The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles News

Steam briefly gets a Crap Dungeon, the devs of which are "hoping it’s not actually crap"

Naming things is often difficult. Accurately translating things is often difficult. Put the two together, and you get the situation roguelike dungeon crawler The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles has recently found itself in, when the Japanese translation of its name on Steam saw it accidentally re-dubbed "Crap Dungeon".

Let's face it, this has happened to all of us. You're working on a 2D adventure about delving into crypts, it's picked to show up at the Tokyo Game Show, and then next thing you know you're in a crap dungeon without a sword-shaped paddle. Ok, maybe not all of us.

The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles – Release date and new demo!

[p][/p][p]Greetings, adventurers![/p][p]We’re thrilled to announce that The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles will officially launch on October 23, 2025 (or October 24, depending on your time zone).[/p][p]Very soon, the brand-new demo will be available on Steam, showcasing the game in its almost final form: about 99%! The only things missing are a few music tracks (coming very soon) and the graphics for some achievements.[/p][p][/p]
What makes The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles truly unique
• [p]2D dungeon crawler in pixel art with roguelite elements, where every level is a unique universe regenerated procedurally.
    [/p]
  • [p]Eccentric humor, pop culture references, easter eggs, and nods to classic arcade games.
    [/p]
  • [p]Three distinct game profiles that completely transform the experience:[/p]
    • [p]Explorer – stealth and puzzles galore.[/p]
    • [p]Resolver – story and dialogue in the spotlight, with the option to avoid fights.[/p]
    • [p]Destroyer – pure action, frenetic battles, and Rage to be managed down to the last drop.
      [/p]
  • [p]Tactical and reactive combat system, where precise aiming and timed parries combine with strategic Rage management. Enemies learn, coordinate, and adapt to your moves.
    [/p]
  • [p]And… even if the game doesn’t always take itself too seriously, it hides an important and multi-layered story that evolves and truly changes based on the player’s choices.
    [/p]
[p]We invite everyone to:[/p]
  • [p]Try the new demo![/p]
  • [p]Add the game to your wishlist to support us and make sure you don’t miss the release date!
    [/p]
[p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]
What’s new in this demo
• [p]Saves wiped! Major game rebalance: as a result, old saves had to be deleted. Don’t panic—this should be the last time![/p]
  • [p]New combat intro! Doesn’t change the gameplay but adds the right dose of tension before every battle.[/p]
  • [p]Improved journal: clearer, prettier, and more useful.[/p]
  • [p]Tactical battle pause: you can now pause while still observing the battlefield to better plan your strategy. Not available for the Destroyer (you wanted it hard, right?).[/p]
  • [p]Tweaked enemy combat styles: small adjustments to make them more interesting (and less predictable).[/p]
  • [p]Adjusted some Hero powers.[/p]
  • [p]Various bugfixes: weapons that behave as they should, recipes now complete, typos fixed, and the game exploding a bit less… all thanks to the reports from many players![/p][p][/p]
[p]Have fun![/p][p]The Development Team[/p]

New Update: Visual Improvements and Trap Previews!

A new beta is here!

This time it’s not just about fixing a few pesky bugs (though yes, we’ve done that too – huge thanks to everyone who reported them!), but also about making The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles even better to look at—and to play.

From the frontlines of full game development:
We’ve reached level 49! Only one more to go before the entire campaign is complete. After that: balancing, fine-tuning, and final polish. The release is getting closer... get ready, adventurers!

Here’s what’s new in this beta:
- Custom backgrounds for each biome: they don’t affect gameplay, but the dungeon has never looked this good!
- Trap previews (fire jets, spikes, and more): Resolver and Explorer profiles will now get a brief visual hint before certain traps trigger. A small advantage... before the pain.
- Screen shake effects during traps (when taking damage) and combat (on critical hits). Naturally, there’s a toggle if you prefer a more stable experience.
- New loading screen backgrounds, now clearly visible thanks to a refreshed layout.
- All journal illustrations have been added—ready to be browsed through.
- Many player-reported bugs have been fixed—thank you so much! You’re our favorite bugbusters! ❤️

As always, feel free to drop by our Discord server if you want to chat, share feedback, or just say hi!

See you soon, and happy dungeon crawling!

New Demo Available! Full Controller Support, Animated Intro & Lots of Love!

Hey everyone!
This weekend we were at Torino Comics, playing “at home” and letting tons of visitors try the new demo.
We got loads of feedback, tips, and appreciation — and we’re proud to say the full redesign of the controller interface really paid off.
Now everything is fully playable with a controller, but we also optimized the experience overall: combat is smoother and less chaotic (even with mouse and keyboard), inventory management is easier, and there are plenty of other improvements you’ll discover as you play.
Yes, because the demo we showed at Torino Comics is now available on Steam — for everyone!

Enjoy!

Here’s what’s new:
- The combat screen got a full redesign: it’s now clearer, easier to read, and less overwhelming! You can pick powers or use belt items in a dedicated screen, with auto-pause until you're done.
- Controller support is finally done right: intuitive commands, smooth response, and tons of visual hints to guide you right away.
- A brand-new animated intro has arrived — and trust us, it’s worth watching… maybe start a new game? 👀✨
- With the big UI overhaul, we also took the chance to squash a few old minor bugs. Hopefully we didn’t add new ones! (If you find anything that crashes, glitches, or breaks… you know what to do: report it!)

We’re also waiting for you on our Discord server for more details and discussions.
