Sky: Children of the Light News

Patch Notes - April 17, 2025 - 0.29.0 (319554 Steam)

A new Season comes to Sky on the wings of a fabled Blue Bird! Plus what would this time of year be without two of Sky’s most vibrant events: Days of Nature and Days of Color. And for those Sky kids out there who have wished they could fit more items into the Nest to create the most amazing room, café, sculpture, or plushie museum ever—well, this update has a new feature that can help you out.

Season of the Blue Bird

What does it take to heal a heart? Sky’s newest Season brings back a family of Spirits who are on the search for a legendary blue bird said to have the power to heal sadness. Join them as they search for this creature to lift a weight from the heart of a young child, and as you complete Seasonal Quests, you’ll gradually discover the true nature of the Blue Bird.

As you spend time with this group of Spirits, they’ll teach you new expressions, and each offers a range of items reflecting the story of the Season—capes, outfits, hats, boots, and more, plus two Ultimate Gifts!

The Season starts on April 21 (all times PDT, UTC -7) and continues through July 6th.

Days of Nature

For three weeks beginning April 28, a new form of Darkness traps Light Creatures who need your aid. Swim to set them free, and they’ll grant you Light in return for your kindness.

Different Light creatures appear through each phase of the event—but beware, because Dark Creatures have also arrived, and they lurk beneath the waters, on the lookout for unsuspecting Sky kids!

Each day, gather Event Light to forge up to five Event Tickets per day—plus, 15 one-time bonus Tickets are hidden around the event area. These can be used to unlock two of this year’s new cosmetics: the Ocean Waves outfit and the Ocean Manta hair.

Other items include the Ocean Sea Foam Set in the in-game shop, which captures the shimmering beauty of water in both a cape and a pair of boots ($24.99). Items from previous years are returning with the tides too—the Nature Wave Mask and Nature Wave Scarf will be offered for Candles and Hearts, respectively. For details on other items, check out the patch notes from previous years!

Days of Nature has always been a time to give back. Sky continues its partnership with The Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ridding the world’s oceans and rivers of plastic pollution. This year the event will again offer special IAPs to support charity efforts focused on real-world cleanup work in oceans and waterways.

Half of the total list price of items listed here will be donated to these efforts (these items are also marked in-game). The remaining amount will cover platform fees and a portion of development.
General Fixes and Improvements:
• [Android] Resolved right trigger bug when using an Xbox One controller, and the LT button on Xbox wireless controllers.
 • ✶ [iOS] Keyboard will not remain stuck open after highlighting a word in the text entry box and then using the device’s “Look Up” function.
 • ✶ [PC] Fixed issues with shaders and excessive bloom effects when going through the Constellation Gate into the Vault of Knowledge Archives area.
 • The rock was enjoying a weekend back home, and their jellyfish friends invited them to a huge game of hide ‘n' seek. It kept TRYING to hide in the sands of its favorite beach, but for some reason Sky kids kept digging them up! The rock hadn't realized the Sky kids were playing, too, so it called in reinforcements to help hide! It was a fun game, but as the rock traveled onwards, it thought of places that might be better to hide next time.

Chasing the Blue Bird: A New Season in Sky

Hope is fragile. Sometimes, it feels just out of reach—something we chase but never quite grasp. In Season of the Blue Bird, beloved Spirits return to share more of their story—one inspired by Maurice Maeterlinck’s timeless play, The Blue Bird, about the search for happiness and the chance to mend what is broken.

What does it take to heal a heart?

A quiet sadness has settled over a young child. Heart heavy, no one seems to know how to lift the weight. But a wise grandparent remembers a story—an ancient legend of the Blue Bird, a creature said to hold the power to heal sorrow.

In this new Season, you’re called to help the child find the Blue Bird. But the path isn’t straightforward. To uncover the bird’s true nature, you’ll journey alongside the child’s family—each of them having seen the Blue Bird before—or so they thought.

They’ll take you to places where they once searched for meaning, believing the bird might hold the answers they sought. With each encounter, you’re not just chasing a bird—you’re uncovering what it means to truly see someone’s pain and stand beside them in it.

As you piece together the family’s stories, you’ll begin to understand that the Blue Bird is more than a fleeting symbol of hope—it’s a reflection of something far more profound.

A moment of transformation

As the search for the Blue Bird draws to a close, what you find may not be what you expected. But in that final moment, something else begins to unfold.

As the saying goes, sometimes what we’re looking for has been with us all along. Where is joy truly found? What kinds of happiness are fleeting, and what kinds endure? The answers may not be clear, but that’s part of the wonder.

Each step of this journey is an invitation—to look closer, to listen deeper, and to discover that perhaps, the greatest treasures are the ones we least expect. The question is—will you recognize it when you see it?

A Bloom to Remember: Rediscover The Little Prince in Sky

Spring is just around the corner, and this time it's blooming alongside a friend very dear to our hearts. From March 24th through April 13th, as the trees blossom and petals drift through the air, Days of Bloom, Sky’s most tranquil and dreamy event returns, and this year, a beloved visitor (and his teleporting cape) is arriving with it.

During the Sky x Le Petit Prince Encore event, the Little Prince invites you back to the stars to experience his timeless story again. For those who have been not-so-quietly hoping, the complete set of Little Prince quests is returning, now presented in full color. But this limited-time event isn’t only about revisiting his story.

For the first time, you'll also have a chance to share your own story too! Throughout the event, you can create rose messages—special notes that bloom from the earth, just like message boats but rooted in the landscape.

These messages can be placed for friends, left for passing travelers, or offered as quiet reflections to the world. Unsure what to write? Thoughtful, heartfelt prompts inspired by the Little Prince will be there to help spark something meaningful. (We’re already feeling emotional just imagining the beautiful things you'll share.)

Exploration has its rewards, too. As you wander, keep an eye out for pockets of hidden beauty scattered across the realms. You might even discover a few bonus Event Tickets tucked behind a rosebush or around a quiet corner. Taking the scenic route has never been so rewarding—so slow down, breathe in the petals, and enjoy the view.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Days of Bloom without flowers everywhere you turn. Throughout the event, blossoms and wildflowers will gradually transform Home, Hidden Forest, Forgotten Ark, and Prairie Peaks. These spaces become even dreamier this time of year, perfect for relaxing, exploring, and soaking in the peace of the changing season.

We hope to see you out there, wandering with a rose in hand. Let’s make this one to remember.

Updating Sky’s Beta Program

Hello everyone! Providing the best experience for our players has always been our focus here at thatgamecompany, and we want to thank our beta testers who have helped us on this journey. We’re excited to share some changes in how we handle beta moving forward to further improve how we work together and build an even stronger connection with our testers.

Sky has grown so much over the years. Our teams have tried to balance changes to the development and production process with the demands it all puts on the studio’s beta testing structure—which has been mostly unchanged since 2018—but it was clear that we needed to evolve the process to make improvements.

Starting on March 20th, we’ll be restructuring our beta program to improve feedback collection, enhance security against hacked leaks, and create a more efficient testing process which will allow us to partner more closely with our testers. As part of this transition, on this day all existing beta access will be removed and beta accounts will be reset.

Players interested in participating in the beta program can apply through an open application process, and we’ll select testers from the applicant pool when participants are needed. We’ll rotate new testing groups too, which will create opportunities for even more dynamic feedback from various perspectives as more people participate in testing.

Key Changes and What to Expect
 • New application process: Instead of first-come-first-served invite links, Sky players interested in helping to test can apply through a questionnaire—we’ll share the form soon! When new groups of testers are needed, applicants will be contacted directly.
 • Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) required: Testers will need to sign an NDA, meaning no beta footage or content can be recorded or shared outside of designated private beta channels on Discord.
 • Discord-focused testing community: Our official Sky server will be the center of feedback, conversation, and reporting for everyone participating in a round of testing.

This was a tough decision, as we have relied on our entire beta community who has always been there for us. We wanted to address the ongoing concerns and take meaningful steps to create the best version of Sky with your valued feedback.

Why These Changes?

This new approach allows us to:
 • Gather more structured and more varied feedback
 • Ensure greater security for in-development content
 • Maintain higher testing standards for future updates

Next Steps and Timeline

Beta will be shut down on March 20th. Exact dates are subject to change, but we plan to share the beta testing sign-up form within the next few weeks. Our new beta program will reopen around the week of April 14th.

A Message to Our Community

We deeply appreciate the passion and dedication of our players. While these adjustments will take some getting used to, we’re confident they will lead to a stronger game with smoother updates for everyone.

Hand in hand, we’re building a better Sky—and we look forward to collaborating with our testers to make that happen. Thank you for your continued support, and for flying in the skies with us together!

Hotfix - March 11, 2025 - 0.28.6 (315083)

Greetings, Adventurers! We have a hotfix!

Changes in this update include:

 • Fixed hint text during the 3rd Seasonal Quest not appearing correctly in localized languages.
 • Fixed erroneous error message that displayed when trying to save chat text to the favorite emote menu that couldn’t be saved.
 • Lighting is back to normal in places like the Valley of Triumph’s Coliseum and Daylight Prairie’s Sanctuary Islands.
Days of Treasure
• Shovel prompt only displays when player is close to it.
 • Applied some basic laws of physics to the shovel so that while it can dig up treasure, it cannot pierce a hole into the very fabric of the world that a hapless player could fall into.
 • Fixed a missing text hint when attempting to unlock a Dye Blessing spell without having enough Event Tickets for it.
 • Restored missing dialogue that should display after gathering all six Event Tickets from the daily event activities.

As always, we look forward to hearing your feedback, and encourage you to join the community discussion on our official Discord server at discord.gg/thatskygame!
