Captain's Log: Road Map and Next Update

Attention Crew!


We hope you've all been enjoying exploring the Valley.
We wanted to update you guys about what we're working on and what you can look forward to in the future.

[h2]Road Map[/h2]
We've posted this to other platforms, but we do have a roadmap that outlines our progress on the mod, and goes over the remaining updates.



As you can see, there's not a whole lot left. We're currently working on the Ship Event update before wrapping with final Black Reliquary update.

[h2]Ship Event Update Details[/h2]
The Ship Event update will be released on August 11th, and will include:
  • New Ship Events
  • Two new plot quests started by Ship Events, including our first Darkest (Lv 6) quest
  • Philomath Class add-on
  • Thrall Class add-on
  • Symptom/Disease system adjustments
  • New Celestial Trinkets and some adjustments to their progression
  • Replacement of Ancestral trinkets: "Twilight" rarity trinkets
  • New rare Estate items that allow heroes to change their affiliation
  • Many balance changes and adjustments

Here are some examples of what we're working on:
[h2]Ship Event Progress[/h2]
While we've had a lot of different ideas for Ship Events, many of them unfortunately had to be canned due to limitations of Darkest Dungeon modding and time constraints.

We're looking to add a total of 25 new ship events, ranging from events that provide simple buffs on your next expedition to introducing new, more difficult challenges.

Here are just a couple examples of some Ship Events:
The shooting competition ship event as pictured here is planned to offer up ranged bonuses for the next quest.

This gambling-lock event is the result of some bestial hijinks that got out of hand.

This last ship event depicts the remains of a brew that was corrupted by Cactonid spawn, resulting in a somewhat explosive beverage.


We'll be showcasing more of these town events in future Captain's Logs.

[h2]Symptom/Disease Changes[/h2]

The first Symptom/Disease adjustment we've made is to make it so that disease kits are able to completely remove freshly acquired symptoms. Previously, we wanted to make tended symptoms and diseases cheaper to remove, but sadly that wasn't an option, therefore it often felt like a waste of money to buy the disease kits, as you'd still have to remove disease in the Clinic. To somewhat balance this change out, the time for the symptom to evolve was halved.

[h3]Special Disease Changes[/h3]

We've also made some adjustments to the Ghoul Plague and Rictus Mortis special diseases (the latter of which is available when the Hexer Class add-on is enabled). These two diseases have some special effects which make them a valuable part of a character under specific circumstances. An issue with those diseases however, was that it was difficult to keep people with just that disease, as any way of curing diseases had a risk of curing the special diseases too. We're adjusting them as to make it so that they push out common diseases as well as prevent the hero from getting any other diseases . This way you can retain your team of special heroes without risk of clearing the status. However, these special diseases will not be curable on the Flameseeker, and instead need be cured by camp skills or curios. Additionally, Ghouls will no longer randomly apply Ghoul Fever to your heroes in combat.

[h2]Philomath Addon[/h2]

The Philomath is a counter-defense support hero with potential high damage options, but at the cost of being exceptionally frail. Her power and fragility are substantially amplified upon affliction, coupled with unique relationships to stress.

To have her fit into BR, we've had to rebalance the stats on herself and her skills. We've also adjusted her to be Pagan-favoring, which is reflected in some of her abilities.
Due to her increased value in the prep round, some aspects have been dialed back accordingly.


We've gotten a handle on her skills and her trinkets, but there's still a lot of art assets that need to be finalized for her to be release-ready.

Gameplay Patch 6 (4/30/2023)

Hello Crew!

While working on the Ship Events update, we found some pretty major crash fixes and bugs that we wanted to push to live. Since we were going to push some fixes to live, we figured we'd just ship a full on balance patch.

Noticeable adjustments this update include:
-Fixing the crash that sometimes occurs when you have both Amberblight and Expiate on the same enemy
-Buffing a bunch of Bosses :)
-Reworking Bola

Again, this is likely our last large-scale balance update until the Ship Event update unless something major pops up. We'll be devoting most of our time towards new content updates from now on.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed issue where enemies with Expiate/Amberblight applied to them sometimes crashed the game when they used a friendly skill
  • Fixed issue where old provision icon was used in the Camping Tutorial Popup
  • Fixed issue where an inaccurate positive quirk removal cost was shown in the Clinic Tutorial Popup
  • Updated some help menu pop-up tooltips that were outdated
  • Updated the First Mate's Provision sprite to make Reflex Serum's Price more readable
  • Adjusted Sprites offsets for Antiquarian/Occultist/Veiled Mystical skills so their sprites are spaced a little further away from enemies
  • Made more internal adjustments to Shovel Bash in a futile attempt to fix the crash it causes (requires testing)
  • Made some internal adjustments to Cactonid Alraune's animations to help prevent crashes when loading into her quest
  • Fixed issue where Levantine Enchantress healed 100 stress when you encountered her. I have no clue how this wasn't ever reported
  • Fixed issue where Levantine Janissary's "Keep Them Busy" didn't respect summon limits for individual enemies
  • Fixed issue where Levantine Appraiser's "Blinding Powder" didn't apply Stress
  • Fixed issue where Otekh counted as an Apprentice level enemy on Vet/Champ for trinkets and ADoTs
  • Fixed issue where using Cleansing Salt on Legion Decapitations showed as a negative interaction despite it being positive
  • Fixed issue where "Rotten To the Core" didn't apply Amberblight if used in a Hunting Pack
  • Fixed issue where Troglodyte Slinger's "Sickening Spew" Blight Chance didn't increase with difficulty
  • Fixed issue where Ghoul Miser's head was clipping over the chest it holds
  • Fixed issue where Wildlander Hellion's "Fearsome YAWP!" Debuff chance on Prep round didn't scale with difficulty
  • Fixed issue where Wildlander Reavers were guaranteed to target marked heroes with with "Flying Guillotine"
  • Fixed issue where Wildlander Raptors were guaranteed to target marked heroes with "Iron Grasp"
  • Fixed issue where Plated Snails didn't have a "Wildlife" typing
  • Fixed issue where Sand Charmer wasn't guaranteed to use "Charming Melody" when only one of his summons were still alive
  • Fixed more typos :)

[h2]Changes[/h2]
[h3]Hero Changes[/h3]
  • Abomination's "Beast's Bile" PROT Debuff scaling has been increased to 10/12/15/17/20%
  • Abomination's "Absolution" Stresshealing has been nerfed to 7/8/9/10/11, but now Clears Horror
  • Arbalest's "Bola" has been reworked and now looks like this:
  • Flagellant's "Redeem" % Max HP healing on both himself and his target has been increased in earlier levels to 30/32/35/37/40% (higher amount earlier, but less scaling, so it's the same strength at level 5)
  • Judicator's Bleed Resist has been lowered to 30% base, but her Stun Resist has been increased to 40% base
  • Musketeer's "Stock Strike" base CRT has been reduced to 4/5/6/7/8%
  • Musketeer's "Stock Strike" SPD buff has been nerfed to +6/7/8/9/10

[h3]Boss Changes[/h3]
Several bosses are underperforming. Some more than others.
Warhawk likely requires some more extensive changes to her fight overall, but it's not quite in scope for us to completely rework her any time soon.
  • Levantine Janissary:
    -Accuracy on all of his attacks and his Riposte has been increased by 3
  • Wildlander Warhawk:
    -Now has 35% PROT
  • Greater Wurm:
    -The Maw Opens is now a free action that occurs if the Wurm Tongue is not alive at the start of a round
    -Wurm Tongue is now immune to Stun
  • Cactonid Alraune:
    -The time between using "Looking for Love" and "Matchmaker" has been decreased to 1 tn (she uses Looking for Love, uses another attack, and then uses Matchmaker)
  • Nucleic Core:
    -All Thicket Segments and the Core itself have had their Bleed Resist increased by 10% and Debuff/Mark Resist increased by 5%
    -"Take Root" now targets two random heroes

[h3]Monster Changes[/h3]
Certain values displayed in apprentice/veteran/champion format
  • Cactonid Arcanoid's Debuff/Mark Resist has been nerfed to 30/55/80%
  • Cactonid Hemophyll's Debuff/Mark Resist has been nerfed to 30/55/80%
  • Cactonid Supterpath's Debuff/Mark Resist has been nerfed to 30/55/80%
  • Ghoul Mother now drops her special trinkets from quest rewards. (Will need to pass a week for this to take effect)
  • Ghoul Mother's "Undead Dissonance" no longer lowers Torch and now clears Stealth
  • Ghoul Mother's "Ear-Splitting Wail" now lowers Torch
  • Oblivion Buzzer's SPD has been increased to 9/11/13
  • Oblivion Buzzer no longer buffs DMG vs Marked and SPD on its attacks
  • Oblivion Buzzer no longer uses "Mandibles" if there are no marked targets
  • Carrion Hive's Pheromones buffs have changed to +15/20/25% DMG, +5/7/10 DODGE
  • Carrion Hive's Pheromones buffs now Cures the party's Bleed/Blight/Debuffs/Marks/Stuns
  • Maggots, Plated Snails, and Spiders have found the Exposed Interior's climate too arid to live in, and will no longer spawn there
  • Double Legion Missionary mashes have been removed
  • Legion Missionary's "Invocation" bonus DMG vs Expiated has been decreased to +70%

[h3]Trinket Changes[/h3]
  • The Perfumer's Treasury Trinket line has had their Max HP downside increased by 5% at all levels
  • Commanding Visage has been buffed to give +10 ACC vs Levantine
  • Janissary's Trophy Set bonus has been changed to:
    Ripostes Attacks when hit
    Riposte: +10 ACC
  • Severed Progeny has been slightly reworked to:
    +10% Bleed Resist
    +10% Blight Resist
    +20% Disease Resist
    Buffs are doubled if any enemy is a Troglodyte
  • Gastrosaur's Trophy Set bonus has been changed to:
    +10% PROT if HP is below 80%
    +15% Healing Received if HP is below 40%
  • Heart Taker's Melee Armor Piercing Buff and Prot Debuff have been nerfed to ±10%
  • Lovingly Yours' Ranged Debuff/Mark Skill Chance Buff and Bleed/Blight Resist Debuff have been nerfed to ±10%

[h3]Misc. Changes[/h3]
  • Standardized all Trinkets and quirks that gave bonuses around 50 Torch to give bonuses "Below 51 Torch" and "Above 50 Torch"
  • The DMG buff received from using Alum on the Waxen Penitent curio has been nerfed to +20%
  • New Tutorial pop-ups have been added for Swarming enemies and for Day/Night Torches

Gameplay Patch 5 (4/17/2023)

Hello Crew!

This update looks to adjust some more pain points that players have been experiencing, as well as squash some more bugs that have been discovered.

Noticeable adjustments include:
-Removing Yngolian Random spawns from all dungeons
-Updating curio interactions so skeleton keys are a bit more useful
-Updating Prep stress to be significantly less impactful
-Adding some new Anti-Stealth measures to enemies
-New Party names!

This is likely our last large-scale balance update. We'll be focusing on creating and implementing new content after this one. We may still have a couple of smaller-scale adjustments to either fix bugs caused by this update or to remedy any extreme bugs or balance issues that are discovered.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed issue where Eldritchfire Capacitor Bank had an inconsistent tooltip on its Debuff
  • Fixed issue where the Scout Chance buff tooltip from Broken Down Dredge didn't stack
  • Fixed issue where the Debuffs from Horn of Fervor showed its Debuff chance
  • Fixed issue with the First Design trinket cooldown
  • Fixed issue where one of Dredge's Memento set bonus buffs didn't trigger properly
  • Fixed some issues where the Can't Be Guarded Debuff from certain trinkets could be cleared
  • Fixed issue where Otekhs disguised as Levantine Grunts, Wildlander Hellions, and Cactonid Hemophylls would transform if all valid targets for them to attack were stealthed
  • Fixed issue where Kvarotz Golems had slightly more Crit than intended in Champion difficulty
  • Fixed issue where Cactonid Hemophyll's "Filthy Fangs" didn't always attempt to apply a -Blight Res Debuff. Certain versions of the enemy didn't apply the Debuff.
  • Fixed issue where Apprentice Levantine Rakshasa had their Stun/Blight Resists flipped when in beast form
  • Fixed issue where Rattlers and Pliskins weren't able to surprise heroes
  • Fixed oversight where Alraune's Courter would indefinitely pass if it the Suitor was killed
  • Fixed issue where Alraune's Death narration didn't always play
  • Fixed issue where Suitor's "Shear" didn't have a sound on miss
  • Fixed issue where Alaraune's "Matchmaker" didn't clear guard/guarding on heroes that it captured
  • Fixed issue where Crusader's Riposte had no sound if he had the Ostvengr Banner Active
  • Fixed issue where Rictus Mortis' buffs hit the character limit
  • Fixed issue where Oblivion Buzzer's HP didn't scale correctly in higher difficulties
  • Fixed issue where Kvarotz Apihr's "Creeping Wisp" wasn't applying a Stress Received Debuff
  • Fixed issue Dredge would overheat when using "Amber Fumigation" while on 80 Heat
  • Fixed issue where self-debuff on the Necrobiote from the Decrepit Skeleton shovel interaction didn't scale with difficulty
  • Fixed Issue where Hexer's "Excruciating Pain" was unable to crit
  • Fixed issue where Judicator's Riposte Debuffs were guaranteed to apply
  • Fixed issue where Troglodyte Cultivator's "Ear Burster" did not reduce Death's Door Resist
  • Fixed more typos :)

  • Arbalest's "Sniper's Mark" can now target Pos 1
  • Dredge's "Wyrd Conflaguration" now has a -60% DMG Mod
  • Flagellant's "Suffer" DMG while Bleeding buff has been reduced to 15/17/20/22/25%
  • Flagellant's "Suffer" Bleed Chance while Bleeding Buff has had its scaling increased to 10/12/15/17/20%
  • Flagellant is no longer able to partake in the Amber Refinery and Tek Exchange activities
  • Highwayman's "Open Vein" now has a base ACC of 90 instead of 95
  • Houndmaster's "Hound's Harry" has had its bleed chance reduced to 100/110/120/130/140%
  • Leper's "Purge" now gives +4/5/6/7/8 ACC (was flat 5)
  • Musketeer's "Stock Strike" now still gives its SPD buff on miss
  • Occultist's "Amber Curse" and "Vulnerability Hex" are now Mystical
  • Veiled's "Grave Grasp" now has a -55% DMG Mod
  • Vestal's "Hand of Light" now buffs herself even on miss (Party buff still requires a hit though)
  • Vestal's base CRT on her Weapon has been increased by 1% to 2/3/4/5/6%
  • Vestal's "Mace Bash" CRT base increased by 4%, Hand of Light CRT base decreased by 1%, and Dazzling Light CRT base decreased by 1%
  • Crusader's base CRT on his Weapon has been increased by 1% to 4/5/6/7/8%
  • Crusader's Smite CRT base increased by 2%, Stunning Blow CRT base increased by 1%, and Holy Lance CRT base decreased by 1%

[h3]Boss Changes[/h3]
  • Yngolian:
    -No longer spawns at 0 torch, he only spawns from the curio.
    -Bleed/Blight Resistance have had their values adjusted to 65/90/115%
    -Cosmic Alignment no longer applies Stress, summons 2 Y-Cells instead of 1, and has a 1 tn cooldown
    -SPD has been increased by 4 in all difficulties
    -Y-Cells have had their Bleed/Blight Resistance values adjusted to 45/70/95%
  • Levantine Enchantress:
    -"Rapacious Devour" can no longer be Riposted
  • Wildlander Warhawk:
    -"Leeching Projectile" is now "Prickly Projectile". Instead of Leeching the target hero, it now applies a heavy Blight and Healing Received Debuff to the Target
    -"Chlorophyll Cannon" is now "Leeching Spew" and targets Pos 2+3+4 and instead of applying a Blight, it now applies Leeching
    -"Salvo of Steel" has had its Bleed amount reduced to 8/3
  • Troglodyte Gastrosaur:
    -Bleed/Blight Resistance have had their values adjusted to to 75%
  • Cactonid Alraune:
    -Courter and Suitor's Healthbars now change color when they have a hero inside of them to help signify that they are immune to DMG

[h3]Monster Changes[/h3]

  • All bosses now drop both of their trophy trinkets from quest rewards. (Will need to pass a week for this to take affect)
  • Levantine Rakshasa's "Spirit's Claws" now applies a +15/20/25% Stress Received Debuff
  • Levantine Rakshasa's "Cry of the Spirit" now deals significantly less Stress during Prep Round
  • Levantine Firewalker's "Pressure Malfunction" no longer buffs SPD
  • Levantine Firewalker's "Catastrophic Eruption" now applies 10/12/14 Stress
  • Levantine Appraiser's "Blinding Powder" now ignores and clear Stealth
  • Wildlander Bombard's "Reveal the Weaklings" no longer buffs her party's ACC/CRT, now instead it Debuffs the hero party's DODGE/Crits Received
  • Wildlander Bombards can no longer spawn in groups of 3
  • Wildlander Grinhounds and Wildlander Steelhounds "Calamitous Cackling" Horror is now a static 2/3, and its chance of application has been reduced to 50/60/70%
  • Wildlander Grinhounds and Wildlander Steelhounds "Calamitous Cackling" can no longer be used outside of Prep Round
  • Wildlander Grinhounds and Wildlander Steelhounds can now only use "Cackling Congregation" if they are the only enemy left alive

  • Wildlander Painwarden's "Lunar Embrace" now provides an "Ignores Stealth" Buff
  • Troglodyte Hunter's "Subhuman Bile" can no longer apply Symptoms during the Prep Round
  • Cactonid Verterephile's "Slobber" CRT has been reduced by 4% in all difficulties
  • Cactonid Verterephile's "Psychotropic Spray" Stumble duration decreased to 1 tn
  • Cactonid Necrobiote can now use "Dagger Dive" from position 2
  • Cactonid Hominid Duplicant's "Filth Powder" now ignores and clear Stealth
  • Horned Toad's Stun Resist has been reduced to 50/75/100%
  • Rattler's HP has been decreased by ~15% in all difficulties
  • Oblivion Buzzer's "Eye of the Swarm" now ignores and clears Stealth
  • Oblivion Buzzer's "Eye of the Swarm" Horror duration is reduced to 1 tn when used on Prep Round
  • Scout Buzzer's "Buzz Blast" now deals significantly less Stress during Prep Round
  • Scout Buzzer's "Buzz Blast" now Debuffs the target's Stress Received and Dodge
  • Lost Cleric's "Gleaning Glare" and "Blinding Glare" now ignores and clears Stealth
  • Kvarotz Tathuth's SPD has been reduced by 4 in all difficulties
  • Kvarotz Golem's "Marrow Cannon" now deals significantly less Stress during Prep Round
  • Kvarotz Apihr's "Malignant Incense" now provides an "Ignores Stealth" Buff

[h3]Curio Changes[/h3]
  • Stone Reliquary can now spawn in the Caverns and the Exposed Interior
  • Electrum Scraps now has a Honing Oil Interaction
  • Levantine Supplies now has a Skeleton Key Interaction
  • Half-Eaten Body Bag now has a Bandage Interaction
  • Broken-Down Dredge now has a Skeleton Key interaction
  • Skeleton Key interaction on the Wildlander Pillory now gives a Stress Heal instead of the Considerate quirk
  • Cleansing Salt interaction on the Legion Decapitations now gives a +35% Virtue Chance buff instead of the Undaunted quirk
  • The Wildlander Thrall Curio now gives 1/1.5/2 stacks of relics instead of a small bit of supplies/random loot

[h3]Trinket Changes[/h3]
  • Trinkets that apply Debuffs to exclusively the trinket holder can no longer have their Debuffs cleared
  • Halved CRT Debuff on Gunslinger's Buckle to -3%
  • Recovery Charm has had its Healing Received buffs reduced by 5% each
  • Two of Three now Steals Stealth on both Ranged and Mystical attacks
  • Amber Grinder now only gives +25% DMG and +30% Armor Piercing if has Refined Amber Dust in Inventory
  • Resurrection's Collar has been updated to:
    +25% Healing Received if HP is below 40%
    +75% Healing Received if on Death's Door
    -15% Max HP
  • Vial of Ashes has been updated to:
    On Friendly Skills: Self: Stealth if not already Stealthed(2 tns)
    +15% DMG if Stealthed
    -10 DODGE
    -6 SPD
  • Brawler's Gloves has been updated to:
    +20% DMG if in Position 1
    -5% CRT if in Position 1
    -3 SPD if in Position 1

[h3]Misc. Changes[/h3]
  • Reduced the chance of Medium-Length missions spawning in level 0 Dungeons
  • Low Torch no longer increases the chance of gaining stress from RNG-based stress attacks (this was vestigial from vanilla torch)
  • Automat's Jewelry Price has been reduced to 100, and its Lost Tek Price has been reduced to 150
  • Egg Trap in the Caverns has had its chance to apply Symptoms reduced to 15/20/25%
  • Kvarotz Otekh now counts as a Boss for the "Trophy Hunter" quirk
  • Daric Drops have had their min and max amounts reduced, should allow for a more consistent number of Darics being dropped
  • Added ~25 new Party names, and ill likely add more for Hexer/Veiled Comps down the line

Gameplay Patch 4 (4/7/2023)

Hello Crew!

This is just a follow up update that fixes some issues with yesterday's gameplay patch.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Removed some mashes that still included three swarmer enemies
  • Fixed issue with "Egg Clutch" Caverns obstacle giving buffs to heroes with Treasury Explorer/Tactician quirks
  • Fixed issue with Cactonid Necrobiote's "Tendril Sprouts" sometimes not having any sound
  • Fixed issue with Cactonid Necrobiote's "Tendril Sprouts" variants being knowledgeable to the hero
  • Fixed issue with one of the Exposed Interior very long champion quests not giving two very rare trinkets
  • Fixed minor visual issue with Treasury load screens
  • Fixed another issue with Grim Tambourine
  • Edited some sounds for the Lost Legion Punisher
  • Delayed Hexer's Vials sfx a little so they're more synced up with the animation
  • Long Champion Quests no longer give two Very Rare trinkets
  • Fixed some typos
