The People Demo Update is here!

[p]Hello everyone,
[/p][p]First off, a huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who played the High Above demo and shared your thoughts and suggestions with me. Your feedback has been incredibly helpful. I’ve squashed bugs, smoothed out issues, and implemented several of your ideas. All the feedback has been great and I truly appreciate your support!
[/p][p]Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a major new feature: characters. I wanted the scenes you create to feel a bit more alive and perhaps a bit more personal. With this update, you will see visitors arriving on your rooftops with unique wishes for you to fulfill. Your goal? Make them happy through thoughtful building and decorating. Let’s dive into the details of what’s new.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Characters & Puzzle Mechanics[/p][p]
This update introduces a whole new gameplay layer to High Above. You will now see rooftop visitors popping over, each with their own personality, preferences, and little quirks. These characters aren’t just decorative; they bring a light layer of puzzle mechanics to your rooftop world.[/p][p][/p][p]Each visitor arrives with a wishlist of items and experiences they hope to find. For example, Grandma might crave a quiet reading nook with books and a comfy chair, while another character might dream of stargazing with a telescope or soaking in a jacuzzi. Your job is to interpret their desires and place the right props to meet their needs. [/p][p][/p][carousel][/carousel][p]Characters can be placed standing or seated, on sofas, chairs, or wherever feels right for your rooftop vibe. As you decorate and fulfill their requests, you’ll see their satisfaction level rise, giving you feedback on how well you’re tuning into their wishes.[/p][p][/p][p]Completing tasks earns you rewards. For now, these are familiar favorites like the telescope, jacuzzi, and laptop, but I will add new unlockables in future updates. Think of it as a gentle loop of curiosity, creativity, and cozy progression.[/p][p][/p][p]Apart from introducing characters, I’ve also added some camera and quality-of-life improvements. [/p][p][/p][p]Camera Improvements[/p][p]This update also introduces a new Perspective Camera Mode and a Camera Reset feature to help you navigate your rooftops more smoothly.[/p][p]
Bug Fixes and Visual Tweaks[/p][p]I’ve addressed minor bugs, resolved texture clipping issues, and adjusted prop sizes and proportions for a more polished look.[/p][p]
You can download the High Above People Update right now! And as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop a comment here or join the conversation on the High Above Discord. It’s also the place to share what you created, and honestly, the things that people have created are amazing. So come on down, hang out, and show what you’ve made. [/p][p][/p][p]Until next time,[/p][p][/p][p]Alex[/p][p]

High Above Playtest Incoming. Register to play!

Hello everyone,

I am happy to say that after months and months of work, High Above is getting ready to be played by you. But before I release the demo to the public, I thought that it might be a good idea to run a private playtest where I can test the upcoming demo with a smaller number of people. I want them to play it, poke it, see if the game plays well, makes sense, and most importantly, is fun!

Since you are one of the first people who followed High Above, it would be an absolute pleasure and honour to have you play the game first. To join the download queue and play the High Above playtest as soon as it’s available, just click the "Request Access" button on the game’s main Steam page.

The playtest will feature the Mediterranean-inspired rooftop theme. Just think of chilling out in Italian villages and small towns on a summer’s day.

If you play the closed playtest demo, it would be fantastic if you could share your feedback with me, either through the in-game survey or on our official Discord. And of course, share your creations on our Discord too! Can’t wait to see the rooftop retreats you’ll make.

So hit that Request Access button, download High Above when you get a notification from Steam, join our Discord, and share your thoughts and creations! Can’t wait to see what you will all build!

Until next time,

Alex

High Above Skylog Number 2: Birds, Rain, Sounds, and More

Hello everyone,

It’s been a little while since my last dev update, so I wanted to share what I’ve been working on recently for High Above. A number of small, quiet changes have been coming together - little touches that help the game feel more alive, relaxing, and personal.

Please keep in mind that many of these additions are still being tested and refined. Some things may change slightly as I polish them further. But with that said, here’s a look at what’s new!

New Objects & Customization

I’ve added a handful of new objects to help you shape your rooftop retreat in more unique ways. One of them is placeable rocks, which can now be added to your environment for an extra natural touch. I’ve also added two new chimneys and two lighthouses, I'm hoping to make the lighthouses even more versatile soon, allowing for decorative placement on them as well. There are now more roof materials and color swatches too, giving you extra options to personalize your space. And I’ve added different types of balconies and windows so you can really make your building your own.

Small Creatures, Big Atmosphere

I'm also exploring simple animations and ambient effects to bring the world to life. When plants are placed together, you might see butterflies or fireflies flutter into view. I thought that this small detail might add a bit of magic to the game. I’m also playing around with other ways to bring life to the game, such as adding birds, and how I can give you more ways of interacting with them.

Time & Weather

I’ve been improving the time-of-day system, and added a time slider to move between sunrise, golden hour, night, and more to allow you pick the time that best suits your scene. And for those rainy-day moods, I’ve added a rain toggle. Want a quiet, stormy evening? Or a bright, sunny morning? It’ll be all for you to decide. Or if you like just going with the flow, you can do that too and see where the day, night, and weather takes you.

Thank you again for all the support so far, it really means a lot. I can’t wait to share more soon (and get the demo into your hands!).

Until next time,

Alex

A Heartfelt Thank You

Hello everyone,

We just wanted to take a quick moment to say - thank you. Since High Above was revealed during the Future Games Show, I’ve been overwhelmed by the excitement for the game.

And here’s something amazing: I am happy to say that High Above passed over 10,000 wishlists on Steam!

I’ve been quietly building High Above for a while now, crafting rooftops and peaceful corners of the sky. I also have more good news, I am currently working on a demo so you can try the game too. Getting the demo into your hands will be another surreal moment for me, and I can’t wait to see what cozy rooftops you’ll create.

Once again, thank you for all your support. I am making High Above for you, so please share any feedback that you might have. And once it’s out, I hope it brings you a little bit of creative peace, too.

Talk to you soon,

Alex
