Graphics Upgrade, Part 2! And 3-Year Anniversary!

Today three years ago, on June 4 2021, Tunguska: The Visitation was first released on Steam. We have gone a long way! Three years of updates, six DLCs, gamepad controls, Steam Deck support, and NOW:

Woohoo! I'm excited to announce the second part of graphics upgrade - this time, terrains are finally looking better!

I have always struggled with the thought "why does the game look so bad during rain and overcast?" I got a lot of suggestions from fans and other game devs to improve the looks of terrains, in order to make the map look less boring during those non-sunny weather. But I was hesitant because, being not very good with visual art, I had no idea how to do it.

Eventually I figure out a way - I added four new terrain textures, and after a week of clicking away with my mouse, we now have jagged roads, rocky cliffs, and puddles for you to splash on. Check it out:

I also added a little hut by the Barn in Zernaskaya, because that area is just too empty. The hut has... some interesting surprise in it :) (If you have completed Haruko's assassination quests you'll know what it's about)

And finally, I fixed some issues with the water and got a nice new normal map for them. Looks a lot better now!

Other fixes included in 1.84:

- Fixed a problem with terrain normal map not showing up

- Fixed a bug with ghouls not investigating player's footsteps

- After completing Sidor's quest to take back the barn, as soon as you turn in the quest, the Bootleggers will occupy the barn... For now.

- Slightly spread out the enemies around the trailer house in Lake Cheko

- Made sniper lens effect a little brighter

- Shooting dead crows will no longer leave a bullet hole in the air

- Fixed the weird lighting inside windmills

Quick Bug Fix

There's a bug caused by 1.83-6, where your serum boost wasn't properly loaded and it causes your character stats to set to 0. After installing this new update which fixes this bug, please delete any .json file previously created and load the game.

Update 1.83-6 Patch Notes

- In this patch I'm beginning the migration of save game format from binary to JSON. This is because the .Net binary serialization that I've been using is going obsolete, so I must move to a newer format. You will see new .json save game files being generated as you play the game. You can actually modify these files with a text editor, but be sure to save a backup. Note that due to the fact that JSON format is text based, the save game files will be much bigger than the binary format.

Please let me know if you notice any problems with loading the game, since the format change required quite a lot of change to the code.

- Added in-game options to adjust grass render distance and density. You can lower these settings for slightly higher frame rates.

- Added a cheat code to generate a custom NPC into the game for your entertainment. You can actually write your own dialogue file with simple quest scripting. Later I will write a guide on Steam community to explain how to use it:

Update 1.83-5 Patch Notes

This is a quick update to fix some graphical errors caused by the new sun ray/cloud shadow effects. Also adjusted ambient color and color post processing.
