Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #86 - Assets Showcase

Welcome to a eighty-six DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]
Hello, explorers and adventurers!

Today we’re lifting the snowy curtain on something shiny, rattly, and occasionally explosive: our brand-new assets.

Assets or "Props" felt too serious, and calling them “miscellaneous environmental interactable objects” is too much, don't you think?

Let’s dig into what’s new in the world of Alaskan treasure hunting:
🪣 Gold Panning Buckets
The trusty bucket-your best friend when chasing the dream of instant riches. Perfect for scooping gold… or for panicking when a bear appears and you need something to hide behind.
🥫 Survival Rations Can
A mysterious can of food with a label that may or may not describe what’s inside. Beans? Meat? Fish? Hope itself? Only one way to find out…
💥 Gunpowder Sack
A delightful bundle of danger. Great for mining, questionable for carrying around near campfires. Handle with enthusiasm and absolutely no caution.
📜 Paper & Cloth
Essential supplies: for wrapping, repairing, lighting, or writing dramatic notes like “Gone gold prospectin"
🔫 Rifle & Revolver
When diplomacy fails, but firepower succeeds. Rugged frontier firearms, perfect for keeping your gold safe or settling debates about who stole whose shovel.

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #85 - Meet the Pastor

Welcome to a eighty-five DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]
Hello, explorers and adventurers!

⛪ Meet the Pastor: The Calm Voice in a Chaotic Gold Rush

In today’s devlog, we’re introducing someone a little different from the rough miners, rowdy hunters, and chaotic townsfolk you’ve met so far. Say hello to our new character: the Pastor - a man in black, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, round glasses, and an expression permanently stuck somewhere between “blessing you” and “disapproving of your life choices.”

A Stylish Man of the Cloth

The Pastor comes dressed in classic frontier fashion:

-long black coat (perfect for dramatic wind moments),

-old-school preacher hat,

-and glasses that somehow always catch the light like he’s about to reveal a prophecy.

Behind the Scenes: Bringing Him to Life

This character was surprisingly fun to develop. The coat physics tried to escape his body at least twice and a
hat didn’t want to stay on his head.

Eventually, we got him looking like a proper frontier pastor.

What’s His Role? Well… Not Yet.

Right now, the Pastor doesn’t have a final role assigned expect few quests. Maybe he’ll guide players morally. Maybe he’ll just judge your spending habits.

Chilly DevLogs from Alaska ! #84 New Townsfolk Incoming!

Welcome to a eighty-four DevLog for Alaska Gold Fever!
[p]
Hello, explorers and adventurers!

🎨 Meet the Three New Faces (and One Missing Some Hair)

Today’s devlog is all about people - or, more precisely, three new characters we’ve recently brought to life in 3D. They don’t have names or jobs yet, but hey, everyone has to start somewhere!

From Polygons to Personalities

Creating NPCs is a multi-step journey: sculpting in 3D, texturing, hair & beard simulations, and importing everything into Unity without breaking the universe.

We use a mix of tools for the process - Blender, Substance, and a sprinkle of Unity magic. Sometimes the characters come out perfect. Other times… they come out bald.

The Case of the Balding NPC

One of our new residents started with a full head of glorious hair. Then, somewhere between Blender and Unity, half of it just… vanished. We’re calling it “early access hair loss.” Don’t worry - it’s not contagious to other characters!

No Jobs Yet, Just Vibes

At this point, these three NPCs don’t have specific roles in the town. They’re just hanging around, enjoying small-town life, waiting for their assignments.

Next step: giving these folks something to do. Maybe one becomes a trader, another a blacksmith, and the balding guy? Probably the barber. Seems fair ;)
