Light Odyssey - Devlog

Hello, everyone!
[p][/p][p]Welcome to our last devlog of 2025![/p][p][/p][p]While The Game Awards happened, Divinity got announced, and Metroid Prime 4 finally got released after its E3 announcement 8 years ago, a lot has happened for Light Odyssey. As a result, we'd love to wrap up December with you and look back at some of our favorite highlights of 2025![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Kitalpha
[p][/p][p]For starters, we made a ton of progress this month on Kitalpha. It's a Colossus that we briefly showed in last month's devlog and one that has been rapidly brought to life since. (Though, those who follow us on Twitter or BlueSky might have seen the progress already piece by piece. 😁)[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Kitalpha represents the star Alpha Equulei and is more dangerous than any of the previous Colossi you've seen thus far. In particular, we've iterated on Kitalpha's AI to make it both smarter and faster; ensuring you have a proper challenge as you make progress and get better at the game.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We also recognize that the Colossi don't always react to players standing close to their feet (or torso in the case of Aldebaran), which makes the boss fights easier and less immersive. Because of this, wé're simultaneously making improvements to the AI of all Colossi to resolve this.[/p][p][/p][p]Beyond this, we've been hard at work to develop 3 other Colossi. You've already met one of them in our previous November Devlog called Alpha Cen, which is nearly finished. As for the others, we ask for some patience as we'll share more updates with you in the coming months. 😇[/p][p][/p]
2025 in Review
[p] [/p][p]All in all, It's been a hectic year but also a very fruitful one. While we worked a lot of overtime, 2025 once again reminded us how much dedication indie game development requires. Still, we’re excited about the current state of Light Odyssey and can’t wait for you all to experience the full game.[/p][p][/p][p]Some of our favorite highlights of 2025 are:[/p]
 • [p]Joining Steam Next Fest and releasing a public demo[/p]
 • [p]Exhibiting at gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, Taipei Game Show, BitSummit, and G-Star[/p]
 • [p]Fixing so many bugs and overall gameplay issues with the help of your feedback[/p]
[p][/p][p]Lastly, we want to thank each and every one of you for all your support up until this point. We're almost entering the final stretch of our Odyssey (very cheesy, sorry) and we hope you'll stick around. [/p][p][/p][p]For now, we wish you a happy New Year![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p] Add to Wishlist[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Light Odyssey - Release Schedule Update

[p][/p]
Hello, everyone
[p][/p][p]Unfortunately, we've had to make the difficult decision to delay the release of Light Odyssey. While we had hoped to release in Q4 of 2025, we are now aiming for a release somewhere in 2026.[/p][p][/p][p]We're truly sorry for this delay and realize that this news is both frustrating and disappointing to those who were patiently waiting all this time. We sincerely hope to make amends with you over time and want to help you understand why we made this decision; and how we aim to avoid any further delays.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]In particular, 2025 will mark the biggest year yet for the indie game industry as over 18,000+ indie games are estimated to be released on Steam alone. With that, the challenges of getting noticed as an indie and being able to sustain a game’s development have increased alongside it.[/p][p][/p][p]To ensure Light Odyssey rises above the noise, we’ve had to focus a lot of our resources into attending events and showcases all across the world. As a team of 5, this means that instead of focusing solely on development, we occasionally had to step away to ensure people knew about the game.[/p][p][/p][p]This then also meant that as our community grew and more feedback came in, more time needed to be spent on fixing bugs, optimizing performance, and polishing core mechanics.[/p][p][/p][p]To compensate for all this, we worked overtime each and every day in an attempt to finish Light Odyssey on time. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we now have to face the fact that we need more time for development so that we get to release Light Odyssey with the vision that we intended for it.[/p][p][/p]

[p]
Right now, we've reprioritized internally to accelerate development and are currently on track to release in 2026. We pledge to be more transparent with you during this process to ensure you are as confident in the development process as we are.

For now, here's our general roadmap for 2026:[/p][p][/p]
2026-Q1: Adding The Remaining Colossi
• [p]3 Fire-themed Colossi[/p]
 • [p]4 Additional Colossi[/p]
[p][/p]
2026-Q2: Adding Exploration & Polishing
• [p]Puzzles and challenges[/p]
 • [p]Cutscenes[/p]
 • [p]Bug Fixes and Polishing[/p][p] [/p]

[p][/p][p]Once again, we sincerely apologize and hope you understand. We know our words won't change how frustrating a delay can be and we will try our best to make it up to you. Light Odyssey is a truly special game to us and we remain devoted to ensuring it meets and exceeds your expectations. [/p][p][/p][p]We thank you for all your support,[/p][p]—The Light Odyssey Team[/p]

Light Odyssey - Devlog

Hello, everyone!
[p][/p][p]It's been a while since our last devlog but here we meet again![/p][p][/p][p]As GTA 6 got delayed and Hytale got revived, November has proven to be a very eventful month for the games industry; including for Light Odyssey. In particular, we've been hard at work to expand the game with not 1, not 2, but 4 new boss fights. As a result, we got a bunch to update you on! 🥳[/p][p][/p]
Alpha Cen
[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As you might have seen on our socials, the next boss to step into the light is Alpha Cen. Despite having only one hand, it's more agile, reckless, and determined than its predecessors. For the time being, here's some behind-the-scenes footage of its first phase:[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Those who experienced Light Odyssey at Tokyo Game Show in 2024, might remember an early alpha version of Alpha Cen (pun intended). Since then, it's been completely remade in terms of attacks, sound design, atmosphere, and balance. We can't wait to share the new design with you! 😁 [/p][p][/p]
Colossi in Development
[p][/p][p]Without spoiling too much, here's another glimpse at what we've been working on. As you progress through Light Odyssey, the Colossi you'll face will become increasingly more powerful as they'll deal stronger and larger attacks. We hope you like the new challenges that these will bring:[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As all the Colossi represent a different theme, we've recently been diving into the theme of Fire. It's a stark contrast between this and the current themes that you can encounter in the demo so it's been fun experimenting with a new atmosphere and new attacks. 😄[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]At the same time, this year we've showcased Light Odyssey all over the world and debuted our demo on Steam; receiving a substantial amount of feedback in the process. A frequent point of critique is the lack of difficulty and variety in the second phases of the current Colossi.[/p][p][/p][p]Because of this, while designing Alpha Cen and its colossal buddies, we have your input top of mind and will try our best to exceed your expectations. In case you still have some thoughts but didn't feel like sharing them, don't hesitate to tell us anyways by using the Feedback Form![/p][p][/p]
What's Next?
[p][/p][p]As for December, our focus is set on expanding these 4 Colossi to get closer to finalizing the boss rush core of Light Odyssey. We have a bunch of other features prototyped that we hope to share with you soon thereafter; but for now, you'll have to wait a little longer until the December devlog![/p][p][/p][p]Don't like waiting? WELL, we've recently also been expanding our content on both Twitter and BlueSky so if you're on there, come drop us a follow to get exclusive teasers every now and then. 😉[/p][p][/p][p]Thank you for all your support![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p] Add to Wishlist[/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Light Odyssey - PATCH 0.0.3
Hello, everyone!
[p][/p][p]Another week, another patch notes post! We still have plenty to work on but will try to roll these out frequently while the demo is still up (until mid-November)![/p][p][/p]
Balancing
[p]While we're figuring out the right challenge for players, we want this demo to be more accessible so that everyone is able to finish it and get a better taste of Light Odyssey. Once upcoming systems are in place related to the Heal ability, this will most definitely change again. [/p]
 • [p]Improved some bosses’ special attack hitboxes by ensuring they reset properly.[/p]
 • [p]You now start with more healing potions in the "Demo" difficulty.[/p]
[p][/p]
Major Fix
• [p]Fixed an issue where hitboxes failed to disappear after staggering a boss or parrying its attacks.[/p]
[p][/p]
Minor Fix
• [p]Improved confusing shadows in certain battlefields.[/p]
 • [p]Adjusted visual effects in some arenas that previously obscured the screen.[/p]
 • [p]Refined the visual presentation for the Tutorial Challenge boss.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed an issue where the cursor could move outside the game window.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed an issue where the “Quit Game” option in the pause menu could not be used.[/p]
 • [p]Fixed an issue where input key prompts were not displaying correctly during dialogue cutscenes.[/p]
 • [p]Adjusted the time-scale effect when taking damage for a smoother experience.[/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][p]We hope you like the changes. If you feel like something's missing and have not already told us, please fill out our Feedback Form, Bug Report Form, or leave a message in our Discord![/p][p][/p][p]Thank you for all your support![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]
