Beta Update - V 0.6

This is a massive patch which includes most of the planned launch features! The game still isn't quite done yet, but this patch gets us most of the way there.

If you have beta access- give it a try and let me know about any bugs you reach along the way!

At 190k words of pure dialogue, if you printed out every scenario it would be as long as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire- a 750 page hardcover book!

Feature and Gameplay Changes
• There are now 400 unique scenarios!
• There are now 120 different endings!
• Two new enemies- Tooth Fairy and Hive Queen- join the fray!
• Sophie receives her first skin!
• Challenges have been implemented- and have Achievement integration!
• Gallery Mode has been implemented!
• The Shop has new art!
• New background images for several screens!
• 113 / 120 endings now have custom art!
Bugfixes and Polish Tweaks
• Turn Counter no longer breaks out of alignment when killing bosses.
• Turn Counter positioning tweaks.
• Ending List scrollbar fixed
• Vando Monastary events now occur in the correct order
• Dragonslayer equips weapons in the correct order
• Enemies now properly equip weapons
• Reworked HUD animations for items/skills to be a little cleaner
• Plimbo no longer jumps into Hell at the start of combat
• Fixed a bug where demons could take over the Hospital

Roadmap

Here's a list of the things I CAN discuss:
• The rest of the monsters and skins still need to be added
• Placeholder assets need to be removed!

But it's not everything. Next month I'll make an announcement about future development and hopefully even release timing!

Thanks,
Shadi

A new patch with a lot of momentum as we near release! Expect one or two more massive content patches in the coming months.

Large Changes

• New Endings: The game now features 102 endings- up by almost 50 since V 0.4!
• A New Character: You can now play as Plimbo, the Tyrant!
• Costumes: There is now a costume picker! Jim and Plimbo are the only characters with any costumes at one each.
• Unique Player Themes: Each player will get their own soundtrack while playing the game!
• New Enemies Appear: New enemies have appeared! Banjo Frog is in the random rotation, but there are five other secret enemies you might run into...

Small Changes

• No more Birthdays: Birthday Mode has been removed to free up space int he settings menu.

Bugfixes

Beta Patch V0.4

Now that Friendship Games Festival and Steam Next Fest are over- we can resume with larger changes that are more likely to break things!

This is a pretty large upgrade over last week's build, so the version number is ticking up to 0.4!

Feel free to goof around and see if any of the new stuff breaks!
Content
• Five New Soundtracks are now implemented!
This isn't the only upcoming music update, but it's a big one! I'm working on making sure that different phases of the game don't blend together, so expect more track changes in the future.

• 27 New Items and Skills!
That's right- there's a ton of new content to be found. Most of these will be restricted to random card rewards since they're not acquirable in any existing events... for now.

• Mystery Box Redesign
Shops no longer have a "random item" option. Instead, you can pick up Mystery Boxes! Mystery Boxes transform into random items in combat. The Hoarder ending has had its requirements change to center on mystery boxes now, to make it less likely to be acquired on accident.

• Birthday Mode
In Birthday Mode, every single character- including enemies- gets a mystery box during combat!

• The Frank x Gretchen Paired Ending Rewritten
I'm not sure if anyone's managed to get this ending yet- because it was deviously hard. It's been rewritten and the requirements updated to comply with existing game logic.

• Medic and Frank's minion sprites now comply with the Geneva Convention.
Frank's full art is still being worked on, but will follow soon.
Game Feel
• The countdown animation on skills has been redesigned.
• The boss now takes poison/burn damage just before dying in its overkill state.
• The "Choose your Name" screen has updated buttons for confirm/random.
• Tutorials will no longer show the complete button until you scroll through every panel.
This is one of those changes that's kind of annoying for seasoned players, but prevents lots of folks from accidentally closing too early and spending the whole game confused.
• First tutorial slightly modified to showcase advanced tutorials
• There is now a Multi-Wield icon next to the weapons indicator on the stats card.
• Vote Time transition shifted up to 2.5 seconds from 1, and new elements for Group Votes introduced.
• Overkill Counter will now appear even when you perfect kill an enemy.
• There are now particles that play over avatars during invincible / overkill phases.
• The "You Died" screen won't pop up if you die during a miniboss encounter.
Balance
• Medic now starts with healing wave instead of regen.
• Casino Chips now grants 6 poison per turn instead of 2.
• Dark Knight now casts Buffaga instead of Anger.
• Dark Knight has 20 additional max hp.
• Captain Al's romance quest requires 4 party members instead of 5.
• Enemy dodging logic changed.
• Sudden Death now kills enemies first.
• You can no longer reach negative health while invincible in combat, which would kill you when combat ended.
Bugfixes
• Fixed a bug where several items did not activate during combat.
• The Maskman Shop Event will now correctly occur.
• Inflicting Frail no longer causes healing/status tooltips to adjust their displayed values.
• Fixed a bug where you could not select the Tutorials button in the Settings menu with a controller.
• Frank is now using the correct minion art.
• The pre-fight moon transition should now clear out items before playing.
• Branding Strike is no longer free.
• Selecting Haley as your crush no longer gives you extra Friendship.

Demo Update - Patch 0.3.7

The last week has been pretty hectic! I've probably watched 20-30 hours of streamed gameplay during that time, and while many of these things were rolled out incrementally they're now being bundled together in a single larger patch coinciding with when I updated the demo!

Changes are as follows:

Gameplay Changes
• Weapon attacks are no longer free Weapons were originally free because you need Multi-Wield to use them, so they they were effectively 1 Skill + 1 Item in terms of power so I didn't feel like they needed to cost a Brain to use as well. This was largely a mistake- because getting even 2-3 weapons was enough to ramp damage considerably. Weapons will still be very good, but now you might need some brainpower as well.

• Breaker Blade now grants +1 STR on Equip, instead of +2. Breaker Blade start was so much stronger than the others it was warping the early game. This tones it down.

• Penetrator reduces enemy defense by 1 instead of by 2. Penetrator just adding 2 damage to everything got really insane- especially in a multiplayer game where you might hit more than one.

• Shop Odds Adjusted The shop used to offer 1 common, 1 uncommon, and 1 rare item. This made it really easy to find a bunch of extremely strong gear (like diamond armor). The shop now rolls three times and offers:

1x Common Item
1x (50%) Common OR (50%) Uncommon Item
1x (25%) Common OR (50%) Uncommon OR (25%) Rare Item

This change means the Shop, in general, offers weaker gear.

• Romance Requirements no longer scale with game difficulty Most players were just going to a single location every single turn to meet romance requirements, and I think that's a lame gameplay pattern so I've made getting a date generally easier.

• Enemy HP Increased Enemies were getting one rounded very quickly. This change mostly affects Adventure and War mode- Vacation mode is mostly untouched.

• Skulldweller Tweaks Skulldweller having Thorns on Adventure Mode ended up being super punishing. I've taken the ability away, but kept it on his War Mode incarnation where having a stronger strategy is probably warranted.

• Tutorials in the Pause Menu You can now access all the tutorials in the game via the Controls Menu! A few players accidentally closed it, so this should help in case they need to revisit them.

• New Transition in the Endgame There's a new transition when the Doomsday Party is over! This'll be accompanied with a music change in the future.
Art / Animation Updates
• Skulldweller Skill Animation Update
• New Art for endings 3, 4, 37, 38, 42, and 61.
Bugfixes
• So, so many typos...
• Voiceline that plays when a Miniboss reveals has changed
• You can no longer "tab out" of the controls menu when you have a sub-menu open
• The Shuffle Bug group vote event now applies on Friendship as well
• Fixed a bug where you could Close the "Endings" popup with the escape key, and it would stall the game at the score screen
• Fixed a bug where buffing enemy demons would alter romance requirements
• Fixed a visual bug where items in your inventory would be loaded over your fighter in the wrong order
• You will no longer enter Sudden Death when an enemy is in its overkill state
• Tweaked the EventRunner so there should no longer be single frame hiccups when the dialogue screen appears
• Enemies will now start with the agility they were meant to have
• You should no longer get heart particles for completing romance quests that are disabled
• You should no longer get a quest notification about completed quests that are disabled
• Fixed a bug where a Gleo quest would appear if you had turned the questline down
• You will only receive a stat-based ending if it's your highest stat
• Fixed a bug where buffing monsters would give them higher difficulty skill loadouts
