Hostile Mobs Have Arrived in Farlands!

After the update that introduced social relationships, the whole team jumped straight into the next big thing: version 0.5, which brings hostile mobs to the mines.
In this Steam post, I’ll walk you through what’s new and how we’re planning to roll out the upcoming content over the next few weeks.

HOSTILE MOBS

The main highlight of this update is the introduction of hostile mobs. Since version 0.1, the only mine in the game featured the Murlusas—a small proof of concept of what enemies in Farlands might be like.
From now until the final version, we’ve got a total of 18 enemies planned—six for each of the three mines in Farlands, each with its own behavior and mechanics.
But for this 0.5 update, you’ll get to meet just four enemies for now: two in Bohr and two in Hafnir.
Every Farlands enemy has been designed with unique behavior—rolling turtles that smash rocks, robots that steal your stuff, crystal bees that hatch from nests and protect them… Each one brings something different to the table. And because of that complexity, we’d rather introduce them slowly and make sure they work well than rush them all in at once and risk things breaking.
So, starting now, we’ll be adding one or two new enemies every couple of weeks until they’re all in the game. This way, we can make sure each one is solid and won’t blow up your game.

NEW MINE – HAFNIR

Alongside these new enemies, you’ll now be able to explore Hafnir Mine, which had been locked until now. Inside, you’ll find 100 levels full of secrets, rewards, and a tragic story—but we’ll leave that part for you to uncover.
This mine uses a unique checkpoint system different from Bohr’s, with mine carts you’ll have to repair using scrap scattered throughout the levels. But just like in Bohr, if you’re feeling bold, you can skip levels and go deeper straight away (at your own risk, of course).

NEW EVENTS

This update also adds 10 new social events: a new piece of the main story, a moment with Hunter in the new mine, and the next step in your relationships with the bachelors and bachelorettes.
The stories of the different characters are evolving in some really exciting ways, and we highly recommend diving into that side of Farlands to get to know them better.

STEAM DECK SUPPORT

It took us a few weeks of headaches and fixes, but Steam has officially certified Steam Deck support. Finally!
We’ll keep improving controller support, menu usability, and we also plan to add features like button remapping in the future. But for now, Farlands is fully playable on Steam Deck, and we’ve earned that coveted green checkmark.

NEW FURNITURE, ACHIEVEMENTS & BUG FIXES

And of course, like every update, version 0.5 brings two new furniture sets, this time inspired by Hafnir. You’ll also find new achievements tied to the added content and a big batch of bug fixes, balancing changes, and general polish—the usual upgrade pack that brings us a little closer to the final version of Farlands.

While everything listed here is already available in the game, due to how we’re handling enemy rollout, this update will unfold gradually over time. We hope you understand that this approach is all about doing what’s best for the long-term health of Farlands. We’d rather give things the time they need than rush them out half-baked.
Thanks so much for your support!

0.4 is here!

Originally this update was scheduled for February (because of love, Valentine's Day and all that stuff). But ultimately, we decided to delay it a couple of weeks with the purpose of releasing a fully finished and well rounded update. And I think we have done it, because it comes loaded with new features:

Social relations system.

This is the most important point of this update and the one that gives its name to it: The social relations system is now fully implemented and from now on you will be able to progress your relationship with the other characters.

So far, it is possible to raise them to the second level (out of six), and you will do this by talking to them, joking, flirting or giving them gifts, which they may like or dislike.

First relationship event available

In addition to the social relationship system, once you reach the first level with any of the eight romanceable candidates, you will be able to see the first of the relationship events with them. This will allow you to get to know them a little better, and start their stories.

As with the social relationship system, each update after this point will include eight new events, one for each romanceable candidate.

Messaging system

Complementing all these social systems, a new tab and a new system has been added to the main menu: The messaging system.

From now on you will receive emails on specific days, after seeing certain events or before important things happen.

At the moment there are only a handful of emails ready, but more will be added so you can soak in the world of Farlands and its characters.

Complete rework of the menu

And of course, since we were working on this new tab in the main menu, we took the opportunity to do a complete refactoring and cleaning of the rest of the main menu tabs.

It is not something that you will notice directly in the gameplay, but now the navigation is smoother, the menus are better organized, the graphics are cleaner... It's all a little better.

Others

And we could really finish here the update and it would be a good one. But we already warned you that this one came packed, because along with all these new systems, we have added or fixed the following things:

  • Improved Ultra-Wide support: If you're playing with an absurdly large screen, you should no longer have problems with interface sizes.

  • Accessibility option to increase the size of the interfaces: Text is too small? Don't worry! Now you can enlarge it with an option in the menu.

  • Improved SteamDeck support: Short of re-passing certification, small things have been fixed that made the gameplay on SteamDeck not optimal, now it should be much more comfortable.

  • Improved controller control: The mouse is no longer annoying on the screen and navigation with controller is more comfortable.

  • Sprinklers: Sprinklers of levels higher than basic now work and can be crafted, and not only that: Now they can also be rotated. How crazy!

  • Three new furniture sets to unlock and discover: Two Goddol-inspired furniture sets and a third one in modern style.

  • New achievements available: All those related to the new systems in this update.

  • General game polish: Minor fixes all over the place and little things that are not visible to the naked eye, but make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

And finally, the most important of all.

  • From now on Gorg does this sometimes:

Now that we're releasing this update, we'll be keeping an eye out for a couple of weeks for possible issues that come up, and sooner rather than later we'll get to 0.5, which will focus on hostile Mobs and improving the Farlands mining experience.

Thank you all very much for your patience and love, this project would not be possible without you!

A big update is coming!

Hello everyone! It's been a few weeks since the last update and it's about time we bring you all up to date, so let's get straight to the point:

In two weeks update 0.4 will arrive!

This update focuses mainly on NPCs, bachelors, dialogs and mails.

To give you an idea of the scope of this update, we estimate that over 1000 new lines of dialogue will be added to Farlands!

That is: The first love event with each bachelor and bachelorette, emails that you will be able to receive on your PDA, dialogues that will vary depending on the progress of the story or your relationship with the NPCs... The complete pack.

We are convinced that this update will be very worthwhile and will give a new (and expected) layer of depth to Farlands to bring the game a little closer to version 1.0.

We will update you very shortly with all the details of what this new update will include, so stay tuned.

Thank you very much for your patience and support!

We have a Christmas present for you!

After the release of 0.3, the next scheduled update is 0.4 which focuses on social relations with neighbors. However, since that update is still some time away, the Farlands team has prepared an intermediate update with some special Christmas content, to celebrate the holidays, and to make the wait more enjoyable. The update comes with the following content:

A new planet! GODDOL

The colorful, tropical and sunny planet Goddol has been added to the destinations you can explore. There you will find new insects, fish, artifacts, resources, beautiful views and Hunter, with whom you will be able to talk a little bit.

Weather effects!

(Here we are cheating a bit because this was part of 0.3, don't tell anyone). Weather effects have already been implemented in your farm: different types of rain, heat waves, snow, wind and even a storm so strong that you won't be able to leave your house for a day.

New Christmas furniture!

Available in some of the stores, you can now buy some Christmas furniture to decorate your farm or your home: some gifts, a Christmas tree and even a typical Catalan Christmas decoration: “The Caga Tió”, a log that shits gifts when it is hit (local traditions are very odd).

And more!

Along with these additions, important fixes have also been made, both related to game balance and bug fixes: the tooltips have been simplified to make them more usable, the different types of weeds have been unified to make it less confusing, the Ark has undergone changes and new items have been added and we have polished many things related to the localization.

So what's next?

After this update comes the holidays. Right now we have a programmer on vacation, the designer is leaving next week and everyone wants to rest a bit and join their loved ones to celebrate Christmas. So, although we will continue working, we will also be a few days off, the team has earned it.

Happy holidays to all and see you in 2025 with more updates!
