Extractor Tools

Greetings lone scientists!

As we touched upon last week, our next handful of posts are going to be focused on a selection of the tools that will be available to the player during your time with Forever Skies.

The first tool that we’ll place under the microscope is the Extractor. Here is it’s in-game description:

“Extracts raw resources from objects remains of mostly homogeneous compositions. Designed to recycle the trash from the environment. Unfortunately, it was a “too late” response to a big problem. It has a short operating range, but you can take it everywhere.”

The Extractors primary function is to breakdown raw materials like metals, glass, synthetic material and more to a molecular level. These materials can then be repurposed into parts needed for your airship and equipment.

Another of its functions is for creating new paths and routes through areas, both above and below the dust. We won’t be showing you anything under the dust just yet, but here you can see the mechanic in action.

This is useful, especially when you’re in a hurry to find vital resources to survive or find new quicker pathways through areas. Not every item/structure can be extracted in Forever Skies. The tool works only on materials that were 3D printed, a technique that was used widely in construction before humanity escaped the surface.

However, the Extractor isn’t the only form of this tool in Forever Skies. Introducing the Heavy Extractor!

While the regular Extractor is useful when exploring locations, its drawback is its short operating range. However, the Heavy Extractor variant doesn’t have this problem. It's incredibly satisfying to set a course on your airship and collect resources with the Heavy Extractor as you fly through ruined skies.

Or why not bring some friends along? You can install as many Heavy Extractors as you wish. Get one of them to steer the airship, while the rest of you zap valuable resources out of the sky!

What are your thoughts on the Extractor variants? Which is your favourite? Be sure to let us know in the comments! We hope you enjoyed this look at the Extractor tools!

The Tools of Forever Skies

An important feature in survival games is having a good variety of useful tools available to the player. Throughout May we will cover a few of the tools at your disposal in Forever Skies.

The Extractor Tool:

The Build Tool:

The Repair Tool:

These are only three tools from a wider variety that will be available to you when you play, but let's keep some of them a surprise for now ;)

We’ll take a look at each tool in more depth over the following weeks, complete with concept art of course!

Which tools design is your favourite? Any feedback? Be sure to let us know!

Game Informer Interview - Lets Talk Forever Skies!

Hello to our awesome community!
Last week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Game Informer to talk all things Forever Skies.

Gameplay Lead Andrzej Blumenfeld and Brand Manager Pawel Jawor discussed among other things, the world of Forever Skies, its different biomes, the games influences our plans for Early Access and beyond.

Probably one of the most important topics discussed, is our original motivation for creating Forever Skies in the first place and how they're based off very real issues happening around the world, but especially in some of the largest Polish cities like Krakow and Warsaw.
...we receive messages on the phone that say, ‘if you can, Please stay at home because going outside is dangerous.' The air is like poison…and this was one of the many things that we were like, ‘yeah, maybe this is a good topic to speak about.’”
- Andrzej Blumendfeld on the reasons for creating Forever Skies.

You can find the full article right here - https://www.gameinformer.com/2022/04/26/forever-skies-why-far-from-home-is-using-early-access-to-develop-its-first-person-post

In addition, we also had the opportunity to discuss the players airship in some more detail and shared an exclusive new screenshot with them:

Thats right....

Two. Balloons.

The more weight you add to your airship as you continue to expand the base, the harder it will be to fly, drastically reducing your movement. The best way to counter this problem is by adding more air! You can simply increase the size of your balloon sure, but why not just add a whole other balloon instead?

If you want a giant airship base, this is the best way to do it!

Your thoughts? Let us know in the comments and don't forget to like this post!

Concept Art - The Lone Scientist

We’ve covered a lot of topics over the last few months with you guys. It’s been a lot of fun getting to show you some of the cool mechanics and visuals in Forever Skies. However, we’ve barely scratched the surface with concept arts! We have many cool concepts and 3D graphics to share with our brilliant community! Let's start by looking at the player character, The Lone Scientist…

These first few images show some early concept ideas of our protagonist. They were created by our incredibly talented concept artist, Monika Jacak.

We wanted the player character's suit to look advanced to protect them from the harsh new world, but also show the nomadic side of the character.

As you know by now, this is the final design we settled on for The Lone Scientist.

But will he be alone? It's important to note that Forever Skies will include up to 4 player co-op, so it’s very possible that we will see some other designs above make it into the game in the future!

What do you think? Do you have a favourite? Sound off in the comments. Which would you like to see added into the game?

Forever Skies Extended Trailer Unveiled!

Greetings everyone! Our extended gameplay trailer just dropped! You can find it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlSYf0M-1Lc

Trailer Breakdown

The new trailer follows our main protagonist; a lone scientist, desperately searching for answers in the aftermath of an ecological disaster in which civilization as we know it on Earth has been completely destroyed. Players must explore ruins above and below the toxic dust in this alien new world, collecting samples and hunting for viral pathogens to find a cure for what remains of humanity, both on foot and in a fully adaptable futuristic airship.

Our protagonist is a scientist on a mission. He’s equipped with an arsenal of tools, many of which you get a glimpse of in the new trailer.

So let's break down the trailer into more detail…

First off, we have the Hand Extractor. This tool gives you the ability to breakdown materials such as metal, glass, synthetic material and others down to a molecular level. These materials can then be repurposed and fabricated into useful items to help you survive or parts for your airship with the Build Tool.

We’ve shown many of the Build Tool functions in previous weeks. From creating entire rooms, walls, doors and more. In the trailer, the lone scientist uses it to materialise a ladder to reach a recently damaged part of their airship.

The dynamic weather in Forever Skies can be unpredictable and unforgivable. Lightning and other factors will damage parts of your airship, preventing it from functioning correctly.

Enter the Repair Tool! This handy piece of hardware can repair damage to your ship's hull and also your equipment using its nano-bot repair foam. It makes a brief appearance in the trailer after lightning damages one of your turbines.

Despite this set back, the journey into the derelict town was worth it, having managed to secure data on the location of a much needed virus strain sample.

The Scanner Tool is incredibly useful. You see it in the trailer being used to extract data from a pre-disaster terminal, but this isn’t the only use. It can also be used to help reverse engineer old technology, identify different types of materials and solve puzzles. It can also be used on organic material too, to give you nutritional information on food that you might find in the world or whether that body of water you just found is safe enough to drink!

A core mechanic of Forever Skies will be collecting virus samples, modifying them to create different pathogens with different effects. By scanning the terminal, the lone scientist discovers what kind of sample it is and its location…under the dust.

Getting under the dust isn’t as simple as lowering your airship's altitude. In fact, we would HIGHLY discourage you from doing that. The dust will cause a lot of damage to your airship's hull. Instead you will be required to locate a surface lift location which can be found dotted around the world, these will take you down to the perilous surface level.

After descending below the dust, you will discover a strange new world, the planet's surface that changed in our absence. Be prepared to face evolved fauna and flora while you explore the surface of what was once our planet.

What did you think of the trailer? Let us know in the comments, we’re always eager to hear your feedback!
