Howdy Heroes,
[h2]New and Unlocked[/h2]
This patch focuses on helping new players explore the game. We have made features unlockable to allow for a more gradual learning curve, and to show constant progression during the early game. Some changes help experienced players too, such as reducing dodge time consumption, and tags that remind players that there are new things to discover!



[h2]The Nitty Gritty[/h2]
[h3]Clucky[/h3]
  • Dodge time consumption is now reduced to 10% + 10% per star back to 100% of the original consumption rate at 9 stars.

[h3]Unlocked[/h3]
  • Chili levels 5, 6 and 7 are now locked behind 1, 2 and 3 stars respectively.
  • The shop is now unlocked by collecting 400 eggs.
  • Equipment select is now unlocked by purchasing an item.
  • Cannon Tickets in the shop are now unlocked by purchasing 3 items.
  • The cannon is now unlocked by obtaining a cannon ticket.
  • Missions are now unlocked by completing 5 runs.
  • Highscores are now unlocked by completing 7 runs.
  • Trials are now unlocked by unlocking a trial level.
  • Clicking a locked element now pops up a requirement message detailing how to unlock it.
  • Unlock animations now play on the end of the game screen and notifications are delayed if anything should unlock.
  • Upon getting an egg combo over 500 on a level, you can now see your highest egg combo on its level select sign post.
  • Now all padlocks are dark and the star shows the correct colour for consistency.

[h3]New Tags[/h3]
  • New tags have been placed on UI buttons that have something the player hasn’t seen behind them.
  • Items in store, items in shop and missions are now sorted by new.

[h3]Tutorials and Training[/h3]
  • Pleasant Pastures Tutorial level now explains Clucky’s dodge ability.
  • Training levels are now compulsory, to teach you how to deal with certain obstacles.
  • Frantic Farms Training now teaches you that dashing dashable objects recharges dash.

[h3]Items[/h3]
    Adjustments
    • Star Tiara, Star Backpack and Star Sneakers
      • Reduced price back to default for tier. From 3,000 to 1,800 eggs.
    • Thrillseeker Helmet, Thrillseeker Cape and Thrillseeker Boots
      • Reduced price back to default for tier. From 3,000 to 1,200 eggs.

[h3]Rascal[/h3]
  • Collecting Rascal for the first time after this patch now rewards the player with 300 eggs.

[h3]Levels[/h3]
  • All stones around a stone boost have been reduced in size to be consistently 1 jumpable.

[h3]Missions[/h3]
  • ’Rotate X degrees’ missions have been adjusted to ‘Turn X meters’.

[h3]QoL[/h3]
  • The disabled UI element noise is now louder and can be heard through the default music settings.
  • End game screen navigation has been adjusted to be more intuitive. Up is up!
  • Now you have to open the chili modal to adjust the game speed to stop accidental adjustments.
  • Scrolling through lists (name select, resolution select) now has acceleration for controller and keyboard users.
  • Button guides now flash the button required.
  • During close calls the buttons to press to save you now flash and show their indicators.
  • Camera now zooms in and time is slowed during close call, armour hit, armour break, water bounce and star shield.
  • Camera now zooms out when dashing
  • Camera now zooms out for BIG Clucky.
  • Camera should no longer move while paused.
  • Camera now uses the larger out of delta time or unscaled delta time.
  • BIG Clucky’s run animation plays faster.
  • Expanded the pool of tips to help teach the player about the game.
  • Added a label for the dodge time display when showing inputs.
  • Adjusted bawk growth and size over lifetime in preparation for future items.
  • Crunched textures on iOS.
  • When playing the demo the game now suggests buying the full game after finishing Pleasant Pastures and every 25 runs.
  • Adjusted some item’s positioning in the menu.
  • Fixed the high heels texture issue in Wesley’s shop.

[h3]Bug Fixes[/h3]
  • Fixed a bug where close calls would occur when bawk was still recovering.
  • Fixed a bug where bawk balls were too big in the first frame after spawning.
  • Fixed a bug where selection was lost when selecting an item and navigating left to the back button straight away.
  • Fixed a bug where radio buttons navigated to an unselected radio button.
  • Fixed a bug where the shop button didn’t navigate you to the shop if pressed before you had seen the main menu.
  • Fixed a bug where some UI elements weren’t playing the correct sound when pressed.
  • Fixed a bug where rascal missions kept regenerating and showing incomplete.
  • Fixed a bug where guides kept playing after death.
  • Fixed bug where level notifications weren’t cached correctly on swapping from a tutorial into a real level.
  • Fixed a bug where the run animation was still affected by items during the tutorial and training.
  • Fixed bug where dogs eggs were still moving after the dog was bawked.

  • Instant missions will now cycle infinitely!
  • Challenge missions now reset every 4 days. This means their reset should align with Rascal missions that reset every 2 days.
  • In game pop ups only play the bell audio 1 time per set of in game popups instead of per popup.
  • In game and end of game popups clear between run restarts.
  • End game notifications spawn and scroll faster and don’t travel as high.
  • Mission events can now occur yearly.

[h3]QoL[/h3]
  • The stone wall in the tutorial after the boost has been repositioned.
  • Players can no longer jump over Rascal in the tutorial.
  • Camera rotates less towards the ground when falling and occurs when Clucky is higher.
  • Camera zooming is now based on unscaled time.
  • Increased Clucky’s base egg pickup range by 10%.
  • Added new egg spawn locations to some obstacles.
  • Increased the rate at which eggs spawn from 30-45m to 25-40m.
  • Increased the amount of eggs to spawn per block from 3 to 3-4.
  • Increased the egg spawn rate for longer blocks.

[h3]Performance[/h3]
  • Removed debugging from live builds.
  • No longer create unused strings for missions shown. Basic mission messages are now cached.
  • Stored options in a dictionary instead of a list to prevent memory allocations on lookups.
  • Adjusted the distance calculator to reduce memory allocation.
  • Using Unity’s physics non-alloc functions for ray and boxcasts to reduce memory allocation.
  • Other code optimisations to reduce memory allocation, particularly allocation that was occurring as part of the game loop.

  • Fixed a bug where the game crashed after you completed all your instant missions.
  • Fixed a bug where Clucky's feet were missing after lava boots were used.
  • Fixed a bug where weekly missions had incorrect stage numbers.

  • Fixed a bug that occurred while playing with FPS glasses.

Just a quick shoutout that we are very excited to be showcasing Bawk Bawk at SAGE this February!


[h2]Ease of Play[/h2]
Clucky’s has some major upgrades to her basic abilities such as falling slower, gliding longer, turning faster and bigger boosts. New player experience has been optimized and there should be no more deaths on the tutorial/training levels. Catching rascal should be accessible to all players so he has decided to turn slower and less often. Don’t worry though if you want a challenge there's now an elusive 4 star Rascal and Challenge missions.


[h2]New Content[/h2]
We wanted to live a little and explore some new features for those who have already seen what Bawk Bawk has to offer. We’ve added Chippies and Doughnuts for those who are hungry for more bonus levels. There’s also 17 NEW ITEMS for you to mix and match and find the best combinations. Float through the skies in the Chicken Suit or race through the stars at an amped up 300% speed wearing the new Star Mythics. We’ve even added a new cinematic video to help you explore Clucky’s world in a new way.


[h2]Mission Items & Event[/h2]
We have expanded our missions tab to have more to do such as challenge missions that require extreme skill to complete and hero missions that last forever and unlock some of those new items. Don’t worry, we know the struggle of trying to work out where your mission is so now you can just click/press the mission to go straight to the required level or equip the required item. Lastly we have added some extra event missions until the end of February just to help you top up your eggs ready to buy the new items.

  • The game now plays the cinematic trailer before the tutorial when you first play Super Bawk Bawk Chicken!

    Falling
    • Clucky can now vault over edges easier.
    • Clucky’s base fall speed from 100% to 80%.
    Glide Time
    • Clucky’s base glide time from 1.2s to 2s.
    • Unused glide time is now pushed into Clucky’s next jump’s glide time up to a max of 100% glide time.
    • Now all jumps after Clucky’s initial jump give 50% glide time from 50% previous jumps glide time.
    Movement
    • Clucky’s base acceleration increased from 90 to 120.
    • Clucky’s movement is now based on distance and not degrees. This means the higher you are the slower you rotate.
    Dashing
    • Clucky’s base dash recovery time from 1s to 2s.
    • Clucky’s base dash recharge time from 6s to 10s.
    • Clucky will now turn purple when phase dashing.
    Dodge Time
    • Clucky’s time slow trail now only renders when consuming dodge time or when waiting for specific input in the tutorial/training levels.

  • Turn Speed decreased from 25/35/45 to 20/30/40/50
  • Turn Acceleration decreased from 180 to 40/60/80/100 (0.5s to go from 0 to max or 1s from -max to max)
  • Turn Duration increased from 6/5/4 to 7/6/5/4 seconds.
  • Dash Cooldown increased from 30/15/2 to 30/20/10/4 seconds.

    New Mission Types
      Event missions are for special limited time events and require the full game.
      Daily missions generate new missions when you achieve them and refresh daily.
      Rascal missions involve catching Rascal to get rewards and refresh every 2 days.
      Challenge missions involve completing difficult tasks in a single run and refresh every 3 days.
      Weekly missions are big tasks that you can tackle over the week.
      Hero missions unlock new cool items, never expire and require the full game.
  • Pressing a mission will now equip the required item or take you to the required level.
  • Added a new mission time Boost X Times.
  • Adjusted some mission descriptions to be more accurate.
  • Missions can now have multiple stages.
  • Adjusted missions appearance to fit the new system.
  • Missions now say their percentage instead of counter/requirement.
  • Missions bar and complete text is now green when complete.
  • Missions now show the closest you got for missions that require a certain amount in one run.
  • Missions now tell you how to unlock Rascal missions.

[h3]Levels[/h3]
    New Bonus Levels
    • Added Delicious Dougnuts bonus level to Pleasant Pastures.
    • Added Soggy Corn, Dash Dash Dogs and Hay Listen bonus levels to Frantic Farms.
    • Added Barrelled bonus level to Bustlin’ Barnyard.
    • Added Crashing Chippies bonus level to Lethal Lava.
    Bigger Boosts
    • Boosts base duration increased from 0.66s to 2.5s.
    • Stone and ring boosts now suck clucky towards their center.
    • Stone boosts are now wider and have thinner stone edges.
    • Trampoline boost now lasts 1s.
    • Dirt boosts now last 1.5s or 1s if Rascal created it.
    • The camera now zooms out while boosting and rotates to look further at the ground when falling from a large height.
    Tutorial and Training
    • First tutorial is now shorter and players should be less likely to fail.
    • Double jump input tutorial line has been adjusted to be more intuitive and allow for both double press or two more spaced out presses.
    • Glide now tells you to “hold jump” when you stop gliding prematurely in the tutorial.
    • Tutorial time slow lines no longer are removed on restart.
    • Boost areas in tutorials are now filled with more than just grass.
    • Now when you fail on tutorial/training you will reset back to the last tutorial line passed.
    • Obstacles will no longer dissolve completely as you pass them. Now the dissolve maxes at 75% so you will always be able to see the obstacles you run into.
    • Messy Muds tutorial now explains lily pads.
  • Walled has been adjusted to have bigger gaps between the walls.
  • Stone Walls with 1 opening now give a little extra distance before them.
  • Sheepish Corn has been adjusted to have better looking wheat.
  • Snakes now have a metallic sheen.
  • Reduced the amount of snakes and increased the blocks they inhabit.
  • Snakes now hiss when they strike.
  • Lava steps now move slower.

[h3]Controls[/h3]
  • The gyro controls should now work before first death.
  • The gyro sensitivity setting now allows for more sensitive input.
  • The joystick now shows the current movement from the gyro.
  • Pressing the joystick will now reset the gyro center position.
  • The gyro should now have less drift.
  • The gyro center position is now calculated at the end of the countdown.

[h3]UI and UX[/h3]
  • The dash button will now go purple when you have a phase dash.
  • The pause button should now be easier to press.
  • Items in the shop are now shown in slot, tier and alphabetical order.
  • Tutorial button guides now loop their animation.
  • Selecting a tab button now counts as pressing that button so the current view will always be the selected tab.
  • Improved the scrolling for prefixes and suffixes when changing your player name and when scrolling through missions.
  • When buttons aren’t allowed during tutorial and training the buttons are now more transparent (from 25% to 5%) to indicate they are locked and lower confusion as to why they don’t work.
  • Profile online settings tick is now darker.
  • Adjusted some level icons in bonus areas so each icon is unique for that area.
  • Options scrollbar is wider.
  • There is now a back button for the equipment item slot selection.

[h3]Performance[/h3]
  • Reduced the amount of times the games saves to disc.
  • Increased the amount of materials that are GPU instanced.
  • Increased the amount of models that have LODs such as: Barns, Stone Boosts, Stones, Fertilizer, Cabbage, Snakes, Eggs, Bees, Ducks and Ducklings.
  • Missions are now created on scene load rather than every time you press the tab.
  • Animation culling has been turned on for many animators.

[h3]Bug Fixes[/h3]
  • Fixed a bug where only one direction was counting for rotate X degrees missions.
  • Fixed a bug where the gold egg collider size expanded each restart.
  • Fixed a bug where eggs were spawning too close to each other.
  • Fixed a bug where Rascal faced the wrong direction on exit.
  • Fixed a bug where Rascal would spam their “Huh” sound on exit.
  • Fixed a bug where a mission’s progress bar would exceed its limits.
  • Fixed a bug where gyro movement was not being disabled in tutorials.
  • Fixed a bug where small movements counted to stop time slow in tutorials.
  • Fixed a bug that occurred when playing on demo after playing the full game with certain items equipped.
  • Fixed a bug where armour was not being reset in between runs.

  • Fixed a bug where two tutorial guides could play at the same time.

  • Fixed a bug where some missions had errors when swapping from full game to demo.
  • Fixed a bug where you could get missions to dash dashable objects when you had no dashable object levels available.
  • Fixed a bug where the tutorial’s next level button was locked if you ended the run mid-way through even after previous completion.
  • Fixed a bug where compliments started dulled when too many compliments popped up at the same time.

Our focus for this patch was to bring a unique soundtrack to the game, improving the player’s experience and optimisation to make sure it runs as smooth as possible. [h2]Mobile Mad[/h2]
Play On The Go - Bawk Bawk’s mobile release on Android and iOS will be right around the corner! Soon enough you’ll be Bawking at a moment's notice!



[h2]Masterful Music[/h2]
Stop, Look, LISTEN - Now Bawk Bawk is jam packed with new awesome music composed by @therealchrisnorton! Be sure to play with the sound on and the music pumping, treat your ears to a delightful feast. Even Rascal has his own theme to help you know when the chase is on!



[h2]Player Experience[/h2]
First Impressions Matter - We’ve updated the tutorial to give players a better first experience, while also covering more of the core mechanics.
Navigation Nation - Improved navigation based on player feedback. The post game screen is now a lot easier to navigate and the chilli meter now makes it even easier to switch the tempo of gameplay. You now have the ability to change Clucky’s equipment from both the post game and level select screens so you can adjust your outfit on the fly.
My Clucky Senses Are Tingling - Clucky now senses which direction she should turn to find Rascal when he moves out of sight. Clucky can now also sense when a fox is close behind her.
Cheers, Big Ears - A shout-out system is in the game, providing positive reinforcement for completing tutorials as well as highlighting daring dodges and clutch saves.
Second Chances - The new Close Call system gives you more time to react to a collision that would have proved fatal. Use this time to move, dash, or bawk your way to safety. But watch out! The dodge timer drains rapidly during close calls and if you take too long to react, your run will still be over.



[h2]Hot Stuff[/h2]
Super Scary - Fire scarecrows now bounce around while they spin so watch out for these spinning nightmares!
Hex Walled - A new challenge approaches in the form of a new bonus level, it’s like walled only hexed.



[h2]Optimisation Override[/h2]
Staying Positive - Removed all negative scales in bawk bawk that were used to flip objects and used mirrored animation/assets instead to increase gpu instancing performance.
Too Many Triangles - Added LODs for the cylindrical world and some heavy hitting obstacles reducing the total polys by up to 40% in some cases.
Quality Assurance - Reduced the texture quality of the “alright” and “not bad” quality settings, allowing for less overhead on low-end devices.

[h3]Music and Sound Adjustments[/h3]
  • Added new songs for each area, two songs for the menu and one song for Rascal.
  • Added new countdown sounds unique to each area.
  • Added new sound effects for bawk and dash recharge.
  • Added sound effects to all menus.
  • Music now fades out during load transition.
  • Music is paused when you pause.
  • Sounds should appear more like they are in a constant environment.
  • Obstacle sounds can now be played at various pitches to reduce the same sound stacking effect.

  • Frogs now play sounds appropriate to their size.

[h3]Rascal Adjustments[/h3]
  • Rascal music now plays when rascal spawns.
  • When caught you gain the eggs Rascal stole and an egg combo shield.
  • Rascal now dashes when Clucky boosts near him.
  • Rascal now moves faster when behind clucky.
  • Rascal will now appear in front of you and leave a dirt trail leading into his boost. The dirt trail destroys surrounding obstacles.
  • Rascal’s item bag colour now changes based on the reward you get for catching them.
  • Rascal no longer impacts the level's random seed and won’t change the level’s structure when present.
  • Rascal’s chase should last exactly one minute.
  • Rascal’s icon and “catch/caught/escaped” text are now smaller.
  • Fixed a bug where the stunned icon stayed active during Rascal’s initial burst of speed.
  • Fixed a bug where both “catch” and “caught” remained on the screen during Rascal’s chase.
  • Fixed a bug Rascal didn’t spawn after completing a tutorial.
  • Rascals starting speed and max rotation speed has been reduced as well as changes directions less often.
  • Three star Rascal’s dash regen has been increased from 1s to 2s.

[h3]Initial Player Experience[/h3]
  • Updated and added new tutorials and training to increase clarity and added more systems to protect you, making it easier to succeed.
  • The game will initially load you into the tutorial on first play.
  • Input hints have been added to show the correct buttons to press for all control schemes. They now last forever on tutorial levels or appear on start or pause in other levels.
  • Missions should not pop up in tutorials.
  • Rascal icon and item icon shouldn’t appear on tutorial level’s pause or post game screen.
  • Now uses the space key glyph.

[h3]UI UX[/h3]
  • The chilli metre on the post game screen has been simplified to only show the chilli you are currently on.
  • Adjusted UI navigation to be more intuitive across the whole game. You can also now directly adjust the chilli on the post game screen without having to bring up the modal.
  • Added new UI shortcuts, you can now get to the options, missions and equipment select from the world, level and trial select screens.
  • The shop and equipment button have been separated and will now take you directly to the selected screen with quick access to each other except when changing equipment from the post game screen.
  • There are no longer duplicate egg counters on the pause screen.
  • Transitions in the menu are now snappier.
  • Wesley now prefers to show items first instead of cannon tickets.
  • Compliments and shoutouts now appear on the side of the screen when Clucky does cool actions. Current shoutouts include Dash Break when dashing through a dashable obstacle, Clutch when keeping an egg combo alive when it’s just about to run out, Close Call when surviving a close call and Combo Up or Rainbow Combo when increasing an egg combo.
  • Now top scores should appear before relative scores.
  • Added new nouns and adjectives for player names.
  • Cannon button now shows a star required pop up if you attempt to enable it without any star collected for the level.
  • Changed the star and rainbow celebrations effects to match the new sounds better.
  • Added credits screen in options.
  • The post game screen now has some unskippable parts.
  • When the player owns no items the items equipment overlay shows a message to direct them on how to get their feathers on some.
  • Now going to shop from in-game passes through area and level select.
  • The back button is now hidden when selecting equipment.
  • Cannon icons are now standardised.
  • Adjusted options layout to be more familiar and group similar options.
  • Each notch in the canvas scale option now increases size by 10% instead of 25% and more notches are present.
  • Adjusted some options names.

[h3]Player Adjustments[/h3]
  • Players now get Close Calls where if the run would be ended but the player has bawk or dash available, time is stopped for a duration based on their remaining time-slow bar, giving the player extra time to react to the danger.
  • Jump/Dash/Bawk input buffers are now longer and use real or in game time whichever is smaller.
  • Bawk now takes 3s to recover, up from 1s.
  • Bawk now takes 60s to recharge, up from 40s.
  • Boosts now give 2s of invulnerability, up from 1s.
  • Player feet hitbox is now smaller to reduce floating near bridges or getting muddy walking beside mud.
  • Camera should adjust itself when landing on floating islands.
  • Camera should tilt towards the ground less when falling.
  • Added Clucky dirt boost tunnelling and emerge sounds. Particles have been adjusted to match.
  • The player now starts higher up in the air when the cannon ends and is invulnerable for longer.
  • After boosts and cannons the player resets coyote time and has reduced gravity for a small period of time.
  • Some Invulnerability effects now weakly bounce you off water or dirt. A wing icon appears on the shield status display when this would occur.
  • Water bounce now gives a small Invulnerability.
  • Score save data now contain the game version they were achieved on, as well as other stats such as the highest egg combo achieved.

[h3]Item Adjustments[/h3]
  • Party Hat, Hand Bag and High Heels - Star Power now gives egg combo shield.
  • Guitar - Reduced boost shield from 100% to 30%.
  • Super Hair - Reduced bawk distance from 100% to 40%. Reduced bawk size from 50% to 30%.
  • Cowboy Boots and Toolbelt Reduced bawk charges from +2 to +1.
  • FPS glasses Reduced bawk charges from +3 to +2.

[h3]Level Adjustments[/h3]
  • Added a new bonus level Hex Walled.
  • Foxes no longer start behind reeds in the Fast Foxes level.
  • Cow blocks are now longer.
  • Multiblock fences now only have two eggs.
  • Rolling hay now only has two eggs.
  • Pop up sprinklers now rotate both ways.
  • Cows now rotate around poles both ways.
  • Fire scarecrows now move in infinity signs and are a little more scary overall.
  • Fixed Forest spelling for bonus levels.
  • Stoney Swamps is now called Soggy Swamps.
  • Trampolines now have boost lines and use the boost icon.
  • Corn camera zoom hitbox is slightly smaller.
  • Corn pathways are slightly bigger.
  • Lava steps are more central, move slower and are guaranteed to have some up and some down nearby.
  • Vultures now have an additional collider for their neck.
  • Blocks and obstacles that move or rotate should now be more consistently the same when playing on various view distances.
  • Dirt boosts now have a bigger hitbox.
  • Hay Boosts are now wider.

[h3]Mission Adjustments[/h3]
  • Mission items only select items that are available.
  • Added dash X dashables mission.
  • Added collect X egg combo mission.
  • Added complete X daily missions, mission.
  • Now get 6 daily missions + 2 rascal missions + 3 complete daily missions each day.
  • Adjusted mission requirements and rewards.
  • Fixed a bug with missions which caused expired items or level requirements.
  • Missions now only notify on 50% and 100% complete.
  • Removed complete X one star runs and replaced some with complete X three star runs.

[h3]Performance[/h3]
  • Reduced quality on low and medium to allow better performance.
  • Reduced fog and camera clipping plane distances.
  • Increased performance when loading scenes.
  • Quality options are now applied on start up.
  • The world cylinder is no longer solid and only shows the faces needed.

  • Fixed a bug where player movement wasn’t based on the controller joystick x axis displacement percentage and was always full left, no movement or full right.

  • Fixed some bugs that occurred when the player was given free bawk and dash charges.

  • Fixed a bug where Rascal’s icon still showed on the cannon button when it wasn’t needed.

  • Now dirt boost duration and invulnerable time is scaled with boost power and boost invulnerable time.
