Spring into Action in BeamNG.drive v0.35

Greetings, drivers, and welcome to our first update of 2025!

Version 0.35 shifts into high gear and delivers a long-awaited vehicle remaster, several revamped user interface components, brand-new missions, expanded modding tools lineup, and countless other optimizations, fixes, and quality-of-life improvements.
REMASTERED VEHICLE: Hirochi Sunburst
First up on the vehicle side, we’ve fully remastered the Hirochi Sunburst!

The community has been requesting this one for a while, and we couldn’t be happier to unveil it at last. The makeover comes with a bunch of features, including a Flat-4 drivetrain, a wide variety of both factory and custom configurations, and, finally, that wagon body everyone's been craving for.

The vehicle model has now been revised with increased detail and all-new textures. And to top that off, the lineup also offers a good deal of new customization options, including body kits, interiors, as well as striking new liveries.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Beyond the Sunburst's remaster, we’ve also added new parts, configs, and liveries for a number of other vehicles!

The majority of our vehicles also got slight revisions on suspension, as well as fixes and upgrades to materials, textures, and handling.
3D Mesh Loading Optimizations
In this update, we’ve substantially improved vehicle loading speed by transitioning to a new, optimized .cdae file format. Leveraging cached data and compression to streamline the process, it drastically reduces vehicle loading times while also curbing performance hiccups when swapping parts. Please keep in mind that, as always, this is still ongoing work.
Level Upgrades
As part of the ongoing improvements for West Coast map, we're rolling out another set of updated areas. These include the drag strip and the dirt track area, and a brand new drift track. To complement these changes, a round of optimizations was done to collisions in the city area and the overall drivability around race tracks.

But improvements don't stop there, Hirochi Raceway has gotten a new drag strip area and foliage libraries were updated across several maps.
Gameplay
The Freeroam Drift Zones catalog was expanded with new additions that will put your drifting skills to the test – four in Italy, two in Utah, and one in Automation. We’ve also added a Freeroam Drag Mode to Hirochi Raceway.

Drift enthusiasts can now gain better insights into their performance from the newly implemented Drift Statistics, which can be found inside the Drift Challenge end screen. Additionally, two new Drift UI apps were added - one to show the total score, and another to show information about the current drift.

The scoring system has been revamped, and now features Tiers. The more points accumulated - the higher the Tier. A couple of multipliers received a balancing pass and we’ve improved the crash detection logic. Combos now have a soft cap at 10x and a hard cap at 25x.

Two new missions—Strut Brace Loop and Garage Gauntlet—round out the list of gameplay improvements.
User Interface
Meanwhile, the UI team has been hard at work to bring you a new Radial Menu! The new menu was built from the ground up, and will be replacing the legacy one. Tailored for seamless user experience, it comes equipped with full gamepad support and refined layouts.

Feel free to share your feedback in the dedicated forum thread, we'd love to hear your thoughts!
Vehicle Systems
As part of the development process for the new rally vehicle variants, we are introducing two long-awaited vehicle systems in v0.35.

Anti-lag system (ALS): in turbocharged applications, lifting the throttle pedal will lead to a loss of turbo pressure, and the engine will take longer to respond to later throttle inputs. To prevent this increase in response time under competitive conditions, turbocharged rally cars often feature an ALS. Our air bypass anti-lag system attempts to maintain a defined target turbocharger RPM utilizing delayed combustion events taking place in exhaust manifold combined with an intake bypass valve to further increase the efficiency and control of the system. Our current ALS simulates an automatic arm/disarm logic - it'll kick in when needed, and it will also disarm automatically when it detects that you're no longer pushing hard.

Active center differential: in all-wheel drive vehicles (such as those in our newly introduced top rally category NGRC1) a traditional, passive, center differential can leave a lot of time on the table. In comparison, an active center differential can raise the performance ceiling, while also improving drivability at the limit. This new system takes into account multiple sensors and parameters from the vehicle, and with the help of internal maps, will instantly and continuously tune the behavior of the differential. This allows the differential to adapt to the driver's requests and to the current car attitude. For example, the rear axle can now automatically disengage when pulling the handbrake, progressively lock the differential to extract grip when necessary, and so on.
Modding & Tools
And last, but certainly not least, we got several exciting changes for the modders among you!

Please welcome our new experimental Building Architect Tool. This procedural tool will be able to generate and modify buildings directly in the World Editor. Head over to this documentation article to learn more.

Further updates include several new features for the Biome Tool, a new Roof Crasher Tester prop, changes to the JBeam workflows, and much more.

Important update regarding support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Ubuntu 20.04

Dear BeamNG.drive community,

We're committed to continuously improving BeamNG.drive and bringing you the best experience possible. As part of this commitment, we'll soon need to end support for some older operating systems. With BeamNG.drive version 0.35 arriving soon, support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 will be discontinued. This change affects less than 0.06% of our community.

Additionally, with the upcoming BeamNG.drive version 0.36 later this year, we will also discontinue support for Ubuntu 20.04.

What does this mean for you?

If you're already using Windows 10/11 or Ubuntu 22.04 or newer: there’s no action needed. Your experience will continue seamlessly.

If you're on an older operating system: BeamNG.drive may no longer function properly, and we strongly encourage you to upgrade your operating system as soon as possible.

Why is this necessary?

This change is driven by industry-wide decisions and software requirements beyond our control. Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 between 2020 and 2023. Steam similarly ended their support for these versions in January 2024.

Internally, our software relies on a library created by Google, which has also discontinued support for older Windows versions. Similarly, Canonical's end-of-life for Ubuntu 20.04 in May 2025 means we will follow suit shortly afterward.

We hope you understand that taking these steps is necessary for the future of our sim.

If upgrading to Windows 10 or newer isn't an option for you:
You could continue using an older version of BeamNG.drive. However, please note that you'll miss future updates and content, and Customer Support won't be available for outdated versions.

Select 0.34.2_win7_no_updates in the Betas section (alternatively, if eligible, consider requesting a refund from Steam).

Vintage Ventures in BeamNG.drive v0.34

Season's greetings, drivers, and welcome to the highlights blog for our 0.34 update! This release introduces a highly anticipated new vehicle, expands the selection of vehicle parts, delivers a set of fresh gameplay challenges, as well as numerous fixes and improvements. So follow along while we chaperon you through all the details.
NEW VEHICLE: Bruckell Nine
Headlining this season's lineup is the Bruckell Nine, a highly anticipated pre-war vehicle. Carefully crafted to reflect the era's iconic design and historical authenticity, it's a perfect fusion of vintage sophistication and practical functionality.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

The Bruckell Nine is one of our most versatile and refined vehicles to date. With nine different body styles – two coupe options, a sedan, a roadster, two van variants, two pickup styles, and a driver seat on a bodyless frame, it offers extensive customization possibilities.

The vehicle debuts with a heap of customization options that cater to both period-appropriate and modern applications. These include a hot rod and restomod parts, glass tint, and mechanical components. While factory variants retain the unique characteristic quirks and "janky" handling of a 1930s vehicle, modernized configurations bring smoother handling with advanced suspension and wheel upgrades, ideal for racing enthusiasts or those looking to test speed limits.

With this release we're also expanding the lighting system to simulate the gradual illumination of vintage halogen bulbs. This improvement introduces smooth transitions when turning headlights on and off, rather than toggling them instantly. For now, this feature is exclusive to the Nine, complete with a slight dimming effect during engine startup.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
New Parts, Tweaks, and Fixes
But the holiday fun doesn't stop there! The Gavril Grand Marshall is getting a new widebody kit called the Slider, paired with a distinctive livery not likely to be seen on a big American sedan, it's tuned to take corners in style. The Drag configuration also benefits from several new aftermarket parts, sound tuning, and fixes for known issues.

For our law enforcement enthusiasts, we've upgraded police configurations across the board! We've expanded options to include police, undercover, emergency beacon lights, light bars, and flashers on vehicles that lacked them. Older police models now include antennas and halogen flashers, and some have gained new interior controls for beacon lights and light bars. The modern light bar now features selectable flash patterns, glass colors and accessories, as well as better optimization.

We didn't stop there - fixes, tweaks, and updates were applied to a variety of vehicles, including Burnside Special, Civetta Scintilla, ETK 800-Series, ETK-I Series, Gavril MD-Series, Roamer, and T-Series, the Ibishu BX-Series, and the Soliad Wendover, among others. Dive into the release notes for the full details!
West Coast, USA Improvements
On the environment side, several areas on West Coast, USA received another round of polish.

The Belasco Motorsports Park has been updated with a revamped parking lot and surroundings, along with a brand-new gravel off-road course adjacent to the track. Additional off-road sections have been introduced near the start of the mainland bridge, along with further optimizations on off-road areas throughout the map.

Bus shelters have been redesigned to better align with the aesthetics of the maps on Italy, West Coast, East Coast, Utah, and Jungle Rock Island. These shelters also feature updated bus route map textures.

Other improvements include memory optimizations and various updates to roads, forest, terrain, decalroads, AI decalroads and collision meshes, and more.
Gameplay
Drift enthusiasts, there's a new way to challenge your skills! No need to commit to a full Drift Challenge - we've added seven Freeroam Drift Zones in West Coast, USA!

As you explore the map, keep an eye out for blue road signs signifying drift zones. Start drifting near a sign to activate the system, which tracks your high scores and sets goals for you to beat. Then, drift all the way to the next sign and rack up points to complete the challenge!

We've also revamped the drift scoring system - instead of being time-based, it's now distance-based, so slower drifts will no longer provide better rewards than faster drifts over the same distance.

For drag racing, we've introduced a new precision-based challenge: Dial Racing. Set your target time before the race starts and aim to get closer to it than your opponent without overshooting. On top of that, we've improved automatic opponent selection and added a history feature which allows you to review past results.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Three new challenges join the missions lineup: Bootleg Runner on Utah, Hotrod Club on East Coast, USA, and Vintage Hauler on Small Island.

Alongside these additions, we've implemented a number of fixes and quality-of-life improvements across the gameplay systems. Most major challenges now have an updated UI with new start, end, and detail screens. The "Move to Start" feature replaces countdowns across many missions, and time-of-day settings can now be customized for select missions.
New in World Editor: Biome Tool
For the map makers among you, we're excited to unveil the new Biome Tool, designed to streamline your workflow. By utilizing mask controls and adjustable parameters, it allows you to populate the map with diverse foliage elements effortlessly. Using the Biome Tool, you can do in minutes what used to take days!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

We've also improved the Resource Checker's UI, and added the ability to see how materials are used within the map. And last, but certainly not least, we've added a work in progress edit mode for the Traffic Manager, which will allow you to easily place and control traffic vehicles, props, and signals, complete with save-and-load functionality for your traffic layouts.

Naturally, there's so much more packed into this release than we've covered so far. Other changes include improvements for AI and traffic, reworked electrics handling, new and tweaked sounds, progress on our experimental Linux support, updates for the JBeam debugging and visualization tools, and fixes for a wide range of bugs and crashes.

To see the complete list of changes, check out the patch notes here!
