Major Update Coming for Zombies v. Vampires Fest Next Week!

New Zombies, Missions, and Demo Returns!


We’re joining Steam's Zombie vs Vampires Fest next week, and cooked up a major update to celebrate. Prepare for a new zombie wave-based mission, a new progressive difficulty mission, checkpoints for single player mode, and free weapon skin rewards for completing in-game missions.

The free demo will also return to Steam during the Zombies event, from May 26th to June 2nd.
Demo players will be able to play the Zone 1 story mission solo, or in co-op with other demo or early access players, so it's a great opportunity for friends to try out Deadzone!

  • Settings have reset to support optimal settings specific to Steam Deck.
  • Dev Note - Steam Deck settings were falling back to PC configurations. This has been addressed and settings reset only for Steam Deck users to support these.

  • Split side missions into Specialty and Challenge missions.
  • Challenge missions on Nightmare now have more unique and challenging bot spawns.
  • Glass Cannon
    • Removed the partial healing and shield modifier.
    • Removed Shield damage spillover protection.
    • Enemies now deal 100% more damage to the player.

  • Renamed Shockwave to High Voltage.
  • Reduced Snowdrift nearby enemy damage to 25%, reduced overall Cryo damage to 20%.

  • Increased bonus damage duration on Orbital Infusion to 8 seconds.

    • Reduced freeze shot radius by 15%.

    • Reduced AOE of their void explosion by 30%.

    • Reduced health by 50%.
    • Healing drones are limited to only 1 in a room in Adventure, Normal, and Hard difficulties.
  • Fire Mindless
    • Removed DOT fire damage.
  • Radiation Exploder
    • Removed radiation debuff.
  • Lightning Axe
    • Adjusted teleport so it will not teleport within certain distances, based on difficulty.

  • Added aim assist settings for Off/Limited/On.
  • Adjusted the exit doors to an encounter to auto open at 30 seconds instead of 10 if loot orbs are not taken.

  • Fixed an issue where the player could get a permanent black screen overlay if they jumped into death pits multiple times.
  • Fixed an issue where players in co-op would sometimes spawn underneath the Safe Room or in the next encounter, softlocking the run.
  • Fixed an issue where Lightning Axe bots could teleport when frozen.
  • Fixed an issue where bots could jump while frozen.
  • Fixed an issue where Nyxis Root was invisible to clients.
  • Fixed an issue where Phalanx could damage players at incorrect times after being staggered or frozen.
  • Fixed an issue where Headhunter would sometimes not refund a bullet when you scored a headshot.
  • Fixed an issue where damage from Ignite was not being affected by certain items that boosted proc damage.
  • Fixed damage bonus from Health Perk Child 3 not properly scaling with overhealing amount.
  • Fixed an issue where item effect UI for Alien's Hand Super Item would not update correctly when you swapped weapons or picked up a new weapon.
  • Fixed an issue where Alien's Hand would not correctly cap damage boost to 50%.
  • Fixed an issue where Steroid Tablets Super Item would not display its current damage boost in the UI on being equipped, and would only do so after taking damage/being healed.
  • Fixed an issue where Nitroglycerin Power Super Item would not correctly display the magnitude of its damage boost after you reload.
  • Fixed a bug where Hot Sauce Super Item would not display its current damage boost in the UI on being equipped, and would only do so after taking damage/being healed.
  • Fixed Recycled Plastic Super Item not clearing its damage boost when you picked up a new weapon.
  • Fixed Boomerang Super Item not refunding shots that hit doors.
  • Fixed Probability Cube and Hammer of the Artisan's Forge items not applying their effects to weapons picked up after the item was equipped on the joining client in co-op.
  • Fixed Plastic Wand, Tourniquet, and Barbed Grenade items not working for the joining client in co-op.
  • Fixed an issue where the Zone 2 teleporter did not show its exiting VFX.
  • Fixed several collision issues in the Starting Ship, Zone 1, and Zone 2.

  • Fixed an issue where in-game music would be muffled if you quit to the main menu, went to the starting ship, then started a level without ever pausing.

- Fixed an issue where Nyxis' Root attack could cause players to become permanently rooted.

- Fixed an issue where players would not respawn with their ammo replenished.
- Fixed an issue with thumb stick drift causing thrashing between gamepad and gamepad cursor mode.

Glass Cannon Mission
- Added Shield Break Prevention.

Headhunter Mission
- Non-Weakpoint hits now do reduced damage, and no longer do self-damage.

Affixes
- Damage boosts from Scrap Damage affix is capped at 10%.

- Fixed a soft lock in Zone 2 that would occur when the Spawner bots would die the moment they were finishing fabricating a new bot.
- Fixed an issue where spam clicking while a progressive reload was active would cause your weapon to play a blend out animation over and over again instead of fully terminating the reload.
- Fixed an issue where the Mesmerizer FX would also show on other co-op player's HUDs.
- Fixed an issue where progressive reloads could be terminated early by spam clicking immediately after starting a reload.
- Fixed an issue where inviting platform friends to a custom lobby would show up as "Player Name."
- Fixed an issue where the gamma settings would not save after exiting and relaunching the game.
- Fixed an issue with Steam Deck where the thumbstick drift would cause players to stay in cursor mode.
- Fixed an issue where waiting notification would always read "waiting to travel to zone 1" in co-op.
- Fixed an issue where Zone Progress would sometimes not update properly.

Added Offline Single Player Mode, a New Mission, and More

[h2]Added Offline Single Player Mode[/h2]

Players can now enjoy Deadzone's single-player mode offline, without an internet connection! This was our top requested feature, and the #1 priority for our team to deliver this week. We really wanted to address this for the community ASAP, and hope you can enjoy the improved experience this weekend!

Note: This is a large change for our back-end systems. We expect performance to be stable after internal testing, but will monitor the patch to make sure it acts as expected. Co-op mode will also still require an online connection, so players can share the same game experience in real time.

[h2]Added a new mission, Uniform Chaos II[/h2]

In this mission, each room randomly spawns a horde of the same type of enemies to defeat. This approach builds on the Uniform Chaos I mission, and offers an even deeper level of enemy variety and challenge for experienced players. This mission can be found in Zone 2, we hope you enjoy it!

Bots
- Replaced the Laser Crawler in Headhunter Mission with Nyxis.

Weapons
- Dual SMGS: Reduced Spread by 20%, and doubled proc rate

General Gameplay

- Updated the respawn system in co-op mode
- When a player dies in co-op, they will now respawn at the exit doors.
- Implemented several safety checks to ensure players will respawn after an encounter.
- Exit doors will now automatically open after 10 seconds.

- Players can only quick melee/lunge once while in the air.
- Added a new description tag for Experimental weapons.
- Lowered the sounds for crit hit and headshots.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
- Fixed more soft lock issues with Zone 2.
- Fixed an issue where lightning barrels would instantly kill players in the Headhunter mission.
- Fixed an issue where when player took self-damage or damage from DOTs, hit feedback indicators would always be oriented towards the origin.
- Fixed an issue where joining players in coop would see Singularity disappear slightly before it had actually expired.
- Fixed an issue where when using the Dual SMGs, the player's shoulders would clip through their body.
- Fixed an issue where pet bots would not respawn in co-op after their owner respawned.
- Fixed an issue where in co-op, if a player with ammo enhancements drops a weapon, the weapon will retain its ammo stack from the original owner.
- Fixed an issue where the Zone 1 boss could be meleed while its shield was up.
- Fixed an issue where reloads would not be paused if the player was frozen.
- Fixed an issue where bosses would not properly focus players as their main priority.
- Fixed an issue where the Elemental Siege Construct's projectile was disappearing prematurely.
- Fixed an issue where Spider bots had some trouble attacking players on top of boxes.

We wanted to get something special out for everyone to enjoy this weekend, good luck and have fun! We're all tired after a long week (we've pushed a patch or two every day since the launch), but it's been worth it and so exciting to see the game growing to nearly 100,000 players so quickly.
