Roots & Remedies Update Patch is now live!

Hello, witches!

Our Roots & Remedies Update Patch has been moved onto the main branch and is now ready for everybody to play!

This patch features lots of fixes and polishes that should make your time in the woodlands even more enjoyable! Thanks so much to everyone who tested this update on the Beta branch, it was super helpful.

You can read more on what's coming to the patch below, but first we'd like to mention a few important points:

Siva Shrine: If you are on 'Becoming the Herbal Witch' but you still have an unfinished Siva shrine on your map, you can just travel to the next map. You have already completed it and don't need to do it again.
Or if you'd like to go with a save file where you haven't completed the shrine yet, talking to Baba Jaga will often help complete the quest.

Button Mapping: We have gotten reports of Button Mapping Settings changing randomly. If you are experiencing issues where some keys don't do what there supposed to please let us know and reset your Button Mapping Settings if needed.

Optimisation: From what players have reported, it should mostly be the first map in the tutorial of the game that is suffering with frame rate issues. This is unfortunate and we apologize, but from the second map onwards our testers have experienced the game running normally. We will continue to investigate ways to fix this, and want to thank you all for bearing with us!

  • The time since the last save is now displayed in the pause screen.


[h3]Performance:[/h3]
  • Reduced time and resources needed at the beginning of the game when loading dependencies
  • Reduced time it takes to open the journal
  • The map screen will now update gradually after opening it
  • The collection will now only be loaded in when you click on the collection button, or your journal was previously closed while looking at the collection
  • Improved performance of the pine stick cleanse VFX
  • Improved performance of the chimney smoke VFX
  • Improved performance when switching use items
  • Post Processing performance optimization
  • Implemented distance based animation frame throttling. Far away characters or animals now play their animations on a lower framerate, reducing load on the GPU

  • Fixed Terrain sinking resulting in floating assets
  • Fixed Terrain rising resulting in buried assets
  • Fixed Lumberjacks vanishing from Trial of the Forest Spirit Clearing
  • Fixed Lantern and/or Pine Branch being stuck in Hand
  • Fixed watering can disappearing
  • Fixed Tutorial prompts that are in the level not rotating towards camera
  • Fixed Cursor resetting to the center of the screen after every dialogue option
  • Disabled quick-saving during dialogues or popups, which was the cause for a lot of broken save games. The game will now display “ cannot save right now” in those cases.
  • Made it impossible for some dialogues to interrupt others in rare cases leading to unresponsive NPCs
  • Improved consistency of saving for POIs
  • Confirming a popup doesn't advance dialogue anymore
  • Fixed some sound issues
  • Fixed someone saying: “Chapter_Harvest_SidePOI/Artist/Weather/NoWind_02”
  • Fixed the animation for the charm during the Tutorial Ritual not functioning properly
  • Fixed some loot sacks not being interactable
  • Fixed some Honeycombs not being collectable
  • Fixed cursed object interaction being visible too early
  • Removed the mysterious floating pantry in the woods
  • Fixed navigation issues for settings sliders with controller
  • Fixed a variety of items (Some that you couldn’t place, Some that you couldn’t pick up)
  • Moved some items into the right categories
  • Fixed the Toilet not opening
  • Fixed the Home Cleansing point of interest. Players should now be able to properly cleanse the
  • home with a pine stick to reveal the black salt corners.
  • Fixed a bug that caused players to be stuck in the zoomed in mode of the bird use item, if the “Toggle Aim” option was turned on.
  • Added an additional safety to make Leshy appear at the tree when you collect one of the cones, if he hasn’t appeared yet
  • Fixed green apple
  • Fixed travel screen appearing empty
  • Fixed Leshy deer journal log appearing on later maps
  • Fixed saving for plants at siva poi
  • Fixed edge case where players watered plants before Baba Jaga told them to

Beta Build Patch: 0.6.19.bb2239.

For those of you who are playing on the Beta Branch, here's a couple updates we've made based on your feedback!

We'll be aiming to update this build onto the public branch later this week.

- Added an additional safety to make Leshy appear at the tree when you collect one of the cones, if he hasn’t appeared yet
- Fixed green apple
- Fixed travel screen appearing empty
- Fixed Leshy deer journal log appearing on later maps
- Fixed saving for plants at siva poi
- Fixed edge case where players watered plants before baba jaga told them to

Dev Update: Upcoming Bug Fixes

Hello, witches!

We just wanted to jump on here and firstly say a big thank you to everyone who has left us feedback since our Roots & Remedies Update launched. It's been really helpful in pointing us in the right direction of where we should be focusing our efforts.

With your feedback we have already fixed the crows not collecting wood, so please do continue to let us know if you spot anything odd! (Click here to use our Bug Report form)

[h3]So, what's next for REKA? [/h3]

Our goal is for REKA to be a relaxing and immersive experience, and a game where you can escape and live your witchy life in the woodlands with your chicken-legged home. It's so important to us that REKA is an enjoyable experience for everyone, and we're taking your reviews and comments very seriously.

While adding more content and story to REKA is still very much part of our plan for Early Access and beyond, we're going to be spending some time polishing and bug fixing to ensure you can play the game with as few hiccups as possible.

[h3]Coming to our next patch, we're aiming to have ironed out:[/h3]

  • Fixed terrain level - No more floating or sunken assets!
  • Fixed items like the Pine Branch and Lantern getting stuck in hand
  • Fixed Lumberjacks vanishing from Trial of the Forest Spirit Clearing
  • Drastically reduced time and resources needed at the beginning of the game when loading dependencies (This should help players who were having issues loading the game)
  • Drastically reduced time taken to open the Journal, as well as a couple other journal tweaks.


[h3]The latest with optimization [/h3]

We hear you. Throughout our journey developing REKA, optimization has presented us with a few unforeseen challenges. We've been working through this, but there is a much bigger problem which is causing performance issues with the first map.

From what players have reported, it should only be the first map in the tutorial of the game that is suffering with frame rate issues. This is unfortunate and we apologize, but from the second map onwards our testers have experienced the game running normally. We will continue to investigate ways to fix this, and want to thank you all for bearing with us!
