Lootun Deep Dive #5: Building Upgrades & Professions

Welcome to Lootun Deep Dive #5. This week we will be looking at the Building Upgrades and Profession systems in Lootun.

Building Upgrades:

As you progress through Lootun you will unlock the ability to construct and upgrade certain buildings. Constructing these building will require many different types of crafting materials and currencies. Constructing these buildings will unlock new gameplay features and upgrade existing features to be more powerful.
Scrapper:
The Scrapper is a very important building that you will want to construct as soon as possible. The Scrapper will unlock the ability to salvage your spare equipment, which in turn will provide materials that you can use to construct more buildings. Further upgrades into the Scrapper will grant the ability to automatically salvage items of a lower quality.
Blacksmith:
The Blacksmith is a key building for those wishing to craft or upgrade equipment. As you upgrade the Blacksmith to higher ranks you will unlock powerful tools for upgrading your equipment.
Barracks:
The Barracks is a very important building for players intending to make full use of Lootun’s automation features. Upgrading the Barracks will grant the ability to automatically cast all of your skills and select the auto targeting priority for each character.

Professions:

The professions system in Lootun provides a way to passively obtain crafting materials. Once you have constructed the Profession Hall you will be able to upgrade the profession specific buildings Mine, Forest and Farm. Upgrading these buildings will grant additional worker slots and provide the ability to gather higher tier materials.
Harvesting:
Once you have unlocked a profession you will begin to automatically acquire materials based on what tier you have set your workers to harvest. By default each harvest will take 20 seconds to complete but this can be sped up with upgrades.
Tools:
Once you have unlocked a profession you will begin to occasionally receive profession tools from slaying monsters. These tools follow the standard rarity system in Lootun but have their own set of tool specific attributes. Tool attributes can grant significant bonuses to your material gathering rate.
Rare Materials:
As you harvest materials you will have a small chance to obtain rare materials. These rare materials can be used to craft gems and flasks. The chance to find rare materials can be improved by finding tools with the right attributes.
Material Donations:
Once you have constructed the Community Project building you will be able to donate spare materials in exchange for a new currency, Donation Credits.
Donation Passives:
Donation Credits can be used to upgrade a variety of material and profession related passives. Allowing you to acquire more materials and higher quality tools.

Lootun Deep Dive #4: Missions & Combat

Welcome to Lootun Deep Dive #4. This week we will be looking at the missions and combat system that Lootun has to offer.

Missions:

Missions in Lootun are a collection of Monsters and Bosses that you can send your adventurers to go face alone or in a team of up to 3. Lootun currently offers 15 campaign missions and several post campaign missions that offer greater difficulty and rewards.
Mission Expertise:
Most missions in Lootun are comprised of 15 stages, culminating in 1 Boss stage. As you complete these stages you will gain Mission Expertise which can be spent on passive upgrades allowing you to augment the challenge and rewards granted by each mission.
Adventurers:
You may select a team of up to 3 adventurers to tackle each mission. In addition, with enough building upgrades constructed, you may take up to 4 flasks to each mission to aid you in combat.
Adventurer and flask loadouts can be saved, allowing for you to easily send your favourite teams off to run new missions.
Monsters:
Each Mission stage will pit you against a number of monsters that you must defeat in order to progress to the next stage. The number of monsters you face will be determined by the number of adventurers you have sent to clear the mission.

Lootun currently has over 80 different monsters each with their own set of abilities and item drops providing a large variety of combat possibilities.
Monster Rarity:
As you progress through Lootun you will begin to encounter Magic, Rare or even Nemesis monsters. These monsters have more hp and deal more damage than their regular counterparts but provide extra rewards for defeating them including exclusive item drops. Nemesis monsters in particular are very challenging to defeat but reward very powerful items that will roll with higher than normal attribute ranks.
Monster Empowerments:
In addition to monster rarity, monsters can be Empowered meaning all of their skills will deal a specific damage type corresponding to their empowerment. Empowered monsters also gain a new skill based off their empowerment type and can drop exclusive elemental themed equipment.
Bosses:
Upon reaching the final stage of a mission you will be faced with a Boss. Bosses are challenging monsters with a high hp pool and a variety of powerful abilities. Should you be successful in defeating a boss however you will be well rewarded in the form of a Reward Chest.
Reward Chests:
Reward Chests provide an item of a certain quality based on the quality of the chest. Reward chests typically reward weapons but also have a high chance to reward monster exclusive drops. Reward chests also have a high chance to provide a bonus Class / Ascendancy Relic.

Combat:

Combat is Lootun is a mostly automated battle between your adventurers and the mission monsters.
Buffs / Debuffs:
As you progress through a mission you will likely find that abilities used by your adventurers or the monsters are granting buffs and debuffs. Buffs and Debuffs are generally temporary increases or reductions to attributes.
Auto Casting:
By default your adventurers will charge up and use their default attacks automatically allowing you to progress through missions with limited or no interaction required. As you unlock Cooldown Skills you will gain the ability to manually cast these skills at strategic moments providing the ability to push further into a mission than you might otherwise have been able to. Alternatively with some early game upgrades you will be able to set these Cooldown Skills to be automatically cast allowing you to focus your efforts on managing your incoming equipment, or even leaving the game running on it’s own should you wish to.
Auto Restarting:
In addition to automated casting Lootun offers a number of options for automatically restarting missions should you be defeated. This is exceptionally useful once you have multiple missions running at once as each team of adventurers will be capable of looking after themselves.

Lootun Deep Dive #3: Salvaging & Crafting

Welcome to Lootun Deep Dive #3. This week we will be looking at the salvaging and crafting system that Lootun has to offer and how you can use this to create powerful equipment.

Salvaging:

Salvaging is a key component of progression in Lootun as it allows you to turn your unwanted equipment into valuable resources that allow you to craft new equipment or upgrade your existing pieces.

Equipment can be manually salvaged by placing them into the scrapper.
Auto Salvaging:
Lootun also offers a feature called the “Auto Scrapper” that allows for certain rules to be setup so that items are automatically salvaged without entering your inventory. This tool will be particularly useful as you progress through the game and begin to more consistently find items of higher rarities.
Materials:
Salvaging equipment will yield a variety of materials useful for crafting and upgrading your items.
Profession Materials:
These are generic materials that can be obtained from salvaging based on the type of item being salvaged. These materials are also required to craft equipment and can also be obtained from the Profession system that will be covered in a future Deep Dive.
Rarity Cores:
Each item salvaged will yield at least one core of its given rarity. These rarity cores play an important part in crafting new equipment or upgrading existing equipment.
Attribute Shards:
As you salvage items with attributes you will obtain offensive, defensive and utility shards that can be used to upgrade and reroll the attributes of existing items. The number of shards you receive is dependant on the quantity and the rank of the attributes on the equipment you salvage.
Socket Shards:
Once you begin to receive socketed equipment salvaging them will reward Socket Shards which in turn can be used to add sockets to your existing items that lack them.
Enchanting Reagents:
High level bosses will occasionally drop items that are enchanted with a unique, powerful, modifier. Salvaging enchanted items will reward enchanting powder and crystals which in turn can be used to add enchants of your choice to your existing equipment.

Crafting:

Crafting is a key feature in Lootun and is split into two main components.
Equipment Crafting:
As you loot and salvage equipment many of the pieces you find will unlock the ability to be crafted at the Blacksmith. Items can be crafted up to Epic quality and may be crafted up to the maximum level you have achieved. Crafting each piece of equipment will require some profession materials and some rarity cores depending on the item and rarity you wish to craft.
Upgrading:
Upgrading equipment is a key part of progression in Lootun, as you obtain equipment you can reroll or upgrade the attributes on the item to provide even more power or defence to your adventurers.
Reroll Item Attributes:
Re-rolling attributes requires a rarity core and some attribute shards depending on which attributes the item already has. Re-rolling attributes will allow you to completely customise the attributes provided by your equipment and can be used with the Lock Attributes craft to remove unnecessary randomness when trying to create the perfect item.
Randomise Item Attribute Ranks:
Randomising attributes ranks also requires a rarity core and some attribute shards based on the attributes present on the item. Randomise attribute ranks will reroll the rank of each attribute between the minimum natural rank for the item and to slightly above the maximum natural rank. This crafting option can be used to cheaply raise the power of your equipment without needing to invest all of your attribute shards. Once an attribute receives it’s maximum possible rank through randomising it will no longer be reduced in rank by future randomise crafts.
Lock Attributes:
Locking attributes will cost rarity cores and some attribute shards depending on the attribute you wish to lock. Once an attribute is locked it cannot be removed from the item via the Reroll Item Attributes craft. This allows you to deterministically craft your perfect item over time as you gather the materials. Locked attributes can also be unlocked if required.
Upgrade Item Attributes:
Upgrading attributes will cost attribute shards based on the type of attribute to upgrade. The Upgrade Item Attributes craft will upgrade the selected attribute rank by 1 each craft. Each attribute rank will cost an increasing number of shards so make sure to evenly upgrade your attributes if you are short on shards.
Add Sockets:
Add Sockets will cost socket shards depending on the number of sockets already present on the equipment and can be used to add sockets to a piece of equipment up to the maximum number of sockets available on the equipment slot.
Enchants:
As you progress through the game you will obtain rare Enchant Scrolls that can be used to learn the recipe for a specific enchant. Once an enchant recipe is learned the enchant can be freely crafted onto any appropriate piece of equipment you own.

Together these crafting options will allow you to deterministically create extremely powerful equipment allowing you to take on even more challenging and rewarding content.

Lootun Deep Dive #2: Equipment

Welcome to the second episode of Lootun Deep Dive. This week we will be taking a look at the equipment system that Lootun has to offer and how you can expect to interact with it. Due to the length of this deep dive information regarding salvaging and crafting has been moved to next week.

Equipment:

Each character in Lootun can equip up to 16 different pieces of equipment granting them increased damage and defence.

Most equipment in Lootun is obtained from slaying monsters and completing missions. In general there are two types of equipment to be found.
Default Equipment:
Default equipment can be dropped from any monster and will be one of 6 tiers depending on the level of the monster slain.
Special Equipment:
Most monsters and bosses in Lootun have one or more drops that are specific to them, these are considered to be “Special Equipment”. These items can only be obtained from their associated monster or boss reward chest allowing for the ability to target farm items. In general Special Equipment is more powerful than Default Equipment.
Rarity:
There are currently 5 different rarities of equipment to collect; Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary and Mythical. Each rarity tier will increase the base stats of the item (Weapon Damage, Armour, etc) in addition to granting a higher number of attributes.
Attributes:
Each piece of equipment will have 2-6 randomly assigned attributes based on the equipments rarity. In addition each attribute will have a rank shown by the [x/10] indicator to the left of the attribute name and value. Each attribute rank will grant an additional 10% of the base attribute stat. By default higher rarity equipment will generate with higher attribute ranks.
Bonus Attribute:
Most equipment in Lootun has a fixed bonus attribute that will always be included on the item allowing for the ability to target farm specific items when looking for certain attributes.
Equipment Types:
Currently there are 6 different equipment types available in Lootun.
Armour:
Each character currently has 9 different armour slots to fill; Helm, Shoulders, Chest, Bracers, Gloves, Belt, Pants, Boots and Cloak. Each armour piece will provide some innate defensive attributes in addition to the rarity generated attributes. There are currently 3 different types of armour; Light, Medium and Heavy, each providing a different set of defensive attributes.
Weapons:
Lootun currently offers 3 main weapon types; Melee, Ranged and Magic. These weapon damage types correspond with the skill damage types mentioned in the previous Deep Dive. In order to use a skill a weapon with the matching damage type must be equipped.

Melee:
Axes, Swords, Daggers, Maces and Fist Weapons are all one handed melee weapons that can be used in addition to a shield or with another one handed weapon to enable dual wielding.

Hammers and Polearms are two handed melee weapons that cannot be used with other weapons or offhands. Two handed weapons gain twice the base attribute value of one handed to compensate for the lack of additional equipment slot.

Ranged:
Pistols are one handed ranged weapons that can be used with a shield or dual wielded.

Bows and Crossbows are two handed ranged weapons that can be used in combination with a quiver.

Guns are two handed ranged weapons that can not be used with any other weapon slot and will gain twice the base attribute value to compensate.

Magic:
Spellblades and Spell Tomes are one handed magic weapons that can be used in combination with a ward.

Staves are two handed magic weapons that can not be used with any other weapon slot and will gain twice the base attribute value to compensate.
Offhands:
Offhand equipment can be used with the weapon types previously mentioned, offhands provide additional stats based on their type. Shields will provide a chance to block attacks in addition to some defensive attributes. Quivers will provide adaptive damage and attack speed. Wards will provide adaptive damage and additional barrier.
Accessories:
Each character can equip an Amulet, two Rings and a Trinket into the accessory slots. Accessories provide a good amount of offensive and defensive stats but also provide a number of utility stats that will increase the quality of items that you find in addition to the amount of gold that you can earn.
Relics:
Relics are a unique system within Lootun, each relic will require a specific class or ascendancy class in order to equip. Unlike most equipment, attributes on relics will scale to the level of the character.

Class relics can only be rare and will always have 2 attributes. Ascendancy relics however can roll up to mythical quality and will have one additional attribute for each rarity tier. In addition ascendancy relics will have a bonus attribute based on the strengths of the ascendancy required to equip the relic.
Gems:
Gems will be fully explained in a later deep dive episode. For now here are some examples of gems you can expect to find in Lootun.

Thank you for reading. Next week we will be taking a loot at the Salvaging and Crafting System Lootun has to offer.
