Growth System Guide

■ Ability System
The Ability System is a dedicated growth system which includes 'Shared Abilities' that apply account-wide and 'Exclusive Abilities' that enhance the unique skills of each character.
Abilities are unlocked through a skill tree and progress sequentially along the chosen path.
※ Abilities cannot be reset. Once unlocked, their effects are permanent.

1) Ability Types
- Shared Abilities: Applied to all characters.
e.g., Increased Flask capacity, stat boosts, etc.
- Exclusive Abilities: Enhance specific skills for individual characters.
e.g., Unlocking character exclusive skills.

2) Types of Resources
Resource
Purpose
Ability Points
Used to unlock all abilities
Still Crystal of Eternity
Required for key Shared Abilities
Frozen Orb of Origins
Used to unlock the ultimate ability of Shared Abilities
Burning Crystal of Eternity
Required for key Exclusive Abilities
Tempestuous Orb of Origins
Used to unlock the ultimate ability of Exclusive Abilities
※ Aside from Ability Points, the other materials are separated into Shared and Exclusive ability upgrade resources.

■ Account Level System
The Account Level system applies growth universally across all characters.
Level progression is tied to the account instead of individual characters, and is earned through story progression and combat.
Upon leveling up, stat bonuses are granted and shared across all characters in your account.
Since the system is account-based, switching characters will still maintain the bonuses from your current level.

■ Craft & Enhance Weapon System
Through the Craft & Enhance Weapon system, you can craft unique, character exclusive weapon appearances.
Crafted weapons can be enhanced to increase their Weapon Level, which boosts character stats accordingly.
The crafting and enhancement process consists of the following steps:

1) Unlocking Crafting
You can acquire blueprint designs by defeating boss monsters or completing Special Missions.
Once obtained, you’ll be able to craft the corresponding weapon appearance.
※ Crafting unlocks apply account-wide, and once obtained, all characters will have access to the blueprint.

2) Weapon Crafting
Unlocked weapons can be crafted exclusively for each character, once you meet the material and cost requirements.
Crafting may also grant a Secondary Weapon alongside the Main Weapon.
※ Crafted weapons can be viewed and changed in the Appearance tab of the Fitting Room.

3) Weapon Enhancement
Each enhancement raises the Weapon Level.
"Enhancing weapons increases their Weapon Level, enhancing character stats such as Attack, Critical Chance, and Precision. "
Enhancement consumes materials and Hanner, and each weapon has a set enhancement limit.
※ The Craft & Enhance Weapon system is subject to change upon launch, and players will be notified accordingly.

■ Kalbram Supplies
Earn the trust of the Kalbram Mercenaries by completing missions and claim a variety of rewards.
You can increase your Supply Level by completing objectives throughout each region.

1) Rewards
When a certain amount of "Kalbram Supplies Credits” is accumulated through mission completion, your Supply Level increases, and you’ll earn the rewards associated with each level.
Rewards range from essential resources like Hanner, to items required for Abilities and Weapon Crafting, as well as exclusive outfits that are only available through Kalbram Supplies.

2) Missions
Missions are categorized into Daily Missions and Challenge Missions.
Daily Missions: Defeat designated monsters each day.
※ Reset time: 00:00 UTC / 09:00 KST
Challenge Missions: Available once per Kalbram Supplies event period and include objectives beyond combat.

■ Item Chests
Item chests are scattered throughout the combat zones.
When players approach a chest, an interaction button will appear. You can obtain rewards by interacting with them.
Besides small and large chests, you can also find other lootable items, like glowing drops scattered on the ground.

*All system names are temporary and subject to change.

Item & Inventory Guide

■ Item Types 1) Cosmetic Items
Cosmetic items are used solely to customize your character’s appearance and do not affect character stats.
They are categorized into Weapons, Outfits, and Beauty (Hair, Makeup, etc).
Weapon appearances can be obtained through the weapon crafting system. This process increases the Weapon Crafting Level, which affects character stats.
Cosmetic items can be shared across all characters of the same gender.

2) Flovian Flask
The Flovian Flask is a default recovery item provided to all players.
It can be used during combat and is automatically refilled when resting at a campsite.
Its performance can be enhanced through certain Abilities.

3) Consumable Recovery Items
These items provide immediate effects upon use and can be used during combat.
While similar in function to the Flovian Flask, they are limited to the quantity held in your inventory.
Consumables can be obtained from monster drops or found in chests within combat zones.

■ Inventory, Storage, and Quickslots

1) Inventory UI
The inventory allows you to manage the items you have acquired.
- View item details
- Discard items
- Assign or remove items to/from the quickslot
※ Note: During the Alpha Test, items cannot be used directly from the inventory. They must be registered in the quickslot for use.

2) Storage UI
Some combat items have a maximum carry limit for inventory and quickslots. When the limit is exceeded, excess items are automatically stored.
If you rest at a campsite, any eligible items in storage will be automatically restocked into your inventory and quickslots.

3) Quickslot
The quickslot allows players to use items quickly during combat.
- From the inventory, press [Keyboard & Mouse: R / Controller: X] to assign items to a quickslot.
- Registered items are consumed one at a time when used.
- If an item's count reaches zero, the slot becomes inactive.
- Items can be replenished by resting at a campsite or looting during combat.

*All system names are temporary and subject to change.

JUNE DEV LOG

Greetings, Players.
This is our June Dev Log, shared ahead of the upcoming Alpha Test.

As the Alpha Test draws near, our team is putting the final touches on the build.
Today, we’d like to walk you through some of the features you’ll be able to experience during the Alpha Test.

1. Fitting Room: Customize Your Character

In this Alpha Test, you’ll be able to enter the ‘Fitting Room’ to personalize your character’s appearance in a variety of ways.
Choose your preferred Physique and combine items from the Style Shop such as Outfits, Hair, Iris, Scars, and Moles to create a look that reflects your unique personality. And of course, Outfits can be dyed using Dye Ampoules.

To help you enjoy the fun of customization, this Alpha Test includes a variety of elements such as outfits and hair. You can easily pick up all of these items as you play. So after a battle, take a moment to drop by the Fitting Room and customize your character to your liking.

2. Story: Member of the Kalbram Mercenaries

In the Alpha Test, you’ll uncover a series of events taking place in and around Colhen Village, the base of the ‘Kalbram Mercenaries’. As a member of the Kalbram Mercenaries, you’ll investigate the ‘Northern Ruins’, which are now occupied by ‘Gnolls’, under the command of ‘Gwynn’ from the Royal Knights. You'll also be deployed to ‘Hoarfrost Hollow’ on a separate mission, where you'll face an inevitable showdown.

Although the Alpha Test does not reveal a large portion of the story, we encourage you to listen closely to the voices of the Kalbram Mercenaries who guard the village and the people of Colhen. It will help you enjoy the test on a deeper level.

Subtitles will be available in Korean, English, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Key story cutscenes will also be voiced in Korean and English, with language options adjustable in the settings menu. We plan to support more languages in the official release.

3. 4-Player Multiplayer: Face Even Stronger Boss Monsters

We’ve prepared multiplayer content where up to four players can take on powerful boss monsters together. Two formidable bosses await, promising intense and exhilarating battles. Multiplayer content becomes available after completing the main story. As for the bosses, we encourage you to discover them for yourself when the test begins. (Though some of you may have already spotted them in previously released footage!)

Please note that during this test, multiplayer parties will be formed through auto-matchmaking only, and selecting party members manually will not be available. We appreciate your understanding. If you prefer to fight alone, you can also take on the boss monster solo.

That’s all for the June Dev Log. Be sure to check out our Steam, X, Discord, and our official website for more guides and announcements as the test approaches.

We look forward to seeing you in the Alpha Test.

Sincerely,
Vindictus: Defying Fate Dev Team

A Letter from the Development Team

Greetings from the Vindictus: Defying Fate development team.

🛠 Ahead of the Test
To begin with, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has shown interest in the Alpha Test.

The Pre-Alpha Test conducted in March 2024 primarily focused on verifying the enjoyment and design direction of the combat system.
We initially expected participation from a relatively small group of players experienced with hardcore action games and therefore set the difficulty level relatively high.
However, far more players joined the test than we had anticipated, and we recognize that some players, especially those less familiar with action games, found the difficulty level to be too challenging.
We’d like to apologize for any frustration this may have caused and deeply appreciate everyone who shared their valuable feedback.

The Alpha Test for Vindictus: Defying Fate is scheduled to take place during the upcoming June Steam Next Fest, and we warmly invite you to join us.

Ahead of the test, we’d like to share a few important details with you.

🎮 Difficulty Adjustment
After about 15 months of development, the difficulty of this Alpha Test has been adjusted to reflect the level originally intended by the development team.
Vindictus: Defying Fate is designed to be an action game that is approachable for everyone, while rewarding skill with faster clears and more stylish gameplay.
The two available difficulty levels—Easy and Normal—can be switched at any time, allowing players to adjust the experience to their preference.
We hope this change makes the game more enjoyable and accessible to a broader range of players.

🧭 Newly Added Content
New story elements and combat areas have been added for this Alpha Test.
  • In the first area, Northern Ruins, players will experience story progression along with relevant battles.
  • Following that, players can move on to Hoarfrost Hollow, which focuses more on combat-oriented gameplay.
Both areas have undergone major changes since the Pre-Alpha Test. We’ve added elements such as interactive objects and traps, as requested by many of you.
Additionally, a new Follower System has been added, allowing players to fight alongside Followers or switch to other characters after a certain point in the game.

While the core gameplay experience is based on single-player, once the Northern Ruins storyline is completed, players will be able to encounter others in town.

🧍 New Playable Characters
In the Pre-Alpha Test, only Lann and Fiona were available. In this Alpha Test, Delia and Karok have been added, making a total of four playable characters.
Each character has unique abilities and playstyles, so we encourage you to try them all.

⚔️ New Battle Mode: Special Missions
In this Alpha Test, a new battle mode called ‘Special Missions’ becomes available once you've completed the Northern Ruins storyline.
  • You can participate in this content through either single-player or multiplayer, depending on your preference.
  • Unlike the content mentioned earlier, this mode is designed to deliver a challenging combat experience.
  • As content separate from the main story, it offers a great opportunity to players who enjoy high-difficulty battles to test their skills and find enjoyment in overcoming tough encounters.
During the Alpha Test, multiplayer parties for Special Missions will only be formed through auto-matchmaking. Manual party selection will not be available. We kindly ask for your understanding.

🔧 About the Nature of the Alpha Test
As this is an Alpha Test, many aspects of the game are still under development. Please keep the following notes in mind during your test experience.
  • The Kalbram Supplies system, which you’ll soon experience, was added to supplement areas of the game that are currently incomplete for this test. Its inclusion in the final version has not yet been decided.
  • The Outfit and customization features have received extra development focus for this test. However, the related items, systems, and acquisition methods are temporarily configured and are likely to change significantly in the final release. With the addition of body shape customization, some physics effects (such as body proportions or clothing material behavior) are still under development. You may find that some elements to feel incomplete or unnatural at this stage.
  • The Equipment system has not yet been implemented. Character progression during this test has been temporarily structured without it.
  • The Weapon Crafting & Enhancement system is also still in development and may feel somewhat unintuitive in its current state.

    • Weapons themselves do not have inherent stats, but once crafted, their appearance can be freely used. The intended design is for character stats to increase by collecting a variety of weapons.
    • However, the current setup may give the impression that each weapon has its own stats and needs to be upgraded individually—this is not the intended design.
    • In fact, weapons do not have individual stats. Any stat bonuses gained from enhancing weapons are permanently applied to the character.
    • After this Alpha Test, we plan to refine the system to make it clearer and more intuitive.
🤝 In Closing
We sincerely thank everyone who has shown interest in and patiently awaited this Alpha Test.
The feedback you share is incredibly valuable to us. It helps shape the future of the game and drives meaningful improvements.

We sincerely hope this Alpha Test proves to be both enjoyable and meaningful, and we look forward to having you with us on the journey of Vindictus: Defying Fate.

Sincerely,
The Vindictus: Defying Fate Development Team
