Building the Core Systems Part 1: Resource Chains

Howdy, partners!

The frontier might look like endless open land, but underneath all that dust and pine is a complex, living system slowly turning our little settlement into a thriving community. In today’s devlog, we’re pulling back the curtain on one of the biggest pillars of Wild West Pioneers: resource chains - the unsung heroes behind every bite, brick, and barrel.
RESOURCE CHAINS: From Wilderness to Table
Out here, nothing comes easy. There’s no magic pantry or bottomless warehouse. Every single thing - whether it’s a sausage or a stack of lumber - has to be hunted, crafted, hauled, and delivered. And that’s where our resource chain system comes in.

Let’s look at food, for example.

To keep your settlers fed, here’s what needs to happen:

 • Hunt – Assign hunters near game-rich areas to gather raw meat.
 • Process it at the Butcher – Meat comes in, tasty sausages come out.
 • Store and transport – Warehouse workers move goods between buildings.
 • Distribute through the Store – Only then can your settlers grab a bite.

But here’s the twist: hunters and butchers need tools and supplies, too. Nothing exists in isolation. It’s all about location, efficiency, and flow.

If you want your settlement to grow strong, you’ll need to ask yourself:

 • Where are your raw materials coming from?
 • What buildings are part of the chain?
 • Are your warehouses and stores close enough to be effective?
 • Do your workers have the gear they need to do their jobs?

These aren't just nice-to-know details - they’re the core logistical puzzles that shape your entire town. Every decision you make creates ripple effects.

Our goal with resource chains is to give you meaningful complexity. We want you to feel the reward of watching your systems click into place - from the ground up. When everything runs like clockwork, your settlers are happy, your town is humming, and the wild frontier starts to feel a bit more like home.

But it’s a delicate balance. One weak link - a distant warehouse, a tool shortage, or a dry well - can bring everything to a standstill. Solving those problems as your settlement grows is part of the fun. It’s what makes the world feel alive.

And that’s just food. Wood, water, tools, clothing, construction materials - each has its own web of dependencies. Managing them all? That’s the real challenge for a pioneer.

Until next time,
Your friends at Wild West Pioneers

Declaration of Independence: Frontier Edition

Hey Settlers,

Happy 4th of July! Whether you're watching fireworks, flipping burgers, or just kicking back on the porch, we hope you're soaking in the summer and feeling that good ol’ spark of freedom.

We know there’s no in-game update today - but that doesn’t mean we wanted to let the day pass without saying anything. Because July 4th isn’t just about history books and parades - it’s about that wild, stubborn spirit that built this country. And honestly? It’s the same spirit that lives in every corner of Wild West Pioneers.
The Fire Still Burns
Back in 1776, a bunch of folks signed a declaration that said, “We’re gonna do things our own way.” That took guts. They weren’t guaranteed safety or success - they just believed something better was possible, and they chased it.

If that doesn’t sound like life on the frontier, we don’t know what does.

Every time you put up a cabin, brave the unknown, or lend a hand to a fellow settler, you’re channeling that same fire. And whether you're running solo in-game or spending today surrounded by friends and family, we hope you can feel a little bit of that same energy riding with you.
Why the Frontier Still Matters
This game? It’s not about being perfect. It’s about showing up anyway. Messy, muddy, and maybe a little sunburned - but ready to build something real. It’s about community. Resilience. Freedom. The kind that doesn’t wait for permission.

That’s the frontier. That’s the heart of Wild West Pioneers. And that’s what makes this whole thing special.
From All of Us at Frontier Forge
Thank you.
For showing up.
For sharing your ideas, your stories, and your passion.
For helping us turn a dusty little game world into something bigger than any of us imagined.
Happy Independence Day
Wherever you are and however you're celebrating, we hope today brings you something good. A laugh. A spark. A moment of peace. A little reminder that freedom - real freedom - starts with bold choices and brave hearts.

Stay safe, ride true, and remember:

The frontier belongs to the bold.

A Day in the Life: Settling the Frontier

Howdy!

Today let’s walk you through a “day in the life” of a new settlement in Wild West Pioneers. You’ll go through moments like this a lot — starting fresh, figuring things out one step at a time.
Morning – The First Step
The wagons come to a stop just after sunrise. It’s quiet. No buildings, no roads - just a clearing near the river and a long to-do list.

The first priority? Shelter. We don’t have proper buildings yet, so we pitch makeshift tents. It’s not much, but it’ll keep the worst of the cold off our backs for the night.

Someone starts chopping wood while another sets up a basic stockpile. Every resource feels important right now, and it is. In the early game, even one missed harvest or cold snap can snowball fast. There’s no safety net out here.
Midday – Building Foundations
By noon, we’ve cleared just enough space to place our first real structure: the Town Hall. It’s the center of everything - assigning jobs, setting priorities, making decisions.

Right away, we need to think about roles. Who’s going to chop wood? Who’s watching for danger? Who’s on cooking duty? You’ll be juggling these priorities constantly, especially with limited hands early on. Everyone’s wearing multiple hats whether they like it or not.

It’s one of our favorite parts of the game - watching your settlers slowly form a working community from nothing.
Afternoon – Food is Survival
By the afternoon, hunger starts kicking in. We send someone to hunt animals.

Back at camp, someone’s managed to get a fire going. We cook up some basic meals. Not exactly fine dining, but it keeps everyone going.

Food is one of those systems that seems simple at first, but gets complex fast. You’ll be hunting, farming, preserving.
Evening – A Brief Moment of Peace
As the sun goes down, the fire crackles and the camp feels a little less empty. People gather around, share a few words, maybe even laugh a little.

It’s a rare moment of calm. Nobody got sick, the tent didn’t collapse, and you actually ate something warm - that makes it all worth it. It was a successful day.

That’s just one day - and every settlement tells a different story.

Wild West Immersion: How Wild West Pioneers Captures the Pioneer Spirit

Howdy folks!

Today, we’re taking a closer look at something that’s been the crucial part of our development since day one: the atmosphere, the setting, and the real-world history that inspired us to create the game.

When we first started designing Wild West Pioneers, we didn’t just want to create another city-builder. We wanted something that felt like the Wild West. Especially the dust in the air, danger behind every corner, and the thrill of carving out a life in the unknown.

The game is set during the gold rush, in a rugged land filled with promise and peril. You play as a governor of a frontier settlement, but this isn’t just about putting up buildings. It’s about facing the same kinds of challenges real pioneers dealt with: food shortages, weather extremes, wild animals, outlaw raids, and negotiating with people who already called this land home.

We’ve drawn a lot from real 19th-century frontier life - not just the movie version of their lives. You’ll see traces of actual events and cultures that shaped the era. We wanted to reflect the diversity and conflict of the time. Life on the frontier meant mixing cultures, competing claims, and constant change. There’s a real human story behind every corner of your town - families arriving with nothing, veterans haunted by past wars, Native leaders trying to navigate the changing world. It’s all about giving the player a meaningful world to live in.

Wild West Pioneers is not about the shootouts, outlaws and gold mines. It’s about those quiet victories as well, such as seeing your dusty camp slowly turn into a thriving settlement.

It’s a game about choices and consequences in a wild and unpredictable world.

Until next time!

The Key To Success

Hello Guv‘nor

Settling down in a new country is always challenging. Even more so as a pioneer in the American frontier in the 19th century.
In order to not only get by, but thrive in this challenging environment, the settlers have to adapt, cooperate and persevere. It is this resilience that laid the foundation to the Western expansion of America and proved that a sense of community and sheer determination can conquer even the toughest challenges.

Wild West Pioneers is trying to capture this spirit when it puts you in charge of building up multiple settlements and taking care of the people’s needs. With families living miles away from other towns, sometimes literally in the middle of nowhere, trade and medical care are nearly impossible.

So, you and your pioneers need to become self-sufficient. A vital part of this is the smart planning of what we call production lines. Because it is not enough to place a hunting lodge near a forest with game, sit back and hope for the best.

If everybody in the settlement is to thrive and benefit from the hard work that the hunters put in, you need to make sure that the production or value chain is optimized. Meaning that the maximum distance between the hunting lodge, the butcher and the warehouse is not too big. Or between the lumberjacks, the lumber mill and the storage facilities.

You can compensate for bigger distances with paths and roads, on which the transport of products or resources will be significantly faster.

In the end you build your towns how you see fit, though. We will not hold you back.
But if people have to walk too long before they can reach their workplace or need to cross half the map to get some food from the store, they might consider relocating to a place, where they feel better taken care of.

So, when you start building, think not only of your bank balance, but also about the happiness of the settlers who decide to trust you with their livelihood.
Keep in mind, that without them, you are governing ghost towns…

Until next time!
