1 Year Anniversary + Upcoming Expansion

[p][/p][p]Hi everyone,[/p][p]Feels surreal to even be typing this... but as of one year (+1 day 😉) ago, our first indie game reached its first year anniversary! Hurray! 🎉 😊[/p][p]I'm absolutely mind blown that so much time has passed. [/p][p]Between continuing to support BR, and entering production on my next game, the months sorta flew by![/p][p]Releasing Beloved Rapture was the fulfillment of a childhood dream of mine... a passionate, deep-rooted desire for releasing my own RPG. [/p][p]The amount of support, feedback, live streams, and heartwarming reviews people wrote in the last 12 months since the game debuted, has really warmed my heart. :)[/p][p]Plus, presenting our game at PAX East for the first time in-person, earlier in 2025, was an incredible moment.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Reflections on the past & future of BR:
[p]As some of you know, a few of these characters have been with me since my late teenage years, so finally releasing them out into the wild... was deeply cathartic.[/p][p]During production, I learned a LOT about the difficult "balancing act" most indies face. [/p][p]The original script, for example, spanned 9 chapters, but the final release was trimmed to 7... even AFTER 5+ years of development. (...Perhaps it was my overzealous nature? 😅)[/p][p][/p][p]Yet as the game's director, I saw my role as needing to do everything possible to keep the pacing brisk and enjoyable — and most importantly, making sure the project actually released. [/p][p]So, when the dust settled, some necessary cuts had to be made. It was compromise that got it over the finish line, just as much as it was our years of hard work.[/p][p][/p][p]But all things considered, I was proud of our team, for how the story was received here on Steam. [/p][p]I've received messages from players across the entire world - people who connected with the characters and their trauma. That touched me very deeply.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The release version from 2024 (what I jokingly call the ‘theatrical cut’) told a complete narrative — Johan and Aiden’s dual story, their journey toward redemption, absolution, and creating a better world. 🙏 It had a beginning, middle, and end, etc.[/p][p]And landing at 28–35 hours of average playtime, it was way more content than I ever imagined possible for our small team![/p][p][/p][p]Yet with some added hindsight, my perfectionist side kept thinking about it...[/p][p]I realized there were many "deleted scenes" that could further enrich the experience for both returning fans and new players. Extended flashbacks, new maps, added lore, and most vitally: an expanded ending. I decided it was time to act now, not contemplate it any longer.[/p][p]So, rather than slowly patching new content in my spare time, I’ve chosen to temporarily return full-time to Beloved Rapture, so I can give level of polish the scenes deserve![/p][p]I would like the new content to be largely indistinguishable from the rest of the game, which requires a lot of effort and time to get right.[/p][p]Read below for some specifics![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
DLC Expansion Plans:
[p]The updated version of Beloved Rapture is best described as a Director’s Cut — a more comprehensive manifestation of the story. [/p][p]It won’t just give more details toward the main narratives, but will also feature refined mechanics (like a fully fixed WAIT mode), and other bonus content![/p][p]When it's ready, the DLC will be completely free.[/p]
 • [p]A brand new full-sized region, "Archon's Peninsula" seamlessly connected to the main overworld. It contains over 20+ unique maps, new battles, a unique boss, and a town + two dungeons.[/p]
 • [p]The scenes of Chapter 7, especially after the final boss, are extended to give greater resolution. The spirit realm of 'Astra' becomes a full dungeon, instead of a brief moment. Including one post-credits scene.[/p]
 • [p]New Blacksmith and Rune Shop locations added to all regions![/p]
 • [p]New Ethrel Shard Locations + extra chests/gear.[/p]
 • [p]A harp-playing, half-deity DLC Boss, Archon.[/p]
 • [p]Brand new music composed specifically for the DLC Expansion.[/p]
 • [p]New Relica attacks for Lance and Karuka, bringing their total to 3 each.[/p]
 • [p]New dialogue portraits for NPCs that previously did not have any, such as Adamson or Tamara.[/p]
 • [p]Two Cameo battles: Inside of a new colosseum location, duel against Atilla from Seed of Nostalgia, and Seeo from Dormant Sky.[/p]
[p][/p][p]Some screenshots below. (Warning: Lite spoilers)[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Upcoming Release Schedule:

We've scheduled the first phase of the expansion pack to launch on November 9, roughly one month from now!
[p]My plan is to have the full array of additions finished by that date. [/p][p]However, if we run short on time - I may break the content pack into two separate releases. [/p][p]I'll plan on revealing more specifics, and a promo video, closer to that date![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Robot Rhapsody progress:
[p][/p]

[p]Those of you already following Rapturous Studio's next game, our sci-fi romp Robot Rhapsody, can breathe a sigh of relief also; for that project is being worked on simultaneously. [/p][p]Even though I'll be briefly coming back to Beloved Rapture in terms of my OWN workflow -- the artists and other freelancers are still at working on the new assets and programming tasks for its younger sibling; each week leading up to the Kickstarter campaign! In fact, we expect the crowdfunding to launch shortly after the BR Expansion.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Closing[/p][p]Mere words can hardly get the job done... in my effort to explain what the past 12 months have meant to me. Those of you who earnestly played + enjoyed Beloved Rapture... I can't thank you enough for supporting our work, and helping our dream become real. [/p][p]If you have any questions on what was written in this blog post, by all means, feel free to ask![/p][p][/p][p]Eternally grateful.[/p][p][/p][p]Best,[/p][p]Aaron[/p][p]& Rapturous Studio[/p][p][/p][p][/p]

Robot Rhapsody - Steam page debuts.

[p]Hey everyone,[/p][p]I’m happy to announce that our second RPG, Robot Rhapsody, is now officially listed on Steam!

If Beloved Rapture resonated at all, it's my hope you’ll find something meaningful in this new project too—though it explores a very different kind of setting and story structure.

I learned a lot over the 5+ years working on Beloved Rapture, and I'm excited to now be able to channel that experience into something totally fresh. [/p][p][/p][p]The majority of the team members are returning as well - including the pixel art and music composition, so you can expect some of the same "DNA" in the storytelling or artistic choices. :D
[/p][p]🎥 Watch the Debut Trailer: [/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
About the Game:
• [p]Another turn-based RPG, this time being inspired by PS1-era classics. The completely hand-drawn pixel art returns in higher fidelity, along with an dynamic synth OST composed once again by Andreas. [/p]
 • [p]Set in a fractured future, a story centered on an evolving conflict between a technocratic dystopian nation, and a rebellious solarpunk-inspired "paradise" where anti-tech sentiments have begun to brew. [/p]
 • [p]The player joins Selva, a hardened anti-machine mercenary, as she joins forces with Jiro, a gifted engineer from a sterile AI-ruled underground "utopia", to lead a silent rebellion.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
 • [p]Similar to Beloved Rapture: The game is heavily focused on narrative depth, a dreamy retro presentation, philosophical conflict, and slow-burn character dynamics.[/p]
 • [p]Unlike Beloved Rapture: The player is no longer locked into specific regions depending on the story progression. Robot Rhapsody allows you to explore most of the entire game world from the very beginning, with dynamic and constantly 'evolving' locations to keep things fresh too. [/p]
 • [p]A game deliberately built to evoke the melancholic, low-tech yearning of late-90s RPGs—filtered through a modern lens.[/p]
 • [p]Tackling modern topics such as "AGI", consciousness, digital identity, utopian vs dystopian paths for technology, internalized trauma, billionaires who "play god" with civilization, whether AIs can ever "be creative", naturalism vs futurism, and other themes.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][p]We're also preparing for our Kickstarter campaign for (ideally) later this summer![/p]
Showcasing Beloved Rapture at PAX East!

Hey everyone! Aaron from Rapturous Studio here.

Wanted to share some good news!

Beloved Rapture will have its first-ever exhibitor booth at PAX East 2025!
🎉 Taking place from May 8–11 in Boston, MA 🎮

For those who don't know, PAX is one of the biggest indie gaming conventions in North America, with 100,000+ annual visitors. 😁

After years of going as a fan, it feels truly surreal (and a bit overwhelming!) to now be attending as a developer with a finished game!

I'm isolating a playable demo to showcase the game's first dungeon.

This is an exciting chance to connect with new players and potentially line up the support we need to bring Beloved Rapture to consoles!

Of course... exhibiting at a show of this size and insane spectacle came with a few major expenses—over $4,000—including:

 • Equipment rentals (laptops, controllers)
 • Signage and displays
 • Travel and lodging
 • Business cards
 • Basic merch and materials

I nearly backed out—but since it’s too late to cancel, I’m pushing forward to make the most of it!

If you enjoyed Beloved Rapture, or just want to support our console port efforts and future projects, please consider donating to our small emergency crowdfunding.

We received donations of $1200 already in the few days since I made it, so I think we can get it closer by May 7! :D

Any help is so deeply appreciated. 🙏
I thank you all so dearly for being part of this journey.

Also, anyone who donates, I’m happy to send you a free copy of BR, the OST, or any future game with much gratitude!

And if you're attending the show, please say hi!

Upcoming: Robot Rhapsody

[p]
Hello everyone!

Aaron of Rapturous Studio here! :D

First and foremost, thank you for your continued support of the game!

It’s been incredibly moving for me to see players connect with the story, themes, and characters of Beloved Rapture over multiple months since the release date.

As we continue to develop updates and DLC for it, we’re also thrilled to share some big news in an official capacity—our next project, Robot Rhapsody, is officially in early production!

Players will follow Selva, a former mercenary who once hunted rogue AI bots, yet now seeks refuge in the forested remains of a former metropolis - Moxo City.

The world's leaders' face a harsh divide between self-sustaining, 'luddite' grassroots nation-states, and the engineered perfection of AI-curated megacities.

Alongside Selva is Aurum, a robot bard bound to speak only through poetry, yet whose words may hold deeper meaning than they seem; and Jiro, a boy whom lived his entire life in a LLM-generated VR simulation tank.

[/p]
View the campaign
[p]
Transitioning from RPG Maker 2003 to RPG Maker MZ has opened many doors in and of itself! But beyond that, I’ve been reflecting on Beloved Rapture’s reception to push for even tighter gameplay and aesthetic designs.

I've started experimenting with more open-ended gameplay loops too - so the expansive world we’re building feels less restrained in how players want to explore it.

Yet one thing that remains constant is my focus on interpersonal relationships and philosophically-minded themes in the story. Even in a new genre, my focus will always be on the emotional core of the characters.

Plus, many artists are returning as well, so we can maintain the SNES/PS1 era sensibility rather seamlessly. :')

If you enjoyed Beloved Rapture, consider following our upcoming Kickstarter campaign to stay updated and support the next chapter of our journey!
