update will be available for download shortly.

8/31/25 - Chaos Chain Update 1.80.0

Chaos Chain

Attention, freelancers!

A work in progress shot of the new district area

Here is the next update for the game. Check out the full change log below!

*Please note that these changes are not in any particular order.*
BETA Update 1.80.0 Change Log:
Bug Fixes:
 • FIXED the display name for Piker Cemetery showing the "SD" (Subdistrict) in the name

Changes & Additions:
 • Added new district - Central Canal Crossing (This area is not 100% done, but you can check it out so far if you want to - there's nothing specific to do in there yet)
 • Updated world map image
 • Slightly modified some existing exterior areas
 • Color tints based on time of day are now slightly randomized each game day (In basic terms, the color tint for the environment is now slightly different every single day in the game, and the tints are now independent for each time of day --- so, morning on day one might be slightly red, morning on day two might be slightly green, noon on day one might be slightly grey, noon on day two might be slightly yellow, and so on...)
 • Updated the time of day thresholds so that the color throughout the day shifts a bit more gradually)
 • Added some new visual effects to some of the smaller areas
 • Added warning signs/restricted area signs to some of the emergency chain link (barbed) fences
 • Crowbar now has 5% chance to cause bleed but only 15% chance to cause stunned instead of 20% (Also updated enemies who use this to reflect this change)
 • Renamed duster to overcoat (Fits better)
 • Added police JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) environment sprites
 • Rolled out some JLTVs to the existing police blockades
 • Updated the North side of Piker Cemetery to allow for a direct connection to the new city area (Central Canal Crossing)
 • Added some new generic NPC sprites
 • Improved clarity of some tileset entities
 • Various other minor tweaks and changes

Please let me know of any bugs or issues you may encounter so I can fix them. This update will be available for download shortly.

8/21/25 - Chaos Chain Development Status Update

Chaos Chain

Hey everyone,

I apologize for the delay in dev logs; I've been extremely busy. Life has a way of doing that to you now and again. Anyways...

The recent updates have brought a lot of new content and various game refinements. I'm now at a point where I can progress with adding more main story content, developing new city areas, and working towards finalizing the game. What's currently available in terms of the game world, is PACKED with content. Absolutely PACKED.

I don't have an exact completion date for the game at this time, which I know might be disappointing to some. However, this means I'm not rushing the process, and you'll ultimately get more content and a more polished experience to enjoy upon full release. Or now if you play as I build, you get to help shape the game. This game has taken longer than I originally intended, but it is also significantly more than I originally planned on it being. It is already more than I believed it would be and I still have a lot I'd like to add. Someone suggested getting the main story done and then just releasing it and then adding more side content, but that feels wrong to me. More on that below.

I've continued receiving many community requests, and while I'd love to implement them all, adding more features extends the full release timeline further and further back. I'm happy to include these additions as long as the game continues to generate a decent income to cover the development costs and keep the lights on. I would love to do this all for free, but I simply cannot. Reviews, picking up support packs, and sharing news about the game with friends is a great way to help me out if you want to go the extra mile.

My goal is to continue to incorporate as many community requests as possible (within reason of course) to create an excellent game, and I believe what we have so far is quite solid - this is definitely my best work to date. The game currently offers an estimated 20-30 hours of fresh content, including around 60 side quests, 4 contracts (small side jobs of varying length and objectives), and a main quest with at least a handful of refined hours of gameplay. Obviously, gametime will differ from player to player based on how you choose to play, how much you read, explore, etc.

We recently discussed on our Discord channel why I include so many side quests. Well, I've always felt that side quests allow players to experience the world more deeply than just through the main story. They provide a better understanding of the overall game world and help fill out the atmosphere in ways the main story might not be able to do. I also believe side quests are integral to the adventure, shaping the overall story through your decisions and actions. They fill out the world and make it feel alive. While the game has a main plot, the side quests are very important in building your character and telling your story as you venture through the Slade City sprawl. There's a lot to experience, explore, and mess around with.

With each update that comes, I hope you see the work and the passion that is going into this. At least with me, you'll know that you're getting a labor of love and it's not all about just seeing profits.

That's all for now. Thank you for reading.
