Patch #14: The Destroyer Update

[p]Greetings Commander,[/p][p][/p][p]The latest update has been released: Release v1.2.3a - Destroyer
[/p][p]The Destroyer is a fully robotic combat commander built for pure violence: multi-target attacks, explosive kills, and a brutal combat loadout featuring 2 weapon slots and 1 armor slot. Being fully robotic, it’s immune to suffocation and resists poison damage.[/p][p]
[/p]
Techno-Crypts Full Release
[p]Techno-Crypts are now out of beta. For players who missed the last patch beta, Techno-Crypts introduced Ruins, a new type of Planetary Assault. After a period of beta testing, this new Planetary Assault type is now available in the main branch of Void War for all players.

As a reminder, Beta access for Void War is always free and public, so if you didn’t jump in this time, you can join future betas anytime by switching to the Beta branch in your Steam settings for Void War. FTL-like Void War was DMCAed by Games Workshop due to 'oversized convex shoulder pads with a metallic rim'

Void War is an FTL-like, a space strategy sim of the roguelike variety, but it's hard to get a whole sentence into any description of it without pointing out that, boy howdy, it sure does look like Warhammer 40,000. Which Games Workshop apparently noticed, because developer Tundra Interactive received a DMCA notice once Void War was published on Steam...

Patch #13: The Techno-Crypts Beta

[p]Greetings Commander,
[/p][p]The latest update has been released: Beta v1.2.2 - The Techno-Crypts Beta
[/p][p]This update introduces a new type of planetary assault: Ruins. Ruins encounters can appear in any Exclusion Zone sector, letting you deploy your crew to plunder Ruined Fortifications and Infested Techno-Crypts.[/p][p]
Unlike the manned Imperial fortifications introduced in the Holiday Update (December), Ruins are sparsely occupied and far less heavily defended. But they aren’t safe. Exclusion Zones bring their own hazards: demonic infestations, breaches, and subspace storms. Rumors suggest that some Ruins conceal far greater threats.[/p][p][/p]
How to Access the Beta
[p]To access the latest beta, right-click Void War in your Steam library, click Properties > Game Versions & Betas. Then select beta - public beta for steam players and you're all set.
[/p][p][/p][p]Note that beta versions of the game represent works-in-progress. That means: expect bugs, UI issues, and other rough edges. We use the beta branch to gather feedback and improve the experience before the main release.[/p][p][/p][p]We highly recommend backing up your profile.sav file before enabling the beta. You can find it here: [/p][p]C:\\Users\\\[your username]\\AppData\\Roaming\\Void_War[/p][p][/p][p]As always, if you have suggestions, bug reports, or any other feedback, please don't hesitate to chime in on our Discord: https://discord.gg/4rV32dzxKr[/p][p][/p][p]

Warhammer 40k flavored indie game Void War has a big update "ready to ship" after mystery DMCA takedown

Void War, an indie roguelike videogame with top-down ship battles similar to FTL and grimdark aesthetics close to Warhammer 40,000, has been removed from Steam as a result of a DMCA takedown request, according to its creator. "We were right about to release the next content update when the DMCA notice hit", designer Morph tells Wargamer, adding "Frankly we are just annoyed that we have to delay the update, potentially by several weeks or however long it takes for the standard DMCA counter notice process to resolve".

Patch #12: The Holiday Update

[p][/p][p]Greetings Commander,[/p][p][/p][p]The latest update has been released: Release v1.2.1a - The Holiday Update[/p][p]This update comes with the full release of Planetary Assaults, a set of new quest encounters, and a huge number of balance tweaks. This will be the only update for December, barring all necessary hotfixes. We will be resuming our usual release cadence roughly mid-January.[/p][p][/p]
New Quests
[p]Over the past few months, we’ve been quietly building new encounters with our new writer, Aleksi Nevalainen. He’s been expanding the Void War universe behind the scenes, and the first set of new encounters is ready for release.[/p][p]The quest system is a part of the game that has been extremely underutilized and this patch marks the first steps in our efforts to address that. We think quest encounters and multi-part encounters are a lot of fun, so expect to see more in the coming months. Consider the seven new quest encounters added in today's update (one for each faction's special sector) a preview of what's to come. [/p][p][/p]
Major Balance Pass
[p]In addition to the new encounters, we took some time this month to do a major balance pass across the game. New content can shift the meta, so we will occasionally make targeted tweaks to keep a wide range of builds and strategies feeling strong. This update adjusts stats and costs across the board, from commanders to wargear to ship weapons. The Assassin has also gained a new ability, Expunge, which helps her and her crew deal more effectively with certain enemy units that have been especially troublesome for her.[/p][p][/p]
Planetary Assaults
[p]Planetary Assaults are now ready for release and have now been integrated into the main branch. There were a ton of bugs in the beta release, some worse than others. We believe we have fixed all of them. If there are more, please don't hesitate to post a bug report in the Discord (https://discord.gg/4rV32dzxKr). Huge thanks to everyone who participated in the Planetary Assaults beta![/p][p][/p]
Retrospectus
[p]What a year. It feels like yesterday Void War was still in alpha and we were still planning out the release. Now we’re already more than half a year past our official Steam launch. As 2025 wraps up, it’s time to look back on what we’ve accomplished. [/p][p]In these last 6 months, we have seen the addition of 4 ships, 4 commanders, 38 achievements, planetary assaults, a marauding enemy faction, a clean font option, as well as a host of bug fixes and balance tweaks. In terms of the roadmap, we've hit about 60% of our targets. A big portion of this is due to the detours we've taken along the way. While we've delivered new ships and planetary assaults, items like new commanders and clean font options have been inspirational tangents. Meanwhile things like localization, dungeons, and the remaining hulls have taken longer than we anticipated and while we have been making steady progress on those things, they are inevitably being pushed to 2026. It has been fun to indulge in this meandering exploration of the Void War universe, and we hope that fun gets passed on to all of you. [/p][p]With that said, our goals haven't changed. We will continue to move towards delivering all the items on the roadmap for 2026. Check out the updated roadmap below for a preview of what's to come. [/p][p]Most importantly, while we’re proud of the work we’ve done, we’re even more proud of the community you’ve built around Void War. Time and time again, you’ve blown us away with your trust, support, and dedication. We’re closing out the year grateful for all of it, and we hope you’ll keep flying with us in 2026 and beyond.
[/p][p]We wish you a healthy, peaceful holiday season, and a happy new year.[/p]
