2025 Demo Update (0.6.0)

We're in the final stretch before Early Access!
It's releasing this fall. Pinky promise.
[p]ignore the fact that cranky has no fingers.[/p][p]For those of you who've stuck around, just wait a bit longer! For those new to Beatblock, you're in for one heck of a time. Let's get into what's new. (Or just skip to the changelog at the bottom for the short version.)[/p][p][/p]
A new level about side notes.
[p]Love them or hate them, they're the Most Note Of All Time. And they have a very storied history.[/p][p]Ranked #1 Note in Beatblocker's Magazine two years running, with an origin that dates back to the late 19th century. Learn more and get a grip on sides in the new level público cautivo.[/p][p][/p][p]Comes with a guided audio tour of the Side Note Exhibit.[/p][p][/p][p]Importantly, this new level will be replacing the level Code Remix. [/p][p]Don't worry- It'll still be playable in Early Access! But to keep the intended demo flow intact, we opted to swap out Code Remix for público cautivo. We hope you have fun with the new level![/p][p][/p]
A revamped tutorial.
[p]Let's be fair: the original tutorial was kind of a Hot Mess. Who likes having every single note type thrown at you (except for the secret one) at once?? We fixed that. There's a new tutorial instead to acquaint you with the basics- and only the basics. Blocks, holds, and taps.[/p][p][/p][p]We also added helpful images before other relevant levels to explain individual mechanics![/p][p]Please be kind to Cranky. There are many note types and some of them hurt.[/p][p][/p]
tha changer logge

Version 0.6.0
• [p]Swapped out Code Remix for a new level, público cautivo![/p]
    • [p]This was done to improve the flow of teaching the side note mechanic to new players. Code Remix will still be available to play in the full game.[/p]
  • [p]Reworked Tutorial to only include Blocks, Holds, and Taps.[/p]
  • [p]Added explanatory images to levels that introduce new mechanics (Gritted Strings, público cautivo, ILOVEYOU.vbs)[/p]
  • [p]Improved High DPI display on Windows devices.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed error message when trying to load an early access level in the demo.[/p]
  • [p]Added a failsafe to saving that should help with crashes relating to low storage space.[/p]
[p][/p]
See you again when Early Access launches this fall! ( ^^ )=)
Summer 2025 Development Update
Hello! ( ^^ )=)
[p]It's been a while. We hope you've been having fun![/p][p][/p][p]Our developers have been hard at work fleshing out the game.
Here's a little preview of what we've been up to. [/p][p][/p]
Woe. GIFs upon ye
[p]costumes![/p]
[p]UI tweaks![/p][p][/p]
[p]rich text functions![/p][p][/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][p]this guy killing it on the piano![/p]
[p][/p]
Community Events
[p]Besides devwork, we've been hosting some intermittent charting jams on our Discord server with featured artists! Welcome to BUILDING BLOCKS.[/p][p]The artists give you clips. You chart 'em. At the end of it all- share and swap your charts, and get a shiny role icon in the server for participating! If it sounds like your cup of tea, feel free to join in.[/p][p][/p][p]Additionally, keep an eye out once Early Access launches for GET PRANKED: a cooperative high-score event where players band together to reach a shared goal. You may have seen the first round occur on our Twitter page with Camellia's +ERABY+E CONNEC+10N, and you can bet there'll be more in the future! This event will pull out some of our most challenging songs to grind for P-ranks, so keep those spinning skills sharp![/p][p][/p]
"okay but when you droppin"
[p]Fortunately, we have an answer! Expect Early Access to drop this fall![/p][p]We're looking forward to finally sharing what we've worked on- with that said, here's what you can expect.[/p]
  • [p]A completely new song unlock system, separate from the demo's songwheel.[/p]
  • [p]New songs, bringing the level count to 27! Some may have incomplete visuals to be updated after their release.[/p]
  • [p]A new block to beat?![/p]
  • [p]Costumes to dress up your Cranky however you want.[/p]
  • [p]Level editor improvements, with an overhauled UI option coming later.[/p]
  • [p]Bugfixes! And new bugs to fix, most likely.[/p]
  • [p]Secrets.....[/p]
[p]While this won't put us at our full scope just yet, we're itching to get these new features into your hands as soon as possible. [/p]
Thank you all for playing Beatblock! See you soon in Early Access...
Beatblock Demo update 0.5.0 now available!

The latest update for the Beatblock demo is now available to download!
Changelog:

Let us know what you think of this update!

Final demo update + early access announcement!

Hiya! It's been awhile and we're back with our final update to the demo.

Before the new stuff...
EARLY ACCESS LAUNCH LATER THIS YEAR!
We'll be locking in and focusing on getting Beatblock ready for an early access launch later in 2025! That means no more plans to add new content to the demo (although with the editor, you may not have a problem with that.) With that being said, the EA release will include:
  • New songs (both licensed and original)
  • New features (different modes of play, different note types, etc.)
  • New editor functions
  • UI revamps
  • canky bebloc
We hope you continue to enjoy the demo, and appreciate your patience as we continue development.

With that out of the way...
WHAT'S NEW IN THE DEMO?
• Added Marathon Mode- test your endurance by playing through all the demo levels! All of them. Every single one. Marathon Mode is unlocked by getting an A rank or higher on the default difficulty of every demo level.
  • Maybe there's a reward for doing well?...
  • Lots of bugfixes, as detailed below.
the bugfix heap
• The editor now prevents the user from placing more than one "play song" and "show results" event per level. If there are multiple play song events in an existing level, the level will need to be updated to only use one.
  • Tweaked hitbox on Inverse notes slightly to better match their visual appearance
  • Fixed events on or before beat 0 not initializing properly.
  • Fixed retrying levels via the Results screen not applying level modifiers.
  • Prevented event placement while holding down Alt in the editor.
  • Fixed Mouse position being incorrect for non-standard display resolutions.
  • Fixed hold start angle mismatch when starting between frames.
  • Hold Leniency will now increase when playing back a level at less than 1x Speed.
  • Added more help markers to level properties (ctrl+i) menu.
  • Added a warning to the "Play Sound" event clarifying that it is not meant to be used for music playback.
  • Fixed hidden child decos not reappearing in their correct positions when unhidden.
  • Fixed a crash when hitting "Retry" after playing a level with game speed not set to 1.
  • Fixed some events rendering as black squares when placed near certain notes with taps.
  • Fixed flash easables bypassing eyestrain reduction and saturation accessibility options.

Next Fest approacheth...

Next Fest is upon us once again, and we arrive with gifts!
And by gifts we mean a patch adding bugfixes, easy/hard variants for several demo levels, and some QoL changes.

Here's the rundown:
FEATURES
• Reworked the level format to allow for multiple difficulties stored in a single level
  • Added an easier difficulty to ILOVEYOU.vbs and lawrence
  • Added a harder difficulty to so stressed!
  • Added the ability to unpause
  • Added "Toggle particles" event
  • Added "Play sound" event
  • Added cs.objectRotation easable
  • Window positions are now saved between editor sessions. To reset your windows to default, press CTRL+R
FIXES
• Fixed expanded HUD accuracy display
  • The editor no longer crashes when trying to load a level with a non-existent event
  • Fixed system cursor not hiding when using a custom cursor
  • System cursor now re-appears when the game is paused
  • Fixed outline event not working correctly with a color index over 3
  • Fixed abnormally long level loading times sometimes causing levels to break
  • Alphabetized editor palette

Additionally, we're currently working on getting our Mac and Linux compatibility visible again for our demo, so we appreciate your patience! We're still compatible with all three major OSes (Windows, Mac, Linux) and if you attempt to download the demo it'll give you the right version.
Thank you very much for playing Beatblock! More news tomorrow... :0
(if you're a musician or producer, get ready!)
