Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #53 Leave your mark on the snow

Welcome to a fifty-three DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hey there, brave prospectors!

Today, we're delving MORE into details about footprints in the snow in Alaska Gold Fever.
Join us as we explore the development of our footprint mechanics and how they can help you track both animals and humans.

"Always leave your mark"

Our goal was to make every step in the snow look and feel realistic.
Using Unity's tools, we developed a mechanic that allows for clear, visible footprints in the snow.

Tracking Your Own Path

Your footprints aren't just for show – they're a survival tool.
Here's how they can help:
-Finding Your Way Back: Easily retrace your steps back to your camp.
-Exploring New Areas: Footprints help you map out the areas you've already explored.
-Tracking Others: Follow the footprints of other prospectors to uncover interesting finds or potential dangers (wild animals or wild... humans?)
"What? Whose footprints are these?"

The snow doesn't just remember your steps – it also records the movements of animals. Tracking animal footprints is crucial for hunting and wildlife observation.

Discover tracks of deer or moose that can lead to bountiful hunts.

Bear tracks and other predator footprints (wolfes) can warn you of potential threats.

Creating realistic footprints required advanced technology. Thanks to Unity, footprints can appear and disappear dynamically based on weather conditions and player activity.

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #52 Camping in the Wilds

Welcome to a fifty-two DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hey there, brave prospectors!

Today, we're setting up camp and leaving our mark on the wild landscape of Alaska Gold Fever.
Join us as we dive into the creation of tents and the mechanics of leaving footsteps on the grass!

Shelter in the Wild

Can you set up a tent? i can but i will not go to the mountains to do it ;)

Tents – your portable home away from home. In Alaska Gold Fever, we’ve made sure that setting up a tent is both easy and rewarding

Take a look of how we made this in 3D program.

Yes, an artist must use real life photos as a references ;)

Tents and camping play crucial role in our game. Rest and recovery in the wildness is important!

Footprint Mechanics: Leaving Your Mark

I've wanted to show you something interesting: our little "footprints" mechanics.
You can leave your mark if you go througt tall grass. Bandits can track you down easily because of that! But footprints can be used for your advantage... to hunt wild animals (or bandits...) !

i just love some interesting environmental interactions :D
I hope this short GIF shows it.

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #51 Climbing and Mountain Levels

Welcome to a fifty-one DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!

Hey there, brave prospectors!

Long time no see ;) But we are back!!
New series of devlogs are "in baking" so be prepared! And also be prepared for some GOOD NEWS in the near future ;)

Today, we're scaling new heights in Alaska Gold Fever with a deep dive into our climbing mechanics.
Grab your gear and join us as we explore the three types of terrain you'll conquer in the wilds!

Scaling the Heights

First things first – let's talk about the climbing itself. In Alaska Gold Fever, we've made sure that scaling cliffs and mountains is as thrilling as it is in real life (minus the real-life risks, of course!)

It's still a WIP but you can see how it will basically work.

Some surfaces are climable just by hands but other ones require special equipment.
You can gain it in story quests!

Terrain Types

Now, let’s break down the three types of terrain you'll face:

-Normal Terrain: This is your entry-level zone. Think gentle slopes and rolling hills – perfect for getting the hang of things.

-Colder Terrain (High Lands): Step it up a notch with colder terrain. As you climb higher, the air gets crisper, and the terrain gets trickier. Here, you'll encounter frosty rocks and icy patches that require a bit more finesse. You will need a pair of warm jacket. It's not that hard to survive there.

-The Coldest Terrain (Mountain Peaks): This is where the true adventure begins. The highest, coldest peaks are a test of endurance and skill. Expect snow-covered ledges and biting winds.

Please notice how landscape is sublty changing. In high lands you will start to encounter yellow/bronze foliage or snow covered trees. At mountain peaks there will be mostly snow and dead plants. Colors changes as well as challenges...
