Devlog#5: Introducing puzzle element - Pushable Box

Greetings! Today, we share our first puzzle element in the FC Zone - the pushable box.

We wanted to create a tool that allowed the player to overcome challenges and obstacles while feeling engaged in the gameplay. That is why we implemented the pushable box as a versatile and reliable object that the player can use to solve puzzles and navigate the game world.

The pushable box is a physics-based object with realistic weight distribution and force simulation. This design ensures that the player must apply the appropriate amount of force to move the box in the desired direction. Moreover, this approach offers a realistic and immersive experience for the player.

The pushable box functions as a platform. The player can jump on top of the box, allowing them to reach higher locations or access areas that would be inaccessible otherwise. The box can also serve as a climbing tool to help players traverse over obstacles.

Additionally, the pushable box can trigger pressure-sensitive buttons or activate machinery, making it an essential tool for advancing through the game. The box's presence in the game has multiple purposes, making it a versatile and valuable game mechanic.

Devlog#4: Puzzle Concept

Coming up with the puzzles for Lost twins 2 was exciting, as well as challenging. We were looking for a game which will challenge players. The idea was to navigate through a world of interconnected blocks that could be shuffled around to reach different parts of the environment. Hence, we started off with dividing the game world into blocks, which can be shuffled and matched to create new paths and obstacles. Each block has a unique design and function, ranging from basic platforms to complex puzzles that can be activated with the right combination of movements.

Here’s a look at how we started with making the puzzles. We divided the levels into 3 blocks and placed platforms and other elements for a prototype design

Creating some levels initially, we playtested them to see if it was what we were looking for. We got a lot of feedback and some fun ideas to try out. To make things even more interesting, we decided to add the feature of character switching. The players were now able to switch between their two characters at any time which added more of a challenge and difficulty to these puzzles as they had to rely on both characters to help each other navigate through the levels. For example, one character might need to activate a switch to open a door, while the other must quickly move through the newly-opened path before it closes again.

After considering all the features we wanted to include, we decided to add a zooming function to the puzzle game. This new feature allowed players to shuffle the blocks while in the zoomout view, and then zoom in for a closer look at individual blocks to solve the puzzle. By incorporating this zooming function, players could better manipulate the blocks and gain a more precise view of the puzzle.

Overall, we believe that this puzzle game concept offers a unique and engaging experience for players who enjoy challenges that require both strategy and skill. We are excited to continue developing this game, and can't wait to see how players respond to its innovative gameplay mechanics. Stay tuned for more updates on our progress!

Devlog#3: Frozen Castle Concept Inspiration

This week we delve into the concepts for our first zone - Frozen Castle. We wanted to create a compelling and engaging game and the Frozen Castle, being the first zone of the game, was critical to set the tone and establish the game's core mechanics. It was essential to ensure that it seamlessly transitioned from the opening sequence to provide players with a consistent and cohesive experience.

For the Frozen Castle zone, we aimed to create an environment that evoked the look and feel of an old British-era castle. We drew inspiration from various historical castles and estates, including those found in the United Kingdom. We looked at the architectural details, such as the turrets, walls, and gates, to ensure that they reflect the style.

The transition from the opening level to the Frozen Castle zone was a crucial aspect of the game's narrative and gameplay experience. While the opening level features a bright, colorful, and cozy environment, the Frozen Castle zone provides a stark contrast with its cold, empty, and melancholic visual design. This contrast helps build a sense of mystery and establishes that the players are now far away from their home.

The use of a subdued color palette in the Frozen Castle zone also plays a critical role in keeping the focus on the game's fundamental concepts and mechanics. By minimizing distractions through the use of a muted color palette, players can more effectively engage with the game's elements and gameplay mechanics. This approach helped create a gameplay experience that is both immersive and challenging, drawing players into the game's world and mechanics while providing an exciting and rewarding experience.

We included various elements to add to the game's sense of mystery and intrigue, such as the mystery of who turned on the lanterns in the castle or the large egg shell found in one of the zone levels. We added this detail to add to the overall atmosphere of the zone and keep an element of exploration and discovery about the game's world and its secrets. The zone's design also features a gradual transition from the outside to the inside of the castle featuring different times of the day

Devlog#2: FTUE Concept Art

Welcome to our latest devlog, where we're excited to share our concept art for our first time user experience. Our team has been hard at work creating artwork that will help bring this new level to life, and we're thrilled to give you a sneak peek of what we've been working on.

Whether you're a fellow game developer, a fan of our work, or simply curious about the game development process, we hope you'll find this devlog informative and entertaining. Let's dive in.

The beginning of the game finds the two twins in their individual bedrooms. To create unique and functional spaces for both Abi and Ben, we divided each room into three parts: a sleeping area, a library, and a play area. To support a cozy atmosphere, we made sure to incorporate windows into each section to allow for natural lighting and ventilation.

In Abi's room, we decided to add a feminine touch to the design. We shaped the room into a heart shape and focused on using soft pink tones throughout the space. This not only adds a playful and whimsical feel to the room, but it also creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. We believe that the design of Abi's room will perfectly reflect her personality, while also providing a comfortable and functional space for her to enjoy.

When it came to designing Ben's room, our goal was to create a space that was both unique and functional. After drawing inspiration from the spiral staircase in our office, we decided to incorporate a similar design element into the room. We loved the playful and space-saving nature of spiral staircases, so it made sense to include it in Ben's room.

To make the space more fitting for a boy's room, we changed the color palette to a cool blue shade. This complemented the other design elements in the room and created a calming effect that was perfect for a space that should be both relaxing and fun.

As we continued with the overall design of the twins' bedrooms, we knew that creating a space to connect the two rooms was an essential part of the design process. We decided that this space would hold the artifacts of the twins' parents, which would add a meaningful and personal touch to the design and create a sense of connection between the twins.

To begin the design process, we created a range of concept designs for the space. Our goal was to create a functional space that also felt warm and welcoming, seamlessly tying the two bedrooms together. To achieve this, we experimented with various color palettes, textures, and lighting options, aiming to create a cozy atmosphere that would feel like a natural extension of the twins' bedrooms.

We were thrilled with the outcome of the concept designs, as they successfully captured the essence of our vision for the space.

After finalizing the concept design for the space between the twins' bedrooms, we decided to make some adjustments to the initial design. We wanted to add a bit more depth to the space, so we pushed the wall back slightly to create more room for the artifacts of the twins' parents. This way, we were able to create a more spacious and open feel, which we felt was important for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. This also gave us more flexibility in terms of arranging the artifacts and allowed us to showcase them in the best possible way.

We're thrilled to share these updates with you and hope you're as excited as we are about the progress of our game.
