Road Truckers: New Beginning News

A ton of new screenshots + our approach to DLSS

[p]Hey everyone!

Through the development the game has improved visually so far that we decided to completely replace the screenshots on Steam. All of them showcase the game in its current visuals. Our goal is to have the world dense and varied, with beautiful lighting. View the gallery on the game’s page to see all of them, here are just a couple of highlights.

[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We were also super happy to see TeleMenace’s overview of Road Truckers: New Beginning on his YouTube channel. [/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]Finally, all the commotion about DLSS 5 is also a good opportunity to talk about our approach to optimization and the use of upscalers. [/p][p][/p][p]Long story short: we don’t have DLSS implemented yet. We will add DLSS, but only after we complete our optimization. Our goal is to have the game run well natively, and then add upscaling as an option to make it even smoother if you choose so. It’s a great technology, but we want to use it as a form of extra support and not a crutch. We’re putting a lot of effort into Road Truckers: New Beginning, and you will be able to test it before buying. Before that happens, stay in touch. Soon we’ll show you some dangerous paths through the wild.

If you like seeing our progress, consider following the project and wishlisting Road Truckers: New Beginning. Cheers![/p][p]Michal from Road Studio [/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Big Update! See how the game grew and took shape

[p]Hey everyone![/p][p][/p][p]This is another BIG dev update. The game’s evolving and… Well, just look below. So many features from our "to do" list are not ticked off - and it feels very satisfying.[/p]
August 2025 vs February 2026
[p] Take a look at the same location, August 2025 vs February 2026. We’ve been building our world and we’re not done yet! We want to deliver a beautiful, epic & expansive experience. [/p][p][/p]
AI / Mirrors - rendering methods test
[p]One of the key factors of the game feeling right are mirrors. We are testing a couple of rendering methods to find the one that looks best and also isn’t too heavy on your hardware. It’s likely we’ll simply give you a choice which to use. Each has its advantages (such as computing power use) and disadvantages (more or less detailed look). In the gif below, each cut shows a different rendering method. [/p]

[p]At the same time, our world starts being more and more alive thanks to NPC car AI, which we’ve been improving and expanding. If you remember Alaskan Road Truckers, you’ll understand why AI has been very important to us in New Beginning. After we complete some things left to do, we'll show you how AI acts in different situations.[/p][p][/p]
Collectibles
[p][/p][p]We now have various collectibles - notes, books etc. - which you can pick up to learn more about the world, and also get some extra XP. [/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Tutorials
[p][/p][p]Road Truckers: New Beginning is a big and complex game, so it’s important that we ease you into our mechanics. We’ve been working on a tutorial and iterating it based on feedback. Since we have quests in this one, we use a couple of them to explain mechanics such as purchasing broken parts and repairing them before installing. [/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p]Also we’ve been adding more types of cargo, more NPCs, quests, jobs, locations… Well, we’re getting closer to being ready to let you try it yourselves.
[/p][p][/p][p]Thanks for sticking with us, and see you on the road! Add Road Truckers: New Beginning to your wishlist to not miss our BETA and DEMO. [/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p]

Happy trucking Holidays and a fantastic New Year!

[p]Truckers, it’s this time of year again. A bit cold, a bit rushed in preparations, a bit whimsical. Time to whip up some hot chocolate, put on that Holiday romance movie you’ve watched at least 10 times already and cuddle your cat. Or a dog. Or a miniature truck model, who are we to judge?[/p][p][/p][p]Everyone, have a very merry Christmas/Holidays and a happy trucking New Year! May it be your best one yet.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]See you soon![/p]

Xmas Devlog: the roads behind and ahead in a big, B I G world

[p]Hi there, Merry Xmas, and a Happy New Year!
[/p][p]What a year that's been. As a team, we've brought Road Truckers from a very early alpha to quite near beta. We now have the full main story mode, all trucks and customization parts we wanted, tons of locations that look, dare I say, quite well. Also: wheel support, controller support...
[/p][p]Still, there are a couple of things to finish up. We need to add mouse steering, window leaning and mirrors, and finish up the remaining parts of the world. There's also some sound work and optimization passes, but all in all, we're closer and closer to tying everything up, so far on schedule.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Meanwhile, we've been supporting – as widely as we possibly can – our first game, Alaskan Road Truckers, which became our learning experience that made Road Truckers: New Beginning possible.
[/p][p]Recently, when asked by players, we measured and compared the maps, and it seems that Road Truckers: New Beginning's map area is around 3x larger than Alaskan's. You might wonder how that's possible if Alaskan was technically demanding with its current size. The answer is: it was possible because the map size and general topology were literally the first things we took care of. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]When making our first game, we started by making one area and then kept adding and adding – frankly, without being sure how big the map should be or how much the engine can handle. That's why it's now a challenge to optimize it, and that's why we want Road Truckers to be the result of our learning experience.
[/p][p][/p][p]Additionally, in Road Truckers: New Beginning, we split the map into 2 parts: the hub area and the main exploration map, which is 4x larger. It's because we wanted to be able to add new and varied regions without the need to seamlessly connect them to the existing world of the hub area. [/p][p][/p][p]So yes, in theory, we can add the entire Alaska later, as a region you visit after a longer travel (represented as a loading screen). The game can potentially become the platform to explore all kinds of places, of course, if it's successful enough for this endeavor (I hope it will be!).[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Also, in Road Truckers: New Beginning, the hub area will be the demo area, and it's roughly 2/3 of the size of the Alaskan map. This makes the distances feel much more natural, and there is no need for scaling a mile (or a kilometer, if that's the unit of your choice) so drastically as in Alaskan. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]wOf course, this comes with a challenge of making these large areas interesting and varied enough, but that's why the fact we set the game in a fictional country comes into play. We'll have a lot of interesting locations inspired by many, many, many different places. Not being tied to a real place lets us make "the best of" mixtape of locations. At least that's the idea![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Right now, we're preparing for a beta, which you will be able to test. Later, there will be a demo version. And finally, the full game. It's very exciting to see this project come together so fast, and without too many hurdles. At the same time, we're planning the next updates for Alaskan Road Truckers – hopefully some pleasant surprises.
[/p][p]Thank you for being with us. Have a wonderful New Year, and see you soon – in your very own truck, on the many roads of Vale Rico.[/p]
