Dev Blog 2: Difficulties, Rogue-lite, Demo...

Hey again!
Yep, I’m already back—it’s only been a few days since the last Dev Blog, but there’s a lot I want to share with you. So, let’s jump right in!

Difficulty System

In Sea of Dreams Survivors, you have full control over how challenging you want the game to be. Choose between Easy, Normal, Heroic, and Legendary difficulties. Once you complete a level, an indicator shows which difficulty you’ve beaten it on—super helpful if you’re going for that sweet 100% completion!

Here’s what each difficulty brings to the table:

 • Easy – Crush your enemies with minimal resistance.
 • Normal – A balanced challenge with fair, intense battles.
 • Heroic – A real test of skill—victory isn’t guaranteed!
 • Legendary – Only the brave (or foolish) dare to try…

Difficulty impacts things like enemy spawn rate, damage taken and dealt, knockback, and the number of enemies on screen.

Rogue-lite Mechanics

Sea of Dreams Survivors isn’t just about moment-to-moment action—it’s got progression outside of the battlefield too.

Whether you win or lose a level, you’ll earn XP. Leveling up grants Upgrade Points, new weapons, and fresh perks. Sometimes, if you're stuck on a level, farming just a bit of XP can unlock the edge you need to push forward.

Upgrade Points can be spent in the Upgrade Menu, letting you unlock global perks across different tiers. These upgrades are permanent boosts that apply at the start of each game—things like more damage, extra health, or a stronger shield. No need to find them mid-run. Just equip and go!

Gameplay Tweaks & Visual Updates

Since the initial reveal, Sea of Dreams Survivors has seen a lot of changes—and today, I’m excited to share a new gameplay screenshot highlighting some of them!

One of the most noticeable improvements is the slightly zoomed-out camera. This change boosts overall visibility, making it easier to spot incoming enemy waves and enjoy the action-packed chaos on screen.

To match this wider view, the game assets have been adjusted to a lower resolution. Since fine details aren’t as visible anymore, this shift adds a stylized, pixel-art flair that blends retro charm with a modern feel. It’s all about clarity, style, and creating a better gameplay experience!

Demo Incoming!

Big shoutout to Nosteru in the comments of the last Dev Blog for the idea—thanks again, and don’t be shy to leave your thoughts too!

I’m excited to officially announce that a free demo of Sea of Dreams Survivors is on the way, and it’s coming to Steam this April!

The demo will be a compact but feature-rich taste of the game, including:

 • 2 playable levels
 • 7 ranks
 • 6 perks
 • 13 unique weapons
 • 2 characters
 • 14 enemy types

Can’t wait to hear what you all think. Stay tuned—it’s almost here!

Dev Blog 1: Weapons

Welcome to the First Dev Blog!

First off, a huge thank you to everyone who supported me during the reveal! In today’s crowded world of game development, it’s not easy to carve out your own space. Even if the wishlist numbers might seem small compared to bigger studios, for me, as a solo indie dev, it’s a meaningful and encouraging step forward.

In this first dev blog, I’m diving into one of the core pillars of the game: the weapon system.

“I Need a Weapon,” You Say?

In Sea of Dreams Survivors, combat isn’t like your typical survivor-style game. The focus is heavily on ranged attacks and projectiles. Melee weapons are rare, and when they do appear, they're usually designed to push enemies back or support your ranged playstyle.

As you play, you’ll unlock new weapons and shape your build by leveling up. Defeating enemies earns you Crystal XP, and with each level-up, you’ll face a strategic decision: unlock a new weapon, upgrade one you already have, or do the same with a perk. (Or if you’re feeling chaotic, skip the upgrade entirely and push forward as-is.)

Each weapon can be upgraded up to five times—improving efficiency, adding projectiles, or even altering gameplay mechanics. The idea is to find your playstyle and build wild synergies to help you survive the relentless horrors of The Other World.
Arsenal Overview
At launch, you’ll have access to over 21 unique weapons with a total of 105 upgrades. Here's a sneak peek at a few of them:

🧤 The Repulsor
A high-tech lifesaver in The Other World. Use it to knock back enemies, maintain your distance, and strike precisely. It’s a must-have when things get overwhelming.

🔥 Shotgun
One shot is all it takes to turn enemies into a shower of blood and gore. When the horde closes in, this brutal weapon tears through crowds like a hot knife through... well, monsters. 💀💥

🔥 The Flamethrower
Engulf your enemies in flames and leave a trail of ashes behind. This weapon excels at clearing swarms and lighting up the darkness with fiery destruction.

That’s all for now! Thanks for reading, and if you haven’t already, check out Sea of Dreams Survivors on Steam and add it to your wishlist:
