Major update for MKB users on the DEMO

[h2]Hi Everyone, a MKB update![/h2]


So what happens in the days/weeks leading up to a release even a demo, is a form of tunnelvision. You get stuck in to make the game happen and meet that deadline.

In this case my tunnelvision and personal preferences made me miss a major issue with the MKB contols.
The left and right mouse button were reversed. I've not had a lot of sleep these days and I missed some of your cues and comments on this. Until someone clearly came out and said it.

So sorry..

But here's what I changed Today in the hopes that it improves the MKB experience .
  • MLB and MRB switched
  • No auto switching to ground after building
  • An updated visual to indicate what tower will be selected with the cursor on the ground
  • No selection when pressing select on a tower
  • A harbour always makes its first wall automatically to connect it
  • Space AND MMB switch between air and ground (space being the bound key now)


I've also added a bit more tutorial text on the following topics
  • why ground building exist (basically ground is the mode where you build your settlement , only resources and harbors are built from the surveyor)
  • that you cannot build from a tower if its not connected or nearby a source of wood or (you can build too a connected tower or source tho)
  • resources are unlimited!!!!! there is no storage and only the distance (in towers and walkways) is limited.


I hope these changes alleviate some of the frustration, and await all feedbacks ;)

Bulwark on Base Builder Fest

We can reveal that Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles demo will be available to play as part of the STEAM Base Builder Fest. This will be the world-exclusive first demo of Bulwark on a public platform.

Steam Base Builder Fest runs from January 23 at 10:00 AM PST (UTC-8) to January 30 at 10:00 AM PST (UTC-8).

"Equally scary and exhilarating, but #Bulwark needs to be shared, so I can learn and evolve it. So for the first time ever a demo!" Tomas commented.
"A demo as free and limitless as I can provide, you play and build with all I made so far, no limits!
The game is by no means finished, but the building aspects are as polished as I can deliver them and the demo comes with a voiced tutorial which I hope explains the game's unconventional freeform building.

The concept of 'Open World Building' is also functional in the demo, you can fly around over the entire Ursee, set up colonies and go wild.

What is not there are the deeper strategic and diplomatic layers (making friends and enemies on the Ursee), I am still developing those.

This is a pre-alpha demo, which is basically just saying many mechanics and content is not there yet.
But what is already there I hope warrants joining the Discord."

The Builderfest demo is live!

[h3]Hi everyone,[/h3]

As you can see the demo is now available. this is an unlimited version of the pre-alpha version. You can play thru the tutorial and beyond as random encounters are spawned after the tutorial. You can fly anywhere in the open world,. tho the area beyond the tutorial zone isn't filled up with content yet. You can still try to establish colonies in all the cool places of the Ursee.

The demo also has a freebuild mode, which is a mode in which there are no constraints and you can build regardless of resources, a sort of experimental freeform mode. It has little guidance and the tutorial is a good place to start, but if you feel that itch to explore and experiment without guidance, freebuild is the mode for you!


[h3]Updates[/h3]
I actually put the demo online Sunday and have been working on an update based on the first feedback. That updated version is now available(monday).

Most notably it improves control settings for mouse with separate axis for edge turning and inversion. It also explains better that the Surveyor isn't a direct control vehicle, it will fly towards your cursor location when you command it to. But you do not steer it directly. I added a little beacon to make this more intuitive.

good examples of feedback being digested and turned into an update ;) Which is exactly the point of this demo.

As you might know or not, this is a mostly solo developed game, so for me this is going to be an overwhelming week, but I am trying to respond to everyone personally. If you have an issue or feedback please provide as much information as possible, especially for a tech support question , if you have feedback please be civil and try to write it in a constructive manner. This literally helps me get thru items faster.

A Demo is coming

A demo!

In the new year I want as many gamers to try out Bulwark, so I've decided to start with Base Builder Fest.
A free demo will be available during the entire fest. (and probably a bit ahead).

Officially I am declaring this a pre-alpha demo as development is still ongoing. But I've taken time to prepare a voiced tutorial and as much guidance as i can, and I hope players will find a polished experience.

Unlimited

The content in the demo is unlimited , there are no timers or limitations to what you can build, though only 1 starting scenario is unlocked. You can still fly around the wider Ursee, though it isn't fully developed out yet, but you can build traderoutes and start a colonoy wherever you want. There are some pretty epic spots on the Ursee.

Tutorial

But it's best to start with the tutorial, which will explain the building system and mechanics such as traderoutes, after the tutorial you can keep building and random encounters will be spawned and captains will sail up to your harbours to offer their services.

Freebuild

Freebuild mode is also available in the demo, here there are no story elements, no resources , just unlimited building anywhere you want.

[Friends and Enemies]

The demo contains just about all the content I've developed so far for Bulwark, but with quite a bit of development to go it is still pre-alpha and content incomplete.. The main feature that will be added is the ability to make friends and enemies across the Ursee, this more strategical layer isn't available in the demo as it is under development.

Merry Holidays from the Ursee!

The last development update for this year likely. I'll keep it small because well it's Christmas and my birthday is on boxing day (turning 46, sigh) and the week after Christmas me and the family are taking a small holiday ;)

So down to business, with the addition of the event system I've been able to add new ways to unlock new buildings such
Including gaining new outposts that can grow into citadels. Which in turn has pushed me to increase the variety of citadels that can spawn.
Which in turn is leading some quit spectacular new vistas

Here's a video of some of that in action, it's not really focused, just me fooling around with the settlement. But should prove insightful and also shows some of the advances to the portraits, AO and other reasonably subtle FX work:

Someone managed to get it to work on Proton, and run it smoothly as well on a Deck!.


Here a user has gone stratospheric over a couple of days and stacked towers and foundations into an extreme creation that hit over 50 million triangles in view! GPU melting stuff! Well worth a zoom!
