What People Have Been Saying

[p]Hello there, everyone! My name’s Kabloop and I’m the solo developer of DIGGERGUN! Has everyone been enjoying the game? Please remember to leave a review, as they really help out![/p][p]
DIGGERGUN
has been out for a few days now, and the response I’ve had has been incredibly heartwarming. So much so that I wanted to share some of the great things people have been saying.[/p][p]
But first! How did DIGGERGUN’s launch go? Overall, pretty well! There were a few bugs which I’ve been dealing with as they pop up, but I’m very happy with how the game has been holding up so far.

In case you missed it, there is a SteamOS/Linux/Mac version available on a beta branch. For more information on how to get access to that version, click here.[/p][p][/p][p]So, what have people been saying?[/p][p][/p][p]Rock Paper Shotgun covered DIGGERGUN’s launch:[/p][p]“If all this sounds too relatable, know that the game has some uncomplicated upsides. The setting is pleasantly mysterious and there's some wonderful audio design. Signboard text unfurls with a warble of Morse code, and your character makes a digital plinky-plonk noise when they walk that I found immediately endearing. Still, none of that's going to pay the rent.”
[/p][p]We had a lovely review from ladiesgamers.com:[/p][p]“Diggergun absolutely caught me off guard. It starts as a compact action-platformer and slowly transforms into a layered survival story wrapped in satire, exploration, careful resource management, and stressful-but-satisfying time pressure. It captures the feeling of just barely scraping by, and turns it into a compelling loop that kept pulling me back for just one more workday.”[/p][p][/p][p]As well as a fantastic review from Indie-games.eu: [/p][p]"The game is designed to be challenging while delivering a clear social message about workers' rights and economic struggles. It also stays engaging thanks to the constant pressure of meeting your quota and the randomly generated levels that keep every run feeling new."[/p][p][/p][p]And finally, the launch was also covered by linuxgameconsortium.com:[/p][p]“If you like your releases with a bit of bite and a lot of heart, DIGGERGUN launch delivers. The gameplay’s darkly beautiful monochrome art style captures the weight of its world, while the story keeps you hooked with tension, grit, and just enough hope to keep going.”[/p][p][/p][p]Outside of the written coverage, we’ve also had some great reviews from members of the community!

Nowis-337 wrote: “I’m many levels deep into the mine, in crippling debt, but at least I have a cool upgraded laser and shotgun so far!”[/p][p][/p][p]And vanelina wrote: “Diggergun is meant to test your patience and tolerance. It’s a commentary on routine, repetition, and reward, or the lack thereof. … The game delivered exactly what it promised.”
[/p][p]If you do enjoy the game, then leaving a review is the best way to support DIGGERGUN. The game needs around ten reviews or so from paying customers to propagate into Steam’s algorithm. So if you do enjoy the game, then please make it known! And of course, be sure to tell your friends!

In the meantime, I’m working on cleaning up some extra bugs and the SteamOS version with an aim to get the game into the default DIGGERGUN install path soon.[/p][p][/p][p]For now, though, thank you to everyone who has brought DIGGERGUN and thank you so much for all of the kind words. I can assure you, they’re more appreciated than you might think! [/p][p][/p][p]Until next time,[/p][p]~Kabloop[/p][p][/p]

Diggergun combines Spelunky-style delving with cursed Cornish mines and the cost-of-living crisis

I was nosing around for a feelgood story to perk you up after this morning's depresso news stew. But then I thought: what have you done for me lately? So instead, we're going to write up the release of Diggergun, a life sim platform game about burrowing for lithium, in which you lose a portion of your take-home pay to costs based on real-world current UK tax, national insurance, debt and household expenses. Glorious! That'll teach you to show up here, expecting some kind of escapism.

DIGGERGUN is OUT NOW!

[p]Hello everyone, Kabloop here!
[/p][p]Today I’m excited to announce that DIGGERGUN is OUT NOW! I’m trying to be professional in this blog post, so all I’ll say is: Yay!!![/p][p][/p][p]Watch a launch trailer here: [/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]
I’ve been working on DIGGERGUN by myself for three years now. Suffice to say, I’ve poured a lot of time, energy and love into the game. There’s a lot of me in DIGGERGUN, and it’s my deepest hope that the themes of the game resonate with at least someone out there in the big wide world.

As mega-corporations and politicians alike continue to squeeze working people, DIGGERGUN’s themes about inequality are more relevant today than when I started working on the game three years ago. Even just a few days ago in the United Kingdom, far-right politicians were considering a reduction of the minimum wage, as well as removing important human rights from workers.[/p][p][/p][p]It’s my hope that DIGGERGUN can contribute to a wider discussion about workers, pay and the cost-of-living. [/p][p][/p][p]Finally….

DIGGERGUN is a weird game.
A frustrating game.
An oppressive, dark and, at times, intense game.
[/p][p]But in it, there is hope for justice. It’s just whether or not you choose to seek it out. [/p][p][/p][p]Thank you everyone for supporting me and DIGGERGUN. I hope you all enjoy the game. [/p][p][/p][p]~Kabloop[/p]
