Once a promising blend of League of Legends and World of Warcraft, I'm gutted that this new roguelike only lasted a month

Barely a month out of Early Access, fantasy PvE roguelike game Evercore Heroes Ascension has announced it's switching off the lights for good this week. Developer Vela Games confirmed the news via Steam, bidding farewell to Lumerea once and for all. Vela says that, despite exploring the possibility of "removing servers and switching to peer-to-peer" to keep the game alive, it was ultimately untenable.

[p]Hey everyone,[/p][p][/p][p]We have a difficult update to share. After exploring every option we could, we’ve made the decision to shut down the game and turn off the servers. The game requires online authentication to run, and we’re no longer able to support the server infrastructure needed to keep it online.[/p][p][/p][p]We came into launch with strong momentum and a lot of excitement, but the early reviews and reception hit us harder than expected, and we were never able to recover from that. With a small team and limited resources, we pushed as long as we could, but it eventually became clear we couldn’t keep the game sustainable.[/p][p][/p][p]We also explored alternatives to keep it alive, including removing servers and switching to peer-to-peer, but the game simply wasn’t built to support that kind of networking without a massive rebuild. With what we had left, it just wasn’t realistic.[/p][p][/p][p]The servers will be shut down on Thursday at 11:00 AM UTC.[/p][p]After that time, the game will no longer be playable.[/p][p][/p][p]This isn’t where we hoped to end up, and it’s tough to write this message. Still, part of the journey is the end, and this is where this chapter of Lumerea closes. We’re proud of what we built, and we’re grateful to everyone who played, shared feedback, stuck with us, and believed in what we were trying to do. The community may have been small, but it was passionate — and that meant a lot to us.[/p][p][/p][p]We’ll keep the community channels open a little while longer for anyone who has questions or just wants to stay connected. 1.0 UPDATE is OUT!

[p][/p][p][/p][h2]Greetings Heroes![/h2][p][/p][p]Today we are releasing our 1.0 Update which signals the end of Early Access for Evercore Heroes: Ascension.[/p][p][/p][p]This will be our last update to the game with no more further updates or new content to follow. We worked our hardest to add as much from our backlog into this 1.0 release as we could![/p][p][/p][p]Let's dive in![/p][p][/p][h3]New hero: Grayce![/h3][p][/p][p]Being both graceful as deadly - Grayce, our very own take on a dancer killer robot has been let loose as our newest damage dealing hero![/p][p][/p][p]As the name suggests, she excels at dealing a lot of damage but does so gracefully! Twirling, swirling and dancing elegantly she'll dispose of all that stand in her way while giving them the performance of their lives![/p][p][/p][p]She's all about using a lot of abilities in swift succession. When her abilities meet certain expectation, she'll be allowed to use them again without additional cost like an encore to her performance! Perform enough of them and you'll be able to stun your enemies with your dashing moves! This gives Grayce the ability to dance across the battlefield and dealing tons of damage.. but only if you do it right! [/p][p][/p][p]One wrong move and the curtain will fall![/p][p][/p][p]1.. 2.. 3... Step![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Grayce will be available to unlock with in-game currency just like Ace Everstar was on release.[/p][p][/p][h3]Change to multiplayer[/h3][p][/p][p]With the game no longer being in development we unfortunately have to limit certain online systems and you'll no longer be able to use matchmaking or play multiplayer.[/p][p][/p][p]All your progress and (future) unlocks will however stay intact! You can keep going for runs and unlocking content just like before![/p][p][/p][p]We've worked on making balance changes that'll make solo play more enjoyable no matter which hero you like to play! [/p][p][/p][h3]Hero skins are back![/h3][p][/p][p][/p][p]Play in style and claim your pack of amazing hero skins FOR FREE![/p][p][/p][p]You can claim your pack of hero skins in Castle Averae by interacting with Ace's magical mirror on the top right of the castle! Once claimed, you can change the skin of your hero in the same place you also select your hero![/p][p][/p][p]There is a skin for every hero in the game so whoever you prefer to play - there will be a skin for you![/p][p][/p][h2]PATCH NOTES[/h2][p][/p][p]\[New content][/p][p]Grayce - the new dancing DPS hero is now available![/p][p][/p][p]\[1.0 Balance Changes][/p]
  • [p]Dash has been reduced to 3 second cooldown for all players. The Soulbound Bloom Dash Cooldown now reduces Dash to 1.5 second cooldown.[/p]
  • [p]Small and Medium Luum pickups have had their values increased slightly[/p]
  • [p]Most enemy health values have been reduced, especially larger enemies, to make the game faster paced[/p]
[p]Beko[/p]
  • [p]Increased Basic Attack damage and his bonus effectiveness. Little guy hits hard![/p]
  • [p]Increased the duration of the Stun on the Lantern explosion spell. Minor stun is now 1 second, and major stun is now 4 seconds[/p]
[p]Riiva[/p]
  • [p]Weapon Throw and Smash Damage have been tuned up[/p]
  • [p]Riiva now has a Critical strike chance of 2% on all Basic Attacks[/p]
  • [p]Health has been increased to 150 base[/p]

1.0 Release Announcement

[p][/p][p][/p][h2]Greetings Heroes![/h2][p][/p][p]Today we are announcing that we will soon be leaving Early Access and releasing our 1.0 update. [/p][p][/p][p]Over the past months we've poured our hearts into making Evercore Heroes: Ascension the best it can be, working side by side with you, making the game better and more fun with each update! Unfortunately we’ve reached a point where we will no longer be able to further continue development.[/p][p][/p][p]This means that with the release of 1.0, we will be wrapping up active development for Evercore Heroes: Ascension. There won’t be any additional content updates, patches, or new features after this release.[/p][p][/p][p]This decision has not been made lightly, but unfortunately we are not able to sustain further development of the game.[/p][p][/p][h3]What will happen next?[/h3][p][/p][p]We’re committed to making sure Evercore Heroes: Ascension will remain playable and enjoyable for all of you! We are working on one more final patch, releasing alongside 1.0, which will include new content, bug fixes and balance changes designed to leave the game in a good state for the future.[/p][p][/p][p]With this patch our priority is to make sure you can continue to jump into Lumerea, play your favorite hero, and continue to enjoy the game-. [h3]QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS[/h3]
  • [p]\[SHOP VISUAL UPDATE] The in-run shop has been updated to provide more information about the shards you’re purchasing, as well as display information more clearly on gamepad.[/p]
    • [p]NOTE: The shop will still not tell you if a shard is at “max level”, but we will look to add this in a future update.[/p]
  • [p]\[DISCONNECT MESSAGE] We have added a message that informs you if you have become disconnected from the progression services and will not receive meta-rewards.[/p]
    • [p]This was sometimes happening in the background due to high latency or poor network conditions.  Players would still be able to play the game, but then would mysteriously not receive rewards.[/p]
[p] [/p][h3]BALANCE CHANGES[/h3]
  • [p]\[PLAYER KNOCKBACK] Overall, we are happy with the displacement as a first pass, and will be continuing to iterate on this system, as overall it provides help for melee based Heroes and greater impact.  We have tuned a few abilities down in this patch though, to create fewer moments of large, gameplay altering displacement in co-op.[/p]
  • [p]\[HEALING] We have adjusted the healing values for Lotus and Beko to scale between solo, duo, and trio game modes.  This should allow for better balance, but for Support heroes to still play their proper role.[/p]
    • [p]Lotus’s Healing Blossom now heals for 5/6/8, and the Luum cost has been reduced from 35 to 30.[/p]
    • [p]Lotus’s Bright Petals now heal for 2/3/4 on use.[/p]
      • [p]NOTE: Lotus’s most effective way to heal is still by using Seed of Light appropriately.[/p]
    • [p]Lotus’s Shearing Slash has had its damage reduced on hit from 200 to 175.  This will slightly reduce the self heal Lotus gets for this ability at base damage.[/p]
    • [p]Beko’s Health Sprout now heals for 6/9/12 over 2 seconds, and has had its Luum cost reduced from 35 to 25.[/p]
    • [p]Beko’s Lantern of Life now heals the lantern holder for 3/4/5 when an enemy is killed.[/p]
    • [p]Beko’s Miracle now heals for 5/8/10 per tick.[/p]
  • [p]\[ADVENTURE MODE BALANCE] We have increased the difficulty of enemies in the second half of Adventure Mode runs by 10-15%, to create a stronger ramp later in the run.  We want to keep the first half achievable in all modes.[/p]
  • [p]\[CORE POWER- FIGHTING FIT] Has had its stacking Ability Power bonus reduced from 5% per stack to 3% per stack.[/p]
  • [p]\[LUUM ORBS] Orbs that drop from barrels have had their values reduced by 5 each.[/p]
  • [p]\[IRONCRAG HOLLOW] Players will no longer encounter a Tank Golem on the very first island.[/p]
[p][/p][h3]BUG FIXES[/h3]
  • [p]\[HERO MOVEMENT & ATTACKS] We have continued to make several under the hood changes to basic attacks and movement.  Players should see fewer instances of heroes attacking without rotating, and in general attacks should be more consistent and feel better.[/p]
  • [p]\[IN RUN SHOP STUCK] Fixed a bug that was sometimes causing players to get stuck when interacting with multiple elements.[/p]
  • [p]\[FROST SHOOTER GOLEM] had a bug fixed that was causing them to fire their triple shot ability too often.[/p]
