- Fixed an issue where the "...and my Sickle" Achievement would unlock based on the Bandit's Class level instead of the Alchemist's

Talented 0.13 Update - Cooking by the Book

Greetings Talented Gamers!

It's update time again and we sure have a big boy for you this time!

Alchemist

Our 6th and final Class The Alchemist is here to Craft Potions and Detonate Runes.

Combine 4 different ingredients to create 1 of 256 different Potion Variations to take down your foes.

Alchemist is releasing with a full set of Core Talents and a Full Base Package which combined give him over 30 Talents in his arsenal.

We'll also be releasing 3 Alchemist Challenges, with new skins and a Legendary Talent to unlock.

New Enemies

Some new faces coming this update! It's been quite a while since we added to the enemy roster, so we're really excited to hear what you think of these bad boys.

Tatty the Rat will run in, burrow and then slowly creep towards you when he unburrows. Sorry Orbs!

The Treedle Twins are all fun and games until you kill one of them, his brother will *not* thank you for it.

1 enemy = 7 blobs? I hope you brought AoE!

New Elites

Talent Packages

Something we didn't announce in our devlogs, we have 10 new Talent Packages coming in this update!

Wizard, Archer, Warrior, Summoner and Bandit will be getting 2 each... We won't reveal too much as surprises are fun, but here's a couple of highlights:

Archer will be getting a Quiver Package, how many Quivers Talents can you find? How many shots will you be firing?

Bandit will be able to upgrade the shop with one of his new packages!

Balance

We're generally quite happy with the balance of our Classes after our 0.12+ balance patch, but there's always room for improvement and there's definitely some issues with Medium (Night 10) enemy balance we want to look at.

General
  • Talent Packages now distribute Talents evenly, so both Rares in the package will appear a more similar number of times
Enemies
  • Buster Health Points reduced to 8 (down from 10)
  • Busters now enrage closer to the player
  • Smushrooms now only buff enemies for 5 seconds (down from 8)
  • Smushrooms buff now lasts until the enemy dies
  • Increased the absolute maximum speed of enemies in the Eternal Nightmare

Bug Fixing/Quality of Life

  • Enemy Kill, Elite Kill and Talent Learn achievements can now be incremented and unlocked in Challenges
  • Gulfs now burrow to the correct position when Warrior has increased size
  • Guardian Unleashed now sets Warrior's Parry Chance to 100% and doesn't reduce it below 0% when the buff times out
  • Combo Talents will now correctly interact with Overconfident, no longer requiring you to gain a Combo Level for them to Activate
  • All Planned will no longer Activate when Mastery causes you to take damage while a Combo is present due to Overconfident
  • Mystery Talents no longer appear as Mystery Talents after being purchased until unhovered
  • Blight Shells now correctly contributes towards the Snail Collector Achievement
  • Damage numbers no longer move onto a second and third line when large enough
  • Talents that Activate when learning Rare Talents (e.g. Thesis and The Two Ring) will no longer Activate when an Ability is learnt

  • Bonus Ability Charges will now correctly apply when restarting the Zombies! Challenge
  • Throwing Weapons now increase in size as their damage increases
  • Zoom In/Zoom Out on the Talent Tree is now bound to the Z/X keys
  • Pressing Enter to exit the Talent Tree while a Tooltip is active will no longer cause the Tooltip to remain active
  • Reduced the bloom intensity to reduce the amount of flashing lights in Eternal Nightmare
  • The Bullet Heaven Achievement will now only unlock while playing Bandit
  • Various spelling an tooltip fixes
Performance

Eternal Nightmare crashes were a big topic last update, we expected some amount of this but not quite as many as we had! We've made many performance improvements to the game to improve stability in the hyper late game but this does include one additional core gameplay rule:

Enemies will no longer spawn if there are more than 500 enemies on screen (they will continue to spawn when one is killed)

This is *a lot* of enemies to be clear, it's only a realistic case around the 2 minute mark in Eternal Nightmare. We'll be closely monitoring this rule to see if it has undesired effects on gameplay through 0.13 and will look into alternatives if so.

That's a wrap! Looking forward to hearing all of your feedback, and it won't be too long until we're talking about what's coming in 0.14, so...

Devlog #56 - Cooking Challenge

Greetings Talented Challengers!

It's almost time for the newest round of Talented content to drop. There's good guys, bad guys and lots and lots of POTIONS. This is hopefully the last devlog before the update drops, we've just got the usual round of bug fixing, balancing and quality of life changes to do and then it will all be with you!

There's still a few bigs to reveal so let's get into it...

Alchemist Challenges

0.13 will be dropping with 3 challenges for the Alchemist. Each will reward you with either a Skin or a Legendary as usual so they're definitely worth checking out!

The Master Chef challenge will replace all Talents on the tree with [Forage], [Cultivate] and [Alchemy] so you'd better get crafting! If you're able to make enough gourmet potions to beat it, you'll be rewarded with the Chef Skin

The Whack a Rune challenge will give you 60 seconds to destroy 50 Runes, but you'll have loads of abilities to do it!

Note: Runes explode when they're hit by abilities.

If you're able to beat it, you'll get access to a powerful Rune Legendary Talent that will shorten an enemy's lifespan.

Achievements

20 new achievements are coming! With the final Class dropping we'll be adding a series that rewards you for completing feats of strength on all 6.

Each Class will also be getting a unique Achievement added to their set.

And, of course, Alchemist will have his very own Achievement Set to collect!

And that's about it for content this update! Of course there's quite a bit that we've not revealed so there should be plenty of surprises when you boot up 0.13 in a few weeks.

We're really looking forward to your feedback on all of this and everything else coming in Talented's future!

Devlog #55 - The Bad and the Ugly

Greetings Talented Gamers!

We're closing in on 0.13's completion, but there's still quite a bit to reveal.

The Face of Evil

It's been quite some time since we've added new enemies to the Talented roster but that ends today! This update will see 3 new additions...

Tatty the Rat

This little guy is ready to annoy! Appearing on either Night 2 or 5 he'll race into the lane and burrow. when he's close he will pop back up but he'll be so tired from all of that hard work that he'll move very slowly!

The Treedle Twins

These little guys spawn in a pair, and while they might seem harmless at first - if you kill one, the other will become extremely angry and run you down! They'll have a chance to spawn at Night 10, so prepare if you can!

Omegoo

Our biggest Blob yet! When they Omegoo dies it will spawn 2 Mega Blobs, which can each then become 2 Lil' Blobs. By Night 15 you'd better be ready to take on a whole army-in-a-box (or blob?).

New Elites!

We're further sprucing up the enemy pool with a pair of new elite traits that can be applied to all enemies. Keep an eye out for these in your 0.13 runs!

Metallic

Slow and steady wins the race. Metallic elites are slower than normal enemies and take reduced damage and knockback. The real headline - they cannot be Critically Struck.

Chromatic

From another plain of existence, Chromatic elites are slightly faster than normal enemies but every hit inflicts double knockback. While that doesn't sound *so* bad, they take 50% damage from everything other than Basic Attacks... Sorry Alchemist...

...and that's your lot for this week! We can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of these little guys when the update drops. As always we'll be listening closely to feedback to ensure they fit in properly with the rest of the game so do head over to the Discord if you have any thoughts.

Next time we'll be pulling the curtain on the new Alchemist Challenges and the Skins that come with them! Until then...

Devlog #54 - Brewski

Greetings Talented Potion Crafters!

It's another week of Alchemist reveals this time! As always we'll be holding back some of unique features of the new Class to give you some surprises when the update drops - but there's more than enough to fill a devlog and do that, so let's move!

Back to Basics

As mentioned last week, the Alchemist's Basic Attack is not their strong suit. That being said it does have a unique home in the Talented Combat System as the only Basic Attack with piercing from the start of the run.

Although you can make use of the piercing to clear low health enemies in the early waves, it only deals 3 Damage and there won't be any ways of increasing that damage - so don't rely on it too much!

Side Hustles

The headline of the Alchemist is certainly the Potion Crafting system, but they will also be dropping with a full suit of Base and Core Talents including 5 Legendaries!

Sigil Talents give you a chance to fill lanes with powerful Runes that can both deal large amounts of damage and apply Status Effects. The only problem is you'll need to trigger them yourself by hitting them with an ability!

We'll be calling back to some of our classic Talented Talents with Alchemist.

Not only will they have access to Ability Power, but the Loot Mechanic from Archer will be making a return. Also.. A new twist on the fan favourite Magical Hat

More Fire Power!

Of course it wouldn't be an Alchemist reveal without more talk on Potion Crafting!

Lances are a brand new style of Ability that can be crafted. Add an ingredient to Bloodthistle and you'll get one of these bad boys to hurl at your enemies.

Although.. why stop at one when you could add Mageleaf...

I think I've spilled enough of our Potion Master's secrets for one week! It'll be onwards to something much more sinister next time... The first new Enemies since our Steam release... If you listen closely you can already hear one of them squelching...
