1/19 Patch Notes

Active Testing Modes:

GAMEPLAY
  • Quick Play
    • Quick Play will randomly select either causal 12v12 CTF or 12v12 Bomb Rush.
  • Bomb Rush
    • Bombs now spawn in the world instead of being dropped by bots. 
    • Players with bombs can no longer use Pack Abilities.
    • Players can no longer recall while holding a bomb. 
  • Custom Matches
    • Custom lobbies will now fill Team A completely before filling Team B. 
  • General
    • CTF 7v7 mode panel readded. It is currently locked to focus on Quick Play and Bomb Rush testing. 
    • New loading screens added.
    • Game Mode name will display while waiting for players. 
    • Reduced damage number size.
    • Adjusted player nameplate position when viewed at a distance. 

Maps
  • Adjusted bomb stands. 
  • Katabatic
    • Adjusted flag stands.

FIXES
  • Fixed an issue with player overlays overlapping with character models, causing them to look much smaller than they actually are.
  • Fixed an issue where damage numbers would overlap with players.
  • Fixed an issue where players would fall through the terrain in Dangerous Crossing. 
  • Fixed an issue with camera placement while loading into Dangerous Crossing.

Known Issues
  • Dome Shield FX will disappear after being deployed.
  • Bomb icons may not update properly after being scored. 
  • Respawning may show abilities as blocked, but are still usable.
  • Honorfusor VFX sometimes gets stuck on in 1P.

GAMEPLAY
  • Movement
    • Refined jetpack physics to allow for more control, especially for “feathering” while moving at high speeds.
    • The Ski Toggle control now has three settings:
      • Hold to Ski: Press the “Ski” binding to ski, release the button to end skiing.
      • Standard Toggle: Press the “Ski” binding to ski. Press again to end skiing.
      • Dual Bind Toggle: Press the “Ski” binding to ski. Press the “Cancel Ski” binding to end skiing. The default binding for “Cancel Ski” is “C.”
    • Fixed an issue where other players could sometimes appear jittery while moving.
  • Bomb Rush
    • Players must pick-up bombs located around the map and run through the enemy team’s Exhaust Port to score.
  • Custom Matches
    • Join codes are now hidden.
    • Island map removed from map list. 
    • Added Dangerous Crossing map.
      • Dev Note: Like all our maps this is still WIP, but should imitate more traditional Tribes maps. This map is only available in Custom Matches in CTF mode this week.
    • Bomb Rush game mode and maps added to Custom Lobbies.
    • Players now return to the original Custom Lobby after a match ends.
    • Added new regions for Custom Lobbies:
      • Oceania
      • Asia
      • South America
  • General
    • Increased captures needed to win in CTF to 5.
    • Health Nuggets
      • Now heal 1,000 health over time instead of 50% of your max health
    • Generator health reduced by 15%. 
    • Temporary shields are now shown on player health bars and name plates.
    • New loading screens added. 
    • Players can now auto pass bombs and flags if they are within 15 meters of their teammates. 
    • Increased Conduit travel speed. 

FIXES
  • Fixed an issue where pickups such as the Flag and Health Nuggets would fall through terrain. 
  • Fixed an issue where players would sometimes cycle back into a custom match instead of returning to the lobby. 
  • Fixed an issue where players who join Team B voice chat in custom lobbies would not work.
  • Fixed an issue where projectile VFX would spawn at the wrong position.
  • Fixed an issue with shadow artifacting. 
  • Fixed an issue with buffering on full auto weapons.
  • Fixed an issue where the Repair Tool would not show HP in Training.
  • Fixed an issue where Custom Match Mutators were not applying correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where players using the Thumper would be slowed.
  • Fixed an issue where the Smoke Grenade SFX would continue to play after it exploded.

  • Armor classes have been resized to have unique hitboxes relative to their scale.
  • Weapons
    • Chain Guns
      • Enabled Binocular zoom.
    • Repair Tool
      • Removed from the third weapon slot and now on a universal hold keybind (Default ‘F’).
      • Repair tools can now heal friendly players. 
    • Phase Rifle
      • Increased hip fire spread.
      • Moved to the light loadout.
    • BXT1 Rifle
      • The BXT1 Rifle has been temporarily removed pending a rework.
    • Shocklance
      • Temporarily removed from loadouts
    • Added Thumper to medium loadout.
    • Gladiator added to heavy loadout.
    • Nova Colt
      • Moved to the medium loadout.
      • Fire rate slowed from .38 to .6
      • Damage increased from 150 to 210.
    • Spinfusors/Bolt Launchers/Thumper Projectile Speed reduced by 10%.

GAMEPLAY
  • Movement
    • FOV now adapted to speed (adjustable in the settings menu)
    • Camera movement on surfaces at speed (adjustable in the settings menu)
    • Improved Skiing Ground Control for all classes
    • Added visual effects particles to the camera in order to reinforce speed
  • Custom Matches
    • Mutators added
      • Mutators allow the lobby leader to adjust various class attributes. 
      • These are still in development and may not work properly. 
    • Players can now mute other players in custom lobbies. 
    • The Lobby Leader can now lock players from switching teams.
  • Time Trials Mode
    • New Time Trial Wavemist map added.
  • Training
    • New Training and shooting range map added. This is not a full tutorial, but meant for practice.
  • General
    • Reconnect
      • If a player crashes out of a game, upon relaunching, they will have the option to rejoin the match they were previously in if it is still running. 
    • VGS added:
      • V: Enter VGS
      • G: Right Menu (Comments)
      • C: Down Menu (Defense)
      • S: Left Menu (Taunts)
      • F: Up Menu (Offense)
      • Dev Note: this is a first pass at VGS. Voicelines and overall design may change in future passes. 
    • Flag captures required to win are reduced to 3 from 5.
    • Adjusted the collision height of the flag and score volume.
    • Adjusted flag drop physics to make the path more predictable.
    • Adjusted flag reset timer to 30 seconds.
    • Adjusted base turret logic so they have better sight.
    • The Scoreboard will now always show the player’s team first. 

MAPS
  • Adjusted some base stands to have more forward and backward angles of attack.
  • Conduits added to Katabatic and Drydock maps
    • Entering a Conduit will move the player up to the next level of an area. 
  • Drydock
    • Added rock formations.
    • Reworked central mountain.
FIXES
  • Fixed an issue where the Flag would sometimes not be able to be returned if it got stuck in terrain. 
  • Fixed an issue where the player may be locked out of their abilities after scoring the flag. 
  • Fixed an issue where players would only ever respawn on one side of the map. 
  • Fixed an issue where energy would not be full on respawn.
  • Fixed an issue where a team could score twice if the flag was picked up on a flag stand.
  • Fixed an issue where ski impulse would not apply in the direction a player was looking. 
  • Fixed an issue where players were not getting the ski impulse if they attempted to ski within 1s of spawning.
  • Fixed an issue where players would lose speed from their jetpack.
  • Fixed an issue where the pickup camera effect was not playing.
  • Fixed an issue where the repair tool had no 3p VFX.
  • Fixed an issue where weapons with a prefire time (i.e. shocklance) would play firing SFX/VFX twice in 3p.
  • Fixed an issue where muting and unmuting party members in the Lobby was not working.

Known Issues
  • We are aware of crashes that have affected players. We have pushed fixes in order to address some of these and are currently working on cleaning up others.  
  • Radar may not always show enemy players properly.
  • Custom mutators may not apply properly.
  • Custom Matches that have ended may get recycled into the match again before being kicked to lobby.
  • Reconnecting may have the waiting for players UI and loading UI stuck on.

Tribes 3 is holding its first-ever tournament later this month, and everyone is invited

As some of you may know, last month marked the 25th anniversary for the TRIBES franchise! This is a huge milestone and we wanted to work with the community to put together something special!
